Book Finite Element Simulation in Surface and Subsurface Hydrology

Download or read book Finite Element Simulation in Surface and Subsurface Hydrology written by George F. Pinder and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Simulation in Surface and Subsurface Hydrology provides an introduction to the finite element method and how the method is applied to problems in surface and subsurface hydrology. The book presents the basic concepts of the numerical methods and the finite element approach; applications to problems on groundwater flow and mass and energy transport; and applications to problems that involve surface water dynamics. Computational methods for the solution of differential equations; classification of partial differential equations; finite difference and weighted residual integral techniques; and The Galerkin finite element method are discussed as well. The text will be of value to engineers, hydrologists, and students in the field of engineering.

Book Estuarine Processes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Martin Wiley
  • Publisher : Academic Press
  • Release : 2014-05-10
  • ISBN : 1483265420
  • Pages : 447 pages

Download or read book Estuarine Processes written by Martin Wiley and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estuarine Processes, Volume II: Circulation, Sediments, and Transfer of Material in the Estuary provides information pertinent to estuarine processes and focuses on dynamic interactions at several levels of organization. This book describes the effects of physical alterations on estuarial hydraulics, dissolved and particulate material support, and on aquatic biota. Organized into six parts encompassing 27 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the historic changes in salinity balance in the estuarial zone of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. This text then reviews the effect of enlargement of artificial waterway of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, which has resulted in substantial alterations of the physical hydrography, biotic populations and chemical environment of the canal and its approaches. Other chapters consider the elements in a mathematical model for estuarial sediment transport. This book discusses as well sediment transport rates in coastal waters. The final chapter deals with accurate estimates of fish abundance for models of many estuarine processes. This book is a valuable resource for ecologists, environmentalists, and scientists.

Book A Numerical Model of a Fjord Estuary

Download or read book A Numerical Model of a Fjord Estuary written by John Brian Matthews and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is desired to construct a numerical prediction model of the physical processes of circulation in a fjord estuary. A brief review of meteorological and oceanographic modeling techniques is given. The importance of special coordinate systems and choice of grid schemes are discussed. The review of previous modeling work indicates that physical boundaries and the manner in which they are treated are likely to be major new problems to be solved in coastal models. A three dimensional ten layer model is proposed and a set of finite difference equations given. A simplification to a vertical-longitudinal fjord model is made and this set of equations are also given. (Author).

Book Water Waves The Mathematical Theory with Applications

Download or read book Water Waves The Mathematical Theory with Applications written by James Johnston Stoker and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1957, this is a classic monograph in the area of applied mathematics. It offers a connected account of the mathematical theory of wave motion in a liquid with a free surface and subjected to gravitational and other forces, together with applications to a wide variety of concrete physical problems. A never-surpassed text, it remains of permanent value to a wide range of scientists and engineers concerned with problems in fluid mechanics. The four-part treatment begins with a presentation of the derivation of the basic hydrodynamic theory for non-viscous incompressible fluids and a description of the two principal approximate theories that form the basis for the rest of the book. The second section centers on the approximate theory that results from small-amplitude wave motions. A consideration of problems involving waves in shallow water follows, and the text concludes with a selection of problems solved in terms of the exact theory. Despite the diversity of its topics, this text offers a unified, readable, and largely self-contained treatment.
