Book Reservoir Characterization

Download or read book Reservoir Characterization written by Larry Lake and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir Characterization is a collection of papers presented at the Reservoir Characterization Technical Conference, held at the Westin Hotel-Galleria in Dallas on April 29-May 1, 1985. Conference held April 29-May 1, 1985, at the Westin Hotel—Galleria in Dallas. The conference was sponsored by the National Institute for Petroleum and Energy Research, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Reservoir characterization is a process for quantitatively assigning reservoir properties, recognizing geologic information and uncertainties in spatial variability. This book contains 19 chapters, and begins with the geological characterization of sandstone reservoir, followed by the geological prediction of shale distribution within the Prudhoe Bay field. The subsequent chapters are devoted to determination of reservoir properties, such as porosity, mineral occurrence, and permeability variation estimation. The discussion then shifts to the utility of a Bayesian-type formalism to delineate qualitative ""soft"" information and expert interpretation of reservoir description data. This topic is followed by papers concerning reservoir simulation, parameter assignment, and method of calculation of wetting phase relative permeability. This text also deals with the role of discontinuous vertical flow barriers in reservoir engineering. The last chapters focus on the effect of reservoir heterogeneity on oil reservoir. Petroleum engineers, scientists, and researchers will find this book of great value.

Book Application of a Two dimensional Model of Hydrodynamics and Water Quality CE QUAL W2 to Cordell Hull Reservoir Tennessee

Download or read book Application of a Two dimensional Model of Hydrodynamics and Water Quality CE QUAL W2 to Cordell Hull Reservoir Tennessee written by Stacy E. Howington and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although not problematic within this reservoir, unacceptably low dissolved oxygen concentrations farther downstream in the system of reservoirs in the Cumberland River Basin have caused concern. This model study was undertaken to evaluate the water quality (specifically temperature and dissolved oxygen) impacts of operational changes at individual reservoir outlet structures. The study was also designed to reveal the interactions between hydrodynamics and stratification within the reservoir. Unstable stratification is thought to be responsible for additional problems in the reservoir: absence of an anticipated substantial fishery and a less than desirable amount of contact recreation. The concept of installing submerged weirs at the mouths of two of the reservoir's embayments within an established recreational site was proposed to help alleviate these 2 problems. As Cordell Hull Lock and Dam operates as a run-of-the-river navigation project on the main-stem Cumberland River, no significant operational changes at this site are possible. The reservoir is characterized by high flows, intermittent moderate to weak thermal stratification, and a relatively shallow pool. These factors combine, as was demonstrated by the model testing results, to preclude significant control over the release quality characteristics. However, the advective nature of the reservoir presents an advantage. Any changes to the quality of incoming water of Cordell Hull Reservoir will be propagated downstream, largely intact. (EDC).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Produced as a framework for organizing and interpreting environmental data for inventory, monitoring, and research efforts. The descriptions of the 20 ecoregions of Alaska contained in this guide were derived by synthesizing information on the geographic distribution of environmental factors such as climate, terrain, soils, and vegetation. The specific procedures and materials used to delineate the ecoregion boundaries are documented, and the environmental characteristics in each ecoregion are described. Accompanied by a full-color oversize map of the ecoregions, their boundaries, and transitional areas. 42 full-color photos.

Book A Diffusion Hydrodynamic Model

Download or read book A Diffusion Hydrodynamic Model written by Theodore V. Hromadka II and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-09-09 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Diffusion Hydrodynamic Model (DHM), as presented in the 1987 USGS publication, was one of the first computational fluid dynamics computational programs based on the groundwater program MODFLOW, which evolved into the control volume modeling approach. Over the following decades, others developed similar computational programs that either used the methodology and approaches presented in the DHM directly or were its extensions that included additional components and capacities. Our goal is to demonstrate that the DHM, which was developed in an age preceding computer graphics/visualization tools, is as robust as any of the popular models that are currently used. We thank the USGS for their approval and permission to use the content from the earlier USGS report.

Book Advances in Wind Power

Download or read book Advances in Wind Power written by Rupp Carriveau and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-11-21 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's wind energy industry is at a crossroads. Global economic instability has threatened or eliminated many financial incentives that have been important to the development of specific markets. Now more than ever, this essential element of the world energy mosaic will require innovative research and strategic collaborations to bolster the industry as it moves forward. This text details topics fundamental to the efficient operation of modern commercial farms and highlights advanced research that will enable next-generation wind energy technologies. The book is organized into three sections, Inflow and Wake Influences on Turbine Performance, Turbine Structural Response, and Power Conversion, Control and Integration. In addition to fundamental concepts, the reader will be exposed to comprehensive treatments of topics like wake dynamics, analysis of complex turbine blades, and power electronics in small-scale wind turbine systems.

Book Two dimensional Floodplain Modeling

Download or read book Two dimensional Floodplain Modeling written by D. Michael Gee and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A two-dimensional horizontal finite element numerical model (RMA-2) was applied to a 15 mile (24 km) river channel-floodplain reach in West Germany. Previous applications of such models have been restricted to much smaller scales. The results indicate that finite element schemes may successfully estimate river stage in large scale floodplain applications. Computed stage hydrographs compared well with observed data using loss coefficients within expected ranges. Two-dimensional flow models have been applied to certain classes of river channel problems. Applications have included detailed analyses of flow patterns near structures such as bridges and floodplains. In all these problems the scale of interest has been small, e.g. reaches of river a few river widths long. Many estuary studies have been done that were of large scale; some of these utilized a hybrid (numerical plus physical) modeling technique. In a review of the application of finite element methods to river channels, Samuels reported that the river channel was resolved separately from the floodplain in only two studies. Missing in previous work is attention to large scale floodplain modeling. The work reported in this paper focuses on the feasibility and accuracy of applying a two-dimensional flow model to a large floodplain. Traditional floodplain studies have used semi-empirical flow routing with steady, one-dimensional computation of water surface elevations to define inundated areas. Keywords: Army Corps of Engines.
