Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles and Practices of Method Validation is an overview of the most recent approaches used for method validation in cases when a large number of analytes are determined from a single aliquot and where a large number of samples are to be analysed. Much of the content relates to the validation of new methods for pesticide residue analysis in foodstuffs and water but the principles can be applied to other similar fields of analysis. Different chromatographic methods are discussed, including estimation of various effects, eg. matrix-induced effects and the influence of the equipment set-up. The methods used for routine purposes and the validation of analytical data in the research and development environment are documented. The legislation covering the EU-Guidance on residue analytical methods, an extensive review of the existing in-house method validation documentation and guidelines for single-laboratory validation of analytical methods for trace-level concentrations of organic chemicals are also included. With contributions from experts in the field, any practising analyst dealing with method validation will find the examples presented in this book a useful source of technical information.

Download or read book Food Contaminants and Residue Analysis written by Yolanda Picó and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-09-10 with total page 848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food Contaminants and Residue Analysis treats different aspects of the analysis of contaminants and residues in food and highlights some current concerns facing this field. The content is initiated by an overview on food safety, the objectives and importance of determining contaminants and residues in food, and the problems and challenges associated to these analyses. This is followed by full details of relevant EU and USA regulations. Topics, such as conventional chromatographic methods, accommodating cleanup, and preparing substances for further instrumental analysis, are encompassed with new analytical techniques that have been developed, significantly, over the past few years, like solid phase microextraction, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, immunoassays, and biosensors. A wide range of toxic contaminants and residues, from pesticides to mycotoxins or dioxins are examined, including polychlorinated biphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, N-nitrosamines, heterocyclic amines, acrylamide, semicarbazide, phthalates and food packing migrating substances. This book can be a practical resource that offers ideas on how to choose the most effective techniques for determining these compounds as well as on how to solve problems or to provide relevant information. Logically structured and with numerous examples, Food Contaminants and Residue Analysis will be valuable a reference and training guide for postgraduate students, as well as a practical tool for a wide range of experts: biologists, biochemists, microbiologists, food chemists, toxicologists, chemists, agronomists, hygienists, and everybody who needs to use the analytical techniques for evaluating food safety.

Book Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical Analysis

Download or read book Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical Analysis written by Paul De Bièvre and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now becoming recognized in the measurement community that it is as important to communicate the uncertainty related to a specific measurement as it is to report the measurement itself. Without knowing the uncertainty, it is impossible for the users of the result to know what confidence can be placed in it; it is also impossible to assess the comparability of different measurements of the same parameter. This volume collects 20 outstanding papers on the topic, mostly published from 1999-2002 in the journal "Accreditation and Quality Assurance." They provide the rationale for why it is important to evaluate and report the uncertainty of a result in a consistent manner. They also describe the concept of uncertainty, the methodology for evaluating uncertainty, and the advantages of using suitable reference materials. Finally, the benefits to both the analytical laboratory and the user of the results are considered.

Book Advances in Lipid Methodology

Book Indicators for Waterborne Pathogens

Download or read book Indicators for Waterborne Pathogens written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-06-19 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent and forecasted advances in microbiology, molecular biology, and analytical chemistry have made it timely to reassess the current paradigm of relying predominantly or exclusively on traditional bacterial indicators for all types of waterborne pathogens. Nonetheless, indicator approaches will still be required for the foreseeable future because it is not practical or feasible to monitor for the complete spectrum of microorganisms that may occur in water, and many known pathogens are difficult to detect directly and reliably in water samples. This comprehensive report recommends the development and use of a "tool box" approach by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency and others for assessing microbial water quality in which available indicator organisms (and/or pathogens in some cases) and detection method(s) are matched to the requirements of a particular application. The report further recommends the use of a phased, three-level monitoring framework to support the selection of indicators and indicator approaches.Â

Book Handbook of Analysis of Edible Animal By Products

Download or read book Handbook of Analysis of Edible Animal By Products written by Leo M.L. Nollet and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered high-priced delicacies or waste material to be tossed away, the use and value of offal—edible and inedible animal by-products—depend entirely on the culture and country in question. The skin, blood, bones, meat trimmings, fatty tissues, horns, hoofs, feet, skull, and entrails of butchered animals comprise a wide variety of products including human or pet food or processed materials in animal feed, fertilizer, or fuel. Regardless of the final product’s destination, it is still necessary to employ the most up-to-date and effective tools to analyze these products for nutritional and sensory quality as well as safety. Providing a full overview of the analytical tools currently available, the Handbook of Analysis of Edible Animal By-Products examines the role and use of the main techniques and methodologies used worldwide for the analysis of animal by-products. Divided into four parts, this unique handbook covers the chemistry and biochemistry involved in the fundamentals of the field and considers the technological quality, nutritional quality, and safety required to produce a viable product. Beginning with an introduction to the chemical and biochemical compounds of animal by-products, the book details the use and detection of food-grade proteins, rendered fats, and cholesterol. It discusses how to determine oxidation in edible by-products, measurement of color in these products, and the analysis of nutritional aspects such as essential amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. The latter portion of the book deals with safety parameters, particularly the analytical tools for the detection of pathogens, toxins, and chemical toxic compounds usually found in muscle foods. Specific chapters highlight the detection of tissues typically found in animal by-products, such as neuronal tissues, non-muscle tissues, and bone fragments.
