Book Prediction of Turbulent Boundary Layers and Wakes in Compressible Flow by a Lag Entrainment Method

Download or read book Prediction of Turbulent Boundary Layers and Wakes in Compressible Flow by a Lag Entrainment Method written by J. E. Green and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rapid method is presented for predicting the development of turbulent boundary layers and wakes taking account of the influence of the upstream flow history on the turbulent stresses. The method employs the momentum integral equation, the entrainment equation and an equation for the streamwise rate of change of entrainment coefficient. This last, developed from the equation for shear stress which Bradshaw, Ferriss and Atwell derived from the turbulent kinetic energy equation, explicitly represents the balance between the advection, production, diffusion and dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy. The application of the method to two-dimensional and axisymmetric flows is described, and it is shown how secondary influences on the turbulence structure such as longitudinal surface curvature, can be logically taken into account. Comparisons with experiment show that, for incompressible flow, the method is fully comparable comparable in accuracy with the best of the methods assessed at the Stanford Conference of 1968. For compressible flow, the accuracy of the method in flow at constant pressure is ensured by its derivation, but the available experimental data do not enable its accuracy in flows with strong pressure gradients to be assessed with any finality. The field of CFD is strongly represented by the following corporate companies; Boeing; Airbus; Thales; United Technologies and General Electric, government bodies and academic institutions also have a strong interest in this exciting field. Each chapter has also been specifically constructed to constitute as an advanced textbook for PhD candidates working in the field of CFD, making this book essential reading for researchers, practitioners in industry and MSc and MEng students.* A broad overview of the development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with real applications to industry* A Free CD-Rom which contains computer program's suitable for solving non-linear equations which arise in modeling turbulent flows* Professor Cebeci has published over 200 technical papers and 14 books, a world authority in the field of CFD

Book Turbulent Shear Layer Shock Wave Interactions

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Layer Shock Wave Interactions written by J. Delery and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was on a proposal of the late Professor Maurice Roy, member of the French Academy of Sciences, that in 1982, the General Assembly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics decided to sponsor a symposium on Turbulent Shear-Layer/Shock-Wave Interactions. This sympo sium might be arranged in Paris -or in its immediate vicinity-during the year 1985. Upon request of Professor Robert Legendre, member of the French Academy of Sciences, the organization of the symposium might be provided by the Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA). The request was very favorably received by Monsieur l'Ingenieur General Andre Auriol, then General Director of ONERA. The subject of interactions between shock-waves and turbulent dissipative layers is of considerable importance for many practical devices and has a wide range of engineering applications. Such phenomena occur almost inevitably in any transonic or supersonic flow and the subject has given rise to an important research effort since the advent of high speed fluid mechanics, more than forty years ago. However, with the coming of age of modern computers and the development of new sophisticated measurement techniques, considerable progress has been made in the field over the past fifteen years. The aim of the symposium was to provide an updated status of the research effort devoted to shear layer/shock-wave interactions and to present the most significant results obtained recently.

Book Turbulent Flows

Download or read book Turbulent Flows written by Jean Piquet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: obtained are still severely limited to low Reynolds numbers (about only one decade better than direct numerical simulations), and the interpretation of such calculations for complex, curved geometries is still unclear. It is evident that a lot of work (and a very significant increase in available computing power) is required before such methods can be adopted in daily's engineering practice. I hope to l"Cport on all these topics in a near future. The book is divided into six chapters, each· chapter in subchapters, sections and subsections. The first part is introduced by Chapter 1 which summarizes the equations of fluid mechanies, it is developed in C~apters 2 to 4 devoted to the construction of turbulence models. What has been called "engineering methods" is considered in Chapter 2 where the Reynolds averaged equations al"C established and the closure problem studied (§1-3). A first detailed study of homogeneous turbulent flows follows (§4). It includes a review of available experimental data and their modeling. The eddy viscosity concept is analyzed in §5 with the l"Csulting ~alar-transport equation models such as the famous K-e model. Reynolds stl"Css models (Chapter 4) require a preliminary consideration of two-point turbulence concepts which are developed in Chapter 3 devoted to homogeneous turbulence. We review the two-point moments of velocity fields and their spectral transforms (§ 1), their general dynamics (§2) with the particular case of homogeneous, isotropie turbulence (§3) whel"C the so-called Kolmogorov's assumptions are discussed at length.
