Cependant, les maladies parodontales, la maladie carieuse et le dépistage des cancers buccaux restent un problème majeur de santé publique. Peu de mesures préventives sont mises en œuvre afin de changer cette situation. L’objectif de ce travail est de discuter des intérêts et des obstacles à la mise en place d’un suivi périodique et personnalisé de chaque patient par relance systématique à l’initiative du chirurgien-dentiste. Le praticien se proposerait de rappeler au patient, à date d’échéance et avec accord préalable de sa part, de ne pas oublier de reprendre un rendez-vous contribuant ainsi au suivi régulier et efficace de sa santé. Les intérêts d’une telle mesure se retrouvent à différents niveaux : pour le patient, pour le praticien et en matière de santé publique. Néanmoins, dans les contextes juridique, éthique, économique et organisationnel qui entourent la profession de chirurgien-dentiste, cette proposition peut soulever de nombreuses interrogations. Ce travail de recherche qualitative propose de discuter les intérêts et les obstacles par une analyse de contenu de quatre entretiens semi-directifs réalisés auprès de représentants d’instances françaises susceptibles d’avoir un avis averti sur la question posée. Les obstacles ont été largement analysés tout en reconnaissant unanimement les nombreux intérêts liés à cette mesure. S’il semble que les obstacles juridiques et éthiques puissent être résolus en veillant notamment à la forme que prendrait cette mesure, des obstacles pratiques persistent. Une perspective serait de proposer une mise en place du suivi périodique et personnalisé du patient par relance systématique en phase de test à l’échelle locale afin d’en évaluer, à court terme, la faisabilité et la pertinence pour l’ensemble des acteurs et, à plus long terme, les conséquences sur l’amélioration de la santé des patients et les coûts engendrés.
