Download or read book Just Traveling written by Jaco J. Hamman and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just Traveling celebrates overcoming distance and seeking difference as defining human traits. Following the scriptural witness of God as the Earthroamer, the book explores the liminal qualities of traveling through six movements: anticipating, leaving, surrendering, meeting, caring, and returning. To travel is to move at the speed of being present to one's experiences, bridging distance and difference through acts of care. Drawing on personal experience as well as the wisdom of theology, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, and cultural studies, Hamman reimagines travel in a welcoming and beautiful, yet also complex and troubled world. Whether leaving home serves our wanderlust and curiosity or has personal or spiritual purposes; whether we travel a few miles or cover vast distances, we travel best when we contribute to human flourishing. Care--the compassionate reaching out to someone or something--is the practice that allows one to travel differently. The spirituality of roads is filled with hopeful restorative potential, and life is best lived with the Earthroamer.

Book excerpt: A story about friendships and commitment to one another so incredible you wouldn't believe it if it wasn't true. Kevan is just one of the guys. It's impossible to know him and not become a little more excited about life. He is an inspiring man permeated by joy, unafraid of sorrow, full of vitality and life! His sense of humor is infectious and so is his story. He grew up, he says, at "belt-buckle level" and stayed there until Kevan's beloved posse decided to leave his wheelchair at the Atlanta airport, board a plane for France, and have his friends carry him around Europe to accomplish their dream to see the world together! Kevan's beloved posse traveled to Paris, England, and Ireland where, in the climax of their adventure, they scale 600 feet up to the 1,400-year-old monastic fortress of Skellig Michael. In We Carry Kevan the reader sits with Kevan, one head-level above everyone else for the first time in his life and enjoys camaraderie unlike anything most people ever experience. Along the way they encounter the curiosity and beauty of strangers, the human family disarmed by grace, and the constant love of God so rich and beautiful in the company of good friends. We Carry Kevan displays the profound power of friendship and self-sacrifice.

Download or read book Traveling at the Speed of Love written by Sonia Choquette and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times–bestselling author: A paradigm-shifting guide to moving through fear and embracing what matters most in life—love When we travel at the speed of love, we choose to live in a frequency of unconditional love. Today, most of us travel at the frequency of fear and live with a victim consciousness. When we’re traveling at the fear frequency, no matter how fast we go, we can never get to our destination. The victim consciousness is based on the premise: "I have no choice." Traveling at the speed of love means taking our power back. We’re actually in a different universe when we travel at the speed of love. Our world is not a menacing, threatening race geared to cheat death. It becomes, at any moment, so satisfying that if this were our last moment on Earth, that would be okay. This is not to say that change is easy. To travel at the speed of love might require a complete paradigm shift in the way you look at your everyday existence. In this fascinating book, Sonia Choquette provides a practical, in-the-trenches guide that will reveal how you can reprogram your brain and change your life for the better. Ask yourself this question: What frequency are you traveling on right now?

Download or read book Traveling Back written by Susan McWilliams and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a global age, an age of vast scale and speed, an age of great technological and economic and environmental change, in conditions our ancestors could hardly have imagined. What does this compression of geographical and temporal scale mean for our political thinking? Do we need new modes of political thought or a new kind of political imagination? How might we begin to develop a truly global political theory? Against the common belief that we need a wholly new political theory for our global age, Susan McWilliams argues that the best foundation is already behind us and can be found by traveling back. In doing this -- revisiting the history of political thought with a mind to the questions accompanying globalization -- it becomes clear that the greatest tool for understanding our "new world" lies in one of the oldest themes in Western political theory: travel. Since the beginnings of Western political thought -- the ancient Greeks referred to travel as theoria -- political theorists have used images of travel to illuminate the central questions of globalization; where travel stories appear, we find serious reflection about how to live in cross-cultural and interconnected political conditions. Here we find attention to the contingency of political identity, to hybridity, and to the threats of colonialism and imperialism. We even find self-critical questioning about the dangers that face political theorists who want to think globally. In Traveling Back, McWilliams uncovers the rich travel-story tradition of political theorizing that speaks directly to the problems of our age. She explores why this travel-story tradition has been so long neglected, especially in this time when we need its wisdom, and she calls for its rediscovery. In order to move forward toward a global political theory, as McWilliams eloquently demonstrates, we must first learn to travel back.

Download or read book Travel Like a Millionaire Without Being One written by Sigrid Carter and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sigrid Carters life story is worthy of becoming a movie. This was true before she even turned thirty. As an adventurous girl in her twenties, she and three girlfriends from Germany trekked from Colorado to the Pacific coast of Panama, where the group of friends took a canoe into the ocean, got lost, and found themselves surrounded by sharks, just as bad weather set in. Somehow, they survived. The tide carried them to the shores of Columbia, where they spent time living with Indians. Further into their exciting adventure, they assisted biologists researching the Amazon rain forests. The chief of that US expedition later became Sigrids husband. A Peruvian filmmaker did, in fact, turn the ordeal into a television movie, but before the girls had the chance to see the movie, they were already in Chile, busy continuing the lives most of us can only imagine.
