Book Application of Maps to the Salinas Monterey Urban Study Appendices B F and G

Download or read book Application of Maps to the Salinas Monterey Urban Study Appendices B F and G written by Thomas M. Walski and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This appendix presents the data contained in the MAPS headwater data base. It consists of the title for the headwater, the size of the drainage area above the reservoir site or diversion, and the flow at the reservoir site or diversion for each month of the design dry cycle. The flows are given in units of cubic feet per second (cfs) and million gallons per day (mgd). A value for the runoff rate in inches per year (in./yr) for the drainage area is also given. (Author).

Download or read book Application of MAPS to the Salinas Monterey Urban Study written by Thomas M. Walski and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MAPS (Methodology for Areawide Planning Studies) computer program, developed at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES), was used to evaluate the engineering aspects of alternative water supply plans for the Salinas-Monterey Urban Study conducted by the U.S. Army Engineer District, San Francisco. Using MAPS, the WES study team identified feasible water supply plans, developed staging for required facilities, and calculated capital and operation and maintenance costs for these facilities. The two countries in the study area, Santa Cruz and Monterey, were faced with different water supply problems, which were addressed using slightly different techniques, presented in the following paragraphs. In Santa Cruz County (except for the lower Pajaro area), water supply problems consisted chiefly of providing municipal water from an integrated system of surface and groundwater sources. MAPS simulations were used to identify potential diversions and reservoir sites to meet future needs. Source development was staged through the year 2020. In Monterey County, irrigation represents the principal use of water, which is derived almost solely from wells. The U.S. Geological Survey developed a finite element groundwater model to identify the effect of different water use rates on the groundwater resources. From this study, six measures for storing and transporting water were identified.

Book Water and Related Land Resource Systems

Download or read book Water and Related Land Resource Systems written by Y. Haimes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water and Related Land Resource Systems covers IFAC Symposium that aims to address resource problem, as well as methodologies and procedures for respective solutions. Consists of 60 chapters, the book is organized in sessions according to the technical program of the conference. The book first tackles multiobjective planning in water and land resources, which is followed by acquisition and analysis of surface water quality data. The next part covers hierarchical water resource planning and management models, while the succeeding part is about environmental and ecological aspects of water and land resources. The fifth session discusses the impact of energy development on water and land resources. Session VI covers modeling and systems identification problems in water resources, and Session VII covers acquisition and analysis of hydrologic data. The eighth session tackles ground water and its conjunctive use with surface water, while the next session talks about sedimentation and land management. The tenth session is about multiobjective planning in water and land resources. Predicting and forecasting models in water resources is the topic of Session XI, while Session XII discusses evaluation and calibration problem in water resource modeling. The closing chapter covers water and land issues in urban areas. Professionals whose work revolves around recourse management and researchers whose work is in line with natural resource will find great information in this book that will be relevant in their trade.

Book A Consolidated Bibliography on Land related Information Systems

Download or read book A Consolidated Bibliography on Land related Information Systems written by Alberta. Land-Related Information Services Group and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land-related information systems (LRIS) are collections of information which are gathered, stored, retrieved, analysed, and disseminated on the basis of spatial (i.e. geographic) criteria, and the systems (manual or computerized) which support them. Land-related information ranges from geodetic survey points, through administrative information pertaining to ownership, occupancy and value of land, to attribute information describing the land or activities and structures on it. The literature cited in this consolidated bibliography concerns the development and use of LRIS. All phases in the development of a system are covered from planning, through design, data collection, coding, storage and manipulation to analysis and display. Literature on theoretical foundations, development principles and quidelines, and aspects of LRIS development (e.g., economic or legal) also has been referenced, along with that containing descriptions of a variety of geographic-based information systems in many disciplines. In addition, the various areas of application of land-related information, particular needs and use are covered.
