This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book basically covers analysis of anti-friction bearings and lubricants under electric current in 9 Chapters including that of threshold voltage phenomenon, start/stop characteristics, electrical parameters of bearings, capacitive effects, deterioration of lubricants, and bearing failure under shaft voltages. Theoretical procedure to establish, capacitance, resistance, capacitive reactance, impedance, pitch of corrugations, and charge accumulation on surfaces of bearings is given that originates the new methodology for the diagnosis of bearings. Also, the decrease in life span of bearings, lubricant resistivity, recovery/recouping of resistivity under the influence of different levels of voltages has been established. The dynamic coefficients of anti-friction bearings have been determined using an electrical analogy approach beside determination of minimum cycles before craters and corrugations are formed on the active surface of bearings.

Book Tribology in Electrical Environments

Download or read book Tribology in Electrical Environments written by H. Prashad and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-12-12 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarises work done and experience gained over the past three decades in the area of tribology in electrical environments. It takes a close look at behaviour and response characteristics of rolling-element, and hydrodynamic journal & thrust bearings working under the influence of electrical current. Detailed analysis plugs the existing knowledge gaps in the area of tribology in electrical environments. This is because the genesis of intermolecular forces during tribological interaction involves electrostatic attraction or repulsion that creates electro-dynamic, magnetic and exchange forces between atoms. Therefore all tribological phenomena occurring in any interacting system is electrical in nature. Keep your collection up-to date with the latest volume from Elsevier's Tribology and Interface Engineering Book Series Includes ‘real life' case studies

Book Resistivity an Online Monitoring Parmeter for Antifriction Bearings

Download or read book Resistivity an Online Monitoring Parmeter for Antifriction Bearings written by Surendra Pal Singh Matharu and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The condition monitoring of rolling element bearings is becoming critical with advancement of technology. The existing major monitoring methods such as Vibration Signature Analysis, Acoustic Emission Measurement, Measurement of lubricant film thickness using Ultrasound Transducer or Strain Gages, Interferometric measurement of lubricant film thickness, etc. are either expensive or applicable after some wear has been set in or cannot be used for online condition monitoring of antifriction bearings. There always exists a possibility for development of a condition monitoring method which is simple, inexpensive and reliable. Keeping this in view, a new methodology has been developed for determination of lubricant film thickness based on Hertz contact theory. The formula for lubricant film thickness requires electrical resistivity of lubricant as one of the parameter. Thus, an inexpensive experimental setup is developed for determination of electrical resistivity of liquid lubricants and the results are validated in the work. The proposed method shows variation of lubricant film thickness during operation of bearing thus can be used for Predictive Online Condition Monitoring.

Book Hydrodynamic Lubrication

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Lubrication written by J. Frene and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-11-10 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrodynamic Lubrication is the culmination of over 20 years close, collaborative work by the five authors and discusses the practical use of the formalization of low pressure lubrication. The work concentrates on the developments to journal and thrust bearings and includes subjects such as: • the dynamic behaviour of plain and tilting-pads • the thermal aspects • the positive and negative effects of non-cyclindricity and shape defects resulting from manufacturing or operation • the effects of inertia • the appearance of Taylor's vortices and of turbulence and their repercussions. The book contains an abundance of test results objectively compared with theoretical conclusions and a chapter on "technical considerations" to ensure that draft mechanisms will work satisfactorily under the imposed conditions. Hydrodynamic Lubrication is an essential reference book for future and practising engineers who want to put hydrodynamic and hydrostatic journal bearings and thrust bearings into operation under conditions of total safety.

Book Hydrostatic Lubrication

Download or read book Hydrostatic Lubrication written by R. Bassani and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-08-20 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrostatic lubrication is characterized by the complete separation of the conjugated surfaces of a kinematic pair, by means of a film of fluid, which is pressurized by an external piece of equipment. Its distinguishing features are lack of wear, low friction, high load capacity, a high degree of stiffness and the ability to damp vibrations. This book reviews the study of externally pressurized lubrication, both from the theoretical and the technical point of view, thereby serving the needs of both researchers as well as students and technical designers. In this connection, design suggestions for the most common types of hydrostatic bearings have been included, as well as a number of examples. A comprehensive bibliography is included with each chapter providing up to date references for more in depth coverage.
