Book Antenna Synthesis through the Characteristics of Desired Amplitude

Download or read book Antenna Synthesis through the Characteristics of Desired Amplitude written by Mykhaylo I. Andriychuk and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-09-12 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the synthesis problems that arise in the theory and design of radiating systems (antennas). The characteristics of desired amplitude are data placed into a synthesis problem. A synthesis problem belongs to a class of inverse problems and its aim is to determine a distribution of current or fields in an antenna, which produces the amplitude radiation characteristic as close as possible to the desired one. Freedom of choice of phase distribution of the desired radiation pattern (RP) is used as an additional possibility of better approximation to such RPs. This book studies various different types of antennas and arrays as the radiation systems under consideration. A special class of problems related to acoustic and electromagnetic scattering on a set of bodies (particles) of small size is also discussed, while the constructive procedures of creating inhomogeneous materials with specific properties are proposed.

Book Antenna Shape Synthesis Using Characteristic Mode Concepts

Download or read book Antenna Shape Synthesis Using Characteristic Mode Concepts written by Jonathan L. T. Ethier and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characteristic modes (CMs) provide deep insight into the electromagnetic behaviour of any arbitrarily shaped conducting structure because the CMs are unique to the geometry of the object. We exploit this very fact by predicting a perhaps surprising number of important antenna metrics such as resonance frequency, radiation efficiency and antenna Q (bandwidth) without needing to specify a feeding location. In doing so, it is possible to define a collection of objective functions that can be used in an optimizer to shape-synthesize antennas without needing to define a feed location a priori. We denote this novel form of optimization "feedless" or "excitation-free" antenna shape synthesis. Fundamentally, we are allowing the electromagnetics to dictate how the antenna synthesis should proceed and are in no way imposing the physical constraints enforced by fixed feeding structures. This optimization technique is broadly applied to three major areas of antenna research: electrically small antennas, multi-band antennas and reflectarrays. Thus, the scope of applicability ranges from small antennas, to intermediate sizes and concludes with electrically large antenna designs, which is a testament to the broad applicability of characteristic mode theory. Another advantage of feedless electromagnetic shape synthesis is the ability to synthesize antennas whose desirable properties approach the fundamental limits imposed by electromagnetics. As an additional benefit, the feedless optimization technique is shown to have greater computational efficiency than traditional antenna optimization techniques.

Book Selected Topics on Antenna Synthesis

Download or read book Selected Topics on Antenna Synthesis written by Yuri Choni and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-30 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides instrumentation and tools that are essential in developing antennas with desired characteristics. In parallel to studying the problems of antennas synthesis and the methodologies used in solving them, it encourages the reader to train and strengthen the engineering style of thinking, which is of great importance for any technical developer. The book moves away from mere repetition of the classical issues of antenna synthesis, and instead puts emphasis on synthesizing a desired amplitude radiation pattern and on optimization of the antenna’s phase pattern that allows for the elimination of the shadowing effect by a body close to the antenna, in particular.

Book Null Synthesis and Implementation of Cylindrical Microstrip Patch Arrays

Download or read book Null Synthesis and Implementation of Cylindrical Microstrip Patch Arrays written by Philip Niemand and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the wireless communications networks expand, the number of both unwanted directional interferences and strong nearby sources increase, which degrade system performance. The signal-tointerference ratio (SIR) can be improved by using multiple nulls in the directions of the interferences while maintaining omnidirectional coverage in the direction of the network users. For the communication system considered, the interferences are static and their spatial positions are known. A non-adaptive antenna array is needed to provide spatial filtering in a static wireless environment. Omnidirectional arrays, such as cylindrical arrays, are the most suitable to provide the omnidirectional coverage and are capable of suppressing interferences when nulls are inserted in the radiation pattern. In this thesis, a cylindrical microstrip patch antenna array is investigated as an antenna to provide an omnidirectional radiation pattern with nulls at specified angular locations to suppress interference from directional sources. Three null synthesis methods are described and used to provide the omnidirectional array pattern with nulls using the radiation characteristics of the cylindrical microstrip patch antenna elements. The orthogonal projection method is extended to incorporate the directive radiation patterns of the cylindrical microstrip patch elements. Using this method, an optimal pattern that minimises the squared pattern error with respect to the ideal pattern is obtained. Instead of only minimising the array pattern error, a multi-objective optimisation approach is also followed. The objective weighting method is applied in null pattern synthesis to improve the amplitude pattern characteristics of the cylindrical patch arrays. As a third null synthesis technique, a constraint optimisation method is applied to obtain a constrained pattern with the desired amplitude pattern characteristics. The influence of the array attributes on the characteristics of the amplitude patterns obtained from the null synthesis methods, is also studied. In addition, the implementation of the cylindrical microstrip patch array is investigated. The influence of the mutual coupling on the characteristics of the null patterns of the cylindrical patch arrays is investigated utilising simulations and measurements. A mutual coupling compensation technique is used to provide matched and equal driving impedances for all the patch antenna elements given a required set of excitations. Test cases in which this technique is used, are discussed and the consequent improvements in the bandwidth and reflection coefficient of a linear patch arrays are shown. The characteristics of the resulting null pattern for the cylindrical microstrip patch array is also improved using the compensation technique.

Book Particle Swarm Optimizaton

Download or read book Particle Swarm Optimizaton written by Said M. Mikki and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2008-08-08 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work aims to provide new introduction to the particle swarm optimization methods using a formal analogy with physical systems. By postulating that the swarm motion behaves similar to both classical and quantum particles, we establish a direct connection between what are usually assumed to be separate fields of study, optimization and physics. Within this framework, it becomes quite natural to derive the recently introduced quantum PSO algorithm from the Hamiltonian or the Lagrangian of the dynamical system. The physical theory of the PSO is used to suggest some improvements in the algorithm itself, like temperature acceleration techniques and the periodic boundary condition. At the end, we provide a panorama of applications demonstrating the power of the PSO, classical and quantum, in handling difficult engineering problems. The goal of this work is to provide a general multi-disciplinary view on various topics in physics, mathematics, and engineering by illustrating their interdependence within the unified framework of the swarm dynamics. Download or read book Antenna Engineering written by Boris Levin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with theoretical and experimental research of antennas. The presentation is based on the electromagnetic theory. It begins with the theory of thin antennas. Thin antennas represent one of the main types of radiators, thus the theory of thin antennas is the basis of the antennas analysis. Special attention is paid to the integral equation of Leontovich-Levin for a current along a straight thin-walled metal cylinder, which is equivalent to the equation of Hallen with a precise kernel. Together with the analysis of various types of antennas, the book deals with the problems of synthesis including the creation a wide-band radiator by means of determining of the types and the magnitudes of concentrated loads, which are connected along a linear radiator and create in a given frequency band high electrical performance. Problems of antenna engineering are discussed in the second half of the book, including the results of application of a compensation method for the protection of humans against irradiation and structural features of ship antennas.

Download or read book Wide Range Antennas written by Boris Levin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding the range of antenna frequency is the main objective of this book. Solutions proposed are based on the development of new theoretical methods for analyzing and synthesizing antennas. The book shows that concentrated capacitive loads connected along linear and V-antennas provide a high level of matching with a cable over a wide frequency range and improves directional characteristics of antennas, i.e. increases the communication distance. New theoretical methods are proposed for analysis and synthesis of antennas under consideration: 1) method of calculating directional characteristics of radiators with a given current distribution, and 2) method of electrostatic analogy for calculating mutual and total fields of complex multi-element radiating structures. These methods allow us to obtain optimal directional characteristics for director-type antennas (arrays of Yagi-Uda) and log-periodic antennas with concentrated capacitances and show that use of capacitors makes it possible to extend the frequency range of the director antennas and to decrease dimensions of the log-periodic antennas Multi-element (flat and three-dimensional) self-complementary antennas with different variants of connecting generator poles and cable wires to antenna elements are proposed, which improves the matching with a cable. Characteristics of flat structures are compared with characteristics of volume structures: conical, parabolic, and located on a pyramid edges. The book describes new versions of transparent antennas, antennas for cellular communication, multi-tier and multi-radiator antennas, and much more.
