Book Anthropometric Survey of the Royal Thai Armed Forces

Download or read book Anthropometric Survey of the Royal Thai Armed Forces written by Robert Manson White and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An anthropometric survey of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Thailand was conducted between October 1962 and March 1963. Body measurements were obtained on a total series of 2,950 men, consisting of 2,010 of the Royal Thai Army, 610 of the Royal Thai Marine Corps, and 330 of the Royal Thai Air Force. Fifty-two measurements were made on each individual. The anthropometric data have been analyzed and are presented. The average height and weight of Thai military personnel were equivalent to the 5th percentile values of height and weight for United States soldiers. The Thai soldier is about four inches shorter in stature and 30 pounds lighter in weight than the average United States soldier. The results of the survey, which provide information on the body size of Thai military personnel, may be utilized in the engineering design and sizing of clothing and equipment intended for use by the Royal Thai Armed Forces."--Summary.

Book Anthropometric Source Book Volume 2 A Handbook of Anthropometric Data

Download or read book Anthropometric Source Book Volume 2 A Handbook of Anthropometric Data written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-volume publication brings together a large mass of anthropometric data which define the physical size, mass distribution properties, and dynamic capabilities of U.S. and selected foreign adult populations. Aimed specifically to. meet the needs of design engineers engaged in the design and execution of clothing, equipment, and workspaces for the NASA Space Shuttle Program, the book is also. designed to be of use to human engineers in a wide variety of fields. It is not only a comprehensive source of specific anthropometric information but also a guide to the effective applications of such data. Subjects covered in Volume I include physical changes in the zero-g environment, variability in body size, mass distribution properties of the human body, arm and leg reach, joint motion, strength, sizing and design of. clothing and workspaces, and statistical guidelines. Material presented includes such unpublished anthropometric data measured under one-g and zero-g conditions. Also included are 1985 body size projections and actual cutouts of quarter-scale two-dimensional manikins for use by designers. Volume II contains data resulting from surveys of 61 military and civilian populations of both sexes from the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Some 295 measured variables are defined and illustrated. Volume III is an annotated bibliography covering a broad spectrum of topics relevant to applied physical anthropology with emphasis on anthropometry and its applications in sizing and design.

Book excerpt: Discover the definitive history of DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, in this Pulitzer Prize finalist from the author of the New York Times bestseller Area 51. No one has ever written the history of the Defense Department's most secret, most powerful, and most controversial military science R&D agency. In the first-ever history about the organization, New York Times bestselling author Annie Jacobsen draws on inside sources, exclusive interviews, private documents, and declassified memos to paint a picture of DARPA, or "the Pentagon's brain," from its Cold War inception in 1958 to the present. This is the book on DARPA -- a compelling narrative about this clandestine intersection of science and the American military and the often frightening results.

Book Anthropometric Survey of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam

Download or read book Anthropometric Survey of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam written by Robert Manson White and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An anthropometric survey of military personnel of the Republic of Vietnam was conducted between 28 May and 1 July 1963. Body measurements were obtained on a total series of 2,129 men consisting of 1,225 of the Army, 299 of the Navy, 301 of the Marine Corps, and 304 of the Air Force. Fifty-one measurements were made on each individual. The anthropometric data were analyzed and are presented in this report in the form of statistical values. It was found that the 50th percentile value for the stature of Vietnamese military personnel is equivalent to the 2nd percentile value for United States soldiers, while the 50th percentile value for the weight of Vietnamese is less than the 1st percentile value for United States soldiers. The average Vietnamese is about 5 inches shorter in stature and 43 pounds lighter in weight than the average United States soldier. The results of the survey may be utilized in the engineering design and sizing of clothing and equipment intended for use by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam.

Book Surveillance Valley

Download or read book Surveillance Valley written by Yasha Levine and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The internet is the most effective weapon the government has ever built. In this fascinating book, investigative reporter Yasha Levine uncovers the secret origins of the internet, tracing it back to a Pentagon counterinsurgency surveillance project. A visionary intelligence officer, William Godel, realized that the key to winning the war in Vietnam was not outgunning the enemy, but using new information technology to understand their motives and anticipate their movements. This idea -- using computers to spy on people and groups perceived as a threat, both at home and abroad -- drove ARPA to develop the internet in the 1960s, and continues to be at the heart of the modern internet we all know and use today. As Levine shows, surveillance wasn't something that suddenly appeared on the internet; it was woven into the fabric of the technology. But this isn't just a story about the NSA or other domestic programs run by the government. As the book spins forward in time, Levine examines the private surveillance business that powers tech-industry giants like Google, Facebook, and Amazon, revealing how these companies spy on their users for profit, all while doing double duty as military and intelligence contractors. Levine shows that the military and Silicon Valley are effectively inseparable: a military-digital complex that permeates everything connected to the internet, even coopting and weaponizing the antigovernment privacy movement that sprang up in the wake of Edward Snowden. With deep research, skilled storytelling, and provocative arguments, Surveillance Valley will change the way you think about the news -- and the device on which you read it.

Book Anthropometric Survey ANSUR II Pilot Study

Download or read book Anthropometric Survey ANSUR II Pilot Study written by Steve Paquette and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Virtually every Army materiel system in use was designed and/or sized using a database of anthropometric information that is 20 years old. It was based on the Army Anthropometric Survey (ANSUR), which was conducted in 1988 on only Active Duty Soldiers. However, more than one-half of today's fighting forces are National Guard and Reserve component troops. A pilot study (ANSUR II) was recently undertaken to (1) assess anthropometric change since 1988 within the Active Army; (2) to assess anthropometric differences among Army Active, Reserve, and National Guard components; and (3) to provide guidance on whether a further, more comprehensive survey and an update of the current ANSUR database are needed. This report provides measurement methods and summary statistics for 25 body measurements made on 2811 male and 651 female soldiers in the pilot study. The anthropometric change since 1988 and tests of component differences are presented in a separate technical report. The subjects were weighted by component, sex, age, and racial/ethnic group to match Total Army demographics as of March 2007 in order to provide interim design guidance on Total Army body size distributions as of March 2007." --- (report documentation page).
