Book Anthology of the Best French Short Stories

Download or read book Anthology of the Best French Short Stories written by French Classical Authors and published by Nicolae Sfetcu. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developed from oral storytelling tradition from the Middle Ages, short story was developed and diversified so that it is now difficult to characterize it. It cannot be included into a specific genre and substantially differ by country and historical period. Short story uses specific techniques to emphasize a singular effect or mood. There are many funny definitions for short stories: "strong essences in small bottles", "to say much in a few words", "a way of synthesized thinking", "a quick way, appropriate to this century, to convey ideas", "intelligence on small spaces", etc. It is a very suitable genre for the youth of today, with concise and powerful message. An escape from the real world in a totally different universe for some, an opportunity to relax or a means of procrastination for others. Short stories readers have more powerful, concentrated and intense ideas and emotions. A deep and relaxing art, very appropriate for our time. I brought together in this anthology some of the most beautiful short stories of the classical French literature. The first edition will be continued over many years to come, with other stories at least as beautiful, written by the most famous French authors.

Book Memories of a Sparrow

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I was born in the acclimation garden of the Bois de Boulogne. My mother had made a choice, to build her nest, of the thatched roof covering the house of a huge, but frightful bird called Marabou... Carpet under the crossed thatch, we lived in the greatest abundance; the mash of the foreign birds assembled in this garden provided my father and my tender mother with an inexhaustible mine to feed us, and the prudent sparrow woman had chosen the house of Marabou because of the proximity of the water, which allowed her to find easily at the edge the worms that we urgently need during our young age, especially at the time of growth of our feathers. My nesting companions were two brothers and two sisters, and our parents waited only a few days to show us the use of our wings. Alas! this is easier said than done! One night, the wind rose under the pressure of the storm. Carpet in the bottom of our nest, under the wings of our parents, we trembled with repeated lightning flashes and under the hot gusts that shook the house on its foundations. Faint with fear, wet with torrents of water coming through the straws and dripping on our nest, we pressed against each other without even daring to cry." CONTENTS: I. Book Climate Change Global Warming

Download or read book Climate Change Global Warming written by Nicolae Sfetcu and published by MultiMedia Publishing. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brutal and catastrophic warming could put humanity in short-term risk, a climate hypothesis that was first presented as highly speculative and subject to more science fiction than a serious prospective, before taking consistency by the scientists from the Rio Summit, and the difficulties of implementing the Kyoto Protocol. This possibility is beginning to be considered by the futurists, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), under the aegis of the UN, then a university report synthesis and evaluation that a large and abrupt changes may jeopardize all or part of humanity, biodiversity or societies and ecosystems to adapt capacities. The large press is gradually echoed, referring to the international climate negotiations "more difficult than on nuclear disarmament" and risking "the future of humanity". Tens of thousands of deaths are attributed to heat waves. Floods are expected to increase. The Arctic is warming faster than other European regions, resulting in a doubling of melting of the Greenland ice cap. The sea has risen, with local isostatic variations. Impacts are expected on the flora (flowering, tree diseases..., but also on wildlife: zoonoses, range change) and diseases (ticks, some mosquitoes and sandflies go back further north and at altitude). The pollen season is longer. The plankton is changing and - outside marine environments - the migration/adaptation speed of many species is insufficient compared to the speed of biological and geoclimatic disturbances, which aggravates the risk of extinction. Agricultural yields are expected to decrease to the south and perhaps increase to the north. The reality of risk and the phenomenon is now almost consensus. Faced with the problem, three approaches complement each other: fight against greenhouse gas emissions, carbon sinks, and adaptation.

Download or read book French Decadent Tales written by Stephen Romer and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'He had become the dandy of the unpredictable.' A quest for new sensations, and an avowed desire to shock possessed the Decadent writers of fin-de-siècle Paris. The years 1880-1900 saw an extraordinary, hothouse flowering of talent, that produced some of the most exotic, stylized, and cerebral literature in the French language. While 'Decadence' was a European movement, its epicentre was the French capital. On the eve of Freud's early discoveries, writers such as Gourmont, Lorrain, Maupassant, Mirbeau, Richepin, Schwob, and Villiers engaged in a species of wild analysis of their own, perfecting the art of short fiction as they did so. Death and Eros haunt these pages, and a polymorphous perversity by turns hilarious and horrifying. Their stories teem with addicts, maniacs, and murderers as they strive to outdo each other. This newly translated selection brings together the very best writing of the period, from lesser known figures as well as famous names. Provocative and unsettling, these extraordinary, corrosive little tales continue to cast a cold eye on the modern world. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.
