Book Optimization Techniques in Aircraft Configuration Design

Download or read book Optimization Techniques in Aircraft Configuration Design written by Brent Silver and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of optimization techniques to aircraft configuration design is discussed. Advantages and disadvantages of automated search methods are compared with those of parametric analysis methods. The formulation of the design problem for direct search methods using a normalization procedure is developed. Various direct methods are briefly described. Operational results using several of these methods are reported for aircraft configuration design problems. Gradient methods are found to give disappointing results when compared with certain non-gradient methods. Reasons are suggested for this behavior. The future promise of 'man-computer interactive design' is briefly described. (Author).

Book The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics written by F. Moukalled and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page 799 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook explores both the theoretical foundation of the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and its applications in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Readers will discover a thorough explanation of the FVM numerics and algorithms used for the simulation of incompressible and compressible fluid flows, along with a detailed examination of the components needed for the development of a collocated unstructured pressure-based CFD solver. Two particular CFD codes are explored. The first is uFVM, a three-dimensional unstructured pressure-based finite volume academic CFD code, implemented within Matlab. The second is OpenFOAM®, an open source framework used in the development of a range of CFD programs for the simulation of industrial scale flow problems. With over 220 figures, numerous examples and more than one hundred exercise on FVM numerics, programming, and applications, this textbook is suitable for use in an introductory course on the FVM, in an advanced course on numerics, and as a reference for CFD programmers and researchers.

Book excerpt: The high-level language of R is recognized as one of the mostpowerful and flexible statistical software environments, and israpidly becoming the standard setting for quantitative analysis, statistics and graphics. R provides free access to unrivalledcoverage and cutting-edge applications, enabling the user to applynumerous statistical methods ranging from simple regression to timeseries or multivariate analysis. Building on the success of the author’s bestsellingStatistics: An Introduction using R, The R Book ispacked with worked examples, providing an all inclusive guide to R,ideal for novice and more accomplished users alike. The bookassumes no background in statistics or computing and introduces theadvantages of the R environment, detailing its applications in awide range of disciplines. Provides the first comprehensive reference manual for the Rlanguage, including practical guidance and full coverage of thegraphics facilities. Introduces all the statistical models covered by R, beginningwith simple classical tests such as chi-square and t-test. Proceeds to examine more advance methods, from regression andanalysis of variance, through to generalized linear models, generalized mixed models, time series, spatial statistics, multivariate statistics and much more. The R Book is aimed at undergraduates, postgraduates andprofessionals in science, engineering and medicine. It is alsoideal for students and professionals in statistics, economics, geography and the social sciences.

Book Active Subspaces

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul G. Constantine
  • Publisher : SIAM
  • Release : 2015-03-17
  • ISBN : 1611973864
  • Pages : 105 pages

Download or read book Active Subspaces written by Paul G. Constantine and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2015-03-17 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientists and engineers use computer simulations to study relationships between a model's input parameters and its outputs. However, thorough parameter studies are challenging, if not impossible, when the simulation is expensive and the model has several inputs. To enable studies in these instances, the engineer may attempt to reduce the dimension of the model's input parameter space. Active subspaces are an emerging set of dimension reduction tools that identify important directions in the parameter space. This book describes techniques for discovering a model's active subspace and proposes methods for exploiting the reduced dimension to enable otherwise infeasible parameter studies. Readers will find new ideas for dimension reduction, easy-to-implement algorithms, and several examples of active subspaces in action.

Book Ocean Modeling in an Eddying Regime

Download or read book Ocean Modeling in an Eddying Regime written by Matthew W. Hecht and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 177. This monograph is the first to survey progress in realistic simulation in a strongly eddying regime made possible by recent increases in computational capability. Its contributors comprise the leading researchers in this important and constantly evolving field. Divided into three parts Oceanographic Processes and Regimes: Fundamental Questions Ocean Dynamics and State: From Regional to Global Scale, and Modeling at the Mesoscale: State of the Art and Future Directions The volume details important advances in physical oceanography based on eddy resolving ocean modeling. It captures the state of the art and discusses issues that ocean modelers must consider in order to effectively contribute to advancing current knowledge, from subtleties of the underlying fluid dynamical equations to meaningful comparison with oceanographic observations and leading-edge model development. It summarizes many of the important results which have emerged from ocean modeling in an eddying regime, for those interested broadly in the physical science. More technical topics are intended to address the concerns of those actively working in the field.
