Book excerpt: A study of infrared technology is presented as it is applicable to military training problems. It investigates particularly the specific problems of surveillance, the observation of nighttime amphibious training operations, and training in identification, interpretation, location, and detection of objects. Affirmative conclusions as to the feasibility of the application of infrared techniques to the training considerations of surveillance have been reached. It has also been concluded that television techniques are feasible for infrared image-forming in the range from 0.7 microns to 1.2 microns, as a means of infrared information distribution and display, and for image-forming at low intensity visible light levels.
