A final, top-secret mission to the Moon. Three astronauts in a tiny module, a quarter of a million miles from home. A quarter of a million miles from help. As Russian and American crews sprint for a secret bounty hidden away on the lunar surface, old rivalries blossom and the political stakes are stretched to the breaking point back on Earth. Houston flight controller Kazimieras "Kaz" Zemeckis must do all he can to keep the NASA crew together, while staying one step ahead of his Soviet rivals. But not everyone on board Apollo 18 is quite who they appear to be. Full of the fascinating technical detail that fans of The Martian loved, and reminiscent of the thrilling claustrophobia, twists and tension of The Hunt for Red October, The Apollo Murders puts you right there in the moment. Experience the fierce G-forces of launch, the frozen loneliness of Space and the fear of holding on to the outside of a spacecraft orbiting the Earth at 17,000 miles per hour, as told by a former Commander of the International Space Station who has done all of those things in real life. Strap in and count down for the ride of a lifetime.

Book excerpt: According to history as we know it, Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon. However, the truth may be far different. When Luna 12 was launched, it captured some of the first photos of the lunar surface and within those, a grainy image appeared, which was confirmed by future Apollo missions as being an archaeological site of incredible interest to mankind. Amidst a veil of secrecy, the US and the Soviets conspired to explore the location at any cost, sending a team to the moon, to excavate, document and retrieve artifacts of great value. In 1975, using the Apollo/Soyuz mission as a distraction, they executed one of the greatest adventures of discovery in human history. Fresh off of the Apollo moon missions, the infrastructure and equipment were still in place to achieve the goal, and amidst a perfect storm of coincidence and opportunity, they took a giant leap into the unknown. The only evidence? An object named 2010 KQ. It is a smoking gun that remains in solar orbit, as an unwelcome reminder of this politically charged battle for control of information, which could have changed the balance of world power at the time. While the mission was a success, the needs of the time dictated a policy of absolute secrecy. This story reveals their intriguing saga of courage and hope. Join their adventure as they travel into the unknown, searching for the answer to one of the greatest questions of mankind. Are we alone?

Download or read book Apollo 20 The Disclosure written by Luca Scantamburlo and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since April 2007, a whistleblower by the name of "retiredafb" has been shocking the general public with its disclosure: footages and comments posted on YouTube and Revver.com. He claims to be William Rutledge, and the Apollo 20 Commander for the USAF (August 1976). Luca Scantamburlo - ex journalist - has interviewed him and another YouTube user ("moonwalker1966delta") who claims to be a former NASA astronaut, and the Apollo 19 Commander (February 1976). Did these presumed secret joint US/USSR space missions take place indeed? The targets would have been some lunar anomalies, on the far side of the Moon. The opinion of the Author is this amazing story contains some kernels of truth, behind the controversial strategy of disclosure (video fakes and misleading data are present). In the book there are the reasons for his opinion, the chronology of his research (with his Web articles already published), the interviews with the two alleged Commanders, and some revelations never published before.

Download or read book Wallace Stevens and Pre Socratic Philosophy written by Daniel Tompsett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-09-10 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies Wallace Stevens and pre-Socratic philosophy, showing how concepts that animate Stevens’ poetry parallel concepts and techniques found in the poetic works of Parmenides, Empedocles, and Xenophanes, and in the fragments of Heraclitus. Tompsett traces the transition of pre-Socratic ideas into poetry and philosophy of the post-Kantian period, assessing the impact that the mythologies associated with pre-Socratism have had on structures of metaphysical thought that are still found in poetry and philosophy today. This transition is treated as becoming increasingly important as poetic and philosophic forms have progressively taken on the existential burden of our post-theological age. Tompsett argues that Stevens’ poetry attempts to ‘play’ its audience into an ontological ground in an effort to show that his ‘reduction of metaphysics’ is not dry philosophical imposition, but is enacted by our encounter with the poems themselves. Through an analysis of the language and form of Stevens’ poems, Tompsett uncovers the mythology his poetry shares with certain pre-Socratics and with Greek tragedy. This shows how such mythic rhythms are apparent within the work of Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger and Hans-Georg Gadamer, and how these rhythms release a poetic understanding of the violence of a ‘reduction of metaphysics.’
