Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thougtit that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 31 (thesis year 1986) a total of 11 ,480 theses titles trom 24 Canadian and 182 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base tor these titles reported will greatly enhance the value ot this important annual reterence work. While Volume 31 reports theses submitted in 1986, on occasion, certain univer sities do re port theses submitted in previousyears but not reported at the time.

Book Thin Film Physics And Devices Fundamental Mechanism Materials And Applications For Thin Films

Download or read book Thin Film Physics And Devices Fundamental Mechanism Materials And Applications For Thin Films written by Jianguo Zhu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-06-18 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin films have an extremely broad range of applications from electronics and optics to new materials and devices. Collaborative and multidisciplinary efforts from physicists, materials scientists, engineers and others have established and advanced a field with key pillars constituting (i) the synthesis and processing of thin films, (ii) the understanding of physical properties in relation to the nanometer scale, (iii) the design and fabrication of nano-devices or devices with thin film materials as building blocks, and (iv) the design and construction of novel tools for characterization of thin films.Against the backdrop of the increasingly interdisciplinary field, this book sets off to inform the basics of thin film physics and thin film devices. Readers are systematically introduced to the synthesis, processing and application of thin films; they will also study the formation of thin films, their structure and defects, and their various properties — mechanical, electrical, semiconducting, magnetic, and superconducting. With a primary focus on inorganic thin film materials, the book also ventures on organic materials such as self-assembled monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett films. This book will be effective as a teaching or reference material in the various disciplines, ranging from Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Science and Engineering, Electronic Materials and Components, Semiconductor Physics and Devices, to Applied Physics and more. The original Chinese publication has been instrumental in this purpose across many Chinese universities and colleges.

Book Thin Films Stresses and Mechanical Properties X

Download or read book Thin Films Stresses and Mechanical Properties X written by Sean G. Corcoran and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanical behavior of thin films is crucial for a wide variety of technologies. This behavior can critically influence the design, performance and reliability of thin-film structures used in every area of thin-film technology. However, the performance of these devices is often limited by the mechanical properties of both the films and the structures to which they are attached. The concepts, models and techniques developed for bulk materials often do not apply to small dimensions, and the mechanisms controlling behavior are not well defined. This book, first published in 2004, brings together an international group of researchers and students from industry, academia and national laboratories to address the mechanical behavior of thin films. Of particular interest are those studies that cut across length scales such as atomistic-to-nanometer or nanometer-to-submicron scale. Topics include: stress evolution; modeling stresses and film instability; deformation and adhesion; film fracture and fatigue; processing and structure; indentation testing; mechanical properties; properties and performance; and multilayers and nanolaminates.

Book Microfabricated Structures for the Measurement of Adhesion and Mechanical Properties of Polymer Films

Download or read book Microfabricated Structures for the Measurement of Adhesion and Mechanical Properties of Polymer Films written by Mark G. Allen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microfabricated test structures for the in-situ measurement of adhesion of thin films have been described. Young's modulus and residual tensile stress are determined from pre-peel measurement of the load-deflection behavior of suspended membranes. On systems of weak adhesion, a blister test using suspended membranes has been carried out. For systems of good adhesion, an island test structure has been developed allowing even thin films to be tested. Mechanical models for all three structures are described. Keywords: Polymer, Polyimide, Mechanical properties, Adhesion, Film, Microfabrication, Stress, Modulus, Blister test, Critical pressure, Peel.

Book Micromanufacturing and Nanotechnology

Download or read book Micromanufacturing and Nanotechnology written by Nitaigour P. Mahalik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micromanufacturing and Nanotechnology is an emerging technological infrastructure and process that involves manufacturing of products and systems at the micro and nano scale levels. Development of micro and nano scale products and systems are underway due to the reason that they are faster, accurate and less expensive. Moreover, the basic functional units of such systems possesses remarkable mechanical, electronic and chemical properties compared to the macro-scale counterparts. Since this infrastructure has already become the prefered choice for the design and development of next generation products and systems it is now necessary to disseminate the conceptual and practical phenomenological know-how in a broader context. This book incorporates a selection of research and development papers. Its scope is the history and background, underlynig design methodology, application domains and recent developments.

Book Thin Films Stresses and Mechanical Properties VIII

Download or read book Thin Films Stresses and Mechanical Properties VIII written by Richard Vinci and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of mechanical behavior is crucial for a wide variety of thin-film technologies such as semiconductor devices and packaging (including advanced interconnects, dielectrics and silicides), information storage media, hard coatings, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and biomedical devices. The influence of mechanical behavior is seen in thin-film performance and reliability, as well as morphology development during processing and service. The increased need for understanding of these properties has challenged modern materials science because concepts, models and techniques developed for bulk materials often do not apply in small dimensions. This book addresses key issues in the still growing field of thin-film mechanical behavior. Topics include: multilayer thin films; metallic thin films; epitaxy, deposition parameters, microstructure and stresses; thin films for applications in MEMS; polymer thin films; mechanical properties of amorphous and crystalline carbon; adhesion and fracture; reliability in microelectronics; and nanoindentation and advanced testing techniques.
