Book Application of Image Intensifier Technology to the Military Scientific Industrial Educational and Medical Communities

Download or read book Application of Image Intensifier Technology to the Military Scientific Industrial Educational and Medical Communities written by Patrick H. Orell and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research paper addresses the applications of Image Intensifier technology to the Military, Scientific, Industrial, Educational and Medical communities. Image intensifiers are components, that when incorporated into scopes, photographic cameras, television cameras and weapons delivery systems, allow the operator visibility into dark or low illumination areas. The technology has surfaced within the last twenty years and has been, until recently, confined to the military for applications. Image intensified devices are rapidily becoming more popular for various applications, yet many persons are not aware of their existence or potential. The paper is written in non-technical terms to describe the physical make--up of first and second generation Image Intensifiers and addresses the newly developed charged coupled devices and third generation intensifiers under development. It covers a representative sample of applications that have been documented to date by the various manufacturers of Image Intensifiers and the laboratories and agencies that evaluate them. The paper incorporates 37 photographs and illustrations of devices and their applications in support of the communities listed. A list of documented applications and an Image Intensifier tube sensitivity chart is provided for information and reference. (Author).

Book Solid State Image Intensifiers Application of Light and Image Intensification Techniques to Military Training Phase Iv Project Lit

Download or read book Solid State Image Intensifiers Application of Light and Image Intensification Techniques to Military Training Phase Iv Project Lit written by Zoltan Szepesi and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of the contract were: (1) to improve reproducibility and uniformity of image intensifier panels; (2) to improve speed of response and output brightness; (3) to prove feasibility of building image intensifier panels in modularized construction; (4) to have black and white output image; and (5) to be able to view the image in moderately illuminated rooms. Most of the objectives of this program have been closely approached. The reproducibility and uniformity of small intensifier units have been improved. Also, the spectral response at the lower end of the visible spectrum has been increased. A modularized image intensifier panel, consisting of nine modules of 2 inches x 2 inches has been built with acceptable uniformity and yield of fabrication. It had white output light and the image could be viewed in an ambient illumination of 20 ft-c. In a later development, still considerable improvement in picture quality has been obtained and a resolution of 180 lines/inch has been reached. It is concluded that the stage has been reached where the fabrication of larger modules and modularized panels could be undertaken. (Author).

Book Solid State Image Intensifiers Application of Light and Image Intensification Techniques to Military Training Phase Iv

Download or read book Solid State Image Intensifiers Application of Light and Image Intensification Techniques to Military Training Phase Iv written by Zoltan Szepesi and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this contract were: (1) to improve reproducibility and uniformity of image intensifier panels; (2) to improve speed of response and output brightness; (3) to prove feasibility of building image intensifier panels in modularized construction; (4) to have a black and white output image; and (5) to be able to view the image in moderately illuminated rooms. The most effort during the first year of this program was spent on the study of reproducibility. Some problems of the modularized construction were solved. Image intensifiers with white output light have been built. Problems of ambient light viewing have been analyzed and the necessary techniques experimented. No appreciable improvement was achieved in speed of response and output brightness. (Author).

Book Seeing Photons

Download or read book Seeing Photons written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense recently highlighted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities as a top priority for U.S. warfighters. Contributions provided by ISR assets in the operational theaters in Iraq and Afghanistan have been widely documented in press reporting. While the United States continues to increase investments in ISR capabilities, other nations not friendly to the United States will continue to seek countermeasures to U.S. capabilities. The Technology Warning Division of the Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) Defense Warning Office (DWO) has the critical responsibility, in collaborations with other components of the intelligence community (IC), for providing U.S. policymakers insight into technological developments that may impact future U.S. warfighting capabilities. To this end, the IC requested that the National Research Council (NRC) investigate and report on key visible and infrared detector technologies, with potential military utility, that are likely to be developed in the next 10-15 years. This study is the eighth in a series sponsored by the DWO and executed under the auspices of the NRC TIGER (Technology Insight-Gauge, Evaluate, and Review) Standing Committee.
