Book English Haitian Creole Bilingual Dictionary

Download or read book English Haitian Creole Bilingual Dictionary written by Albert Valdman and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 861 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Haitian Creole (HC) is spoken by approximately 11,000,000 persons in Haiti and in diaspora communities in the United States and throughout the Caribbean. Thus, it is of great utility to Anglophone professionals engaged in various activities—medical, social, educational, welfare— in these regions. As the most widely spoken and best described creole language, a knowledge of its vocabulary is of interest and utility to scholars in a variety of disciplines. The English-Haitian Creole Bilingual Dictionary (EHCBD) aims to assist anglophone users in constructing written and oral discourse in HC; it also will aid HC speakers to translate from English to their language. As the most elaborate and extensive linguistic tool available, it contains about 30 000 individual entries, many of which have multiple senses and include subentries, multiword phrases or idioms. The distinguishing feature of the EHCBD is the inclusion of translated sentence-length illustrative examples that provide important information on usage.

Orèsjozèf, youn nan edikatè konsyan Ayiti fè n kado, travay sou teyori e pratik alafwa pandan anpil ane l ap anseye. Nou kapab temwaye sa depi 1992 lè n kòmanse obsève devouman li, e kontribisyon l nan devlope materyèl pou ede Pwogram Bileng Ayisyen nan Etazini. Byenke premye sib li ta nivo elemantè men li pa rete la sèlman. Li chache konekte l ak maksimòm Ayisyen posib k ap anseye Etazini, kote l prezante e patisipe nan plizyè konferans ki santre sou edikasyon, diaspora, e sou Ayiti... Kòm anseyan lang etranje (anglè, alman, kreyòl, espayòl e fransè), mwen pran plezi li liv sa a li sot pibliye. Mwen ta rekòmande itilizasyon l nan nivo mwayen, segondè, siperyè Ayiti e a tout Ayisyen ki nan Dyaspora pou ede yo metrize anglè trapde.» Emmanuel W. Védrine, anseyan, chèrchè, ekriven www.potomitan.info/vedrine/index.php Speaking a lot about Kreyòl is one, developing pedagogical materials from there is another. Oresjozèf, one of Haiti’s conscious educators, Haiti has given us gifts, works both theory and practice both for many years. We can testify this from 1992 when we began observing his dedication, and his contribution in developing materials to help the Haitian Bilingual Programs in the United States. Though his first target would be elementary level, he does not remain there only. He seeks to connect himself to the maximum possible Haitians teaching the United States by presenting and participating in conferences centered education, the diaspora and Haiti... As a certified Teacher of Foreign Languages (teaching ESOL, German, Haitian Creole, and French), I enjoyed reading his recent publication. I would recommend its use to elementary, middle, high school, and upper level in Haiti and to all Haitians in diaspora to help them master English quickly. Emmanuel W. Her Livre de la Cité des Dames (1405) is the earliest European work on women's history by a woman. Book The Erotics of Grief

Download or read book The Erotics of Grief written by Megan Moore and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Erotics of Grief considers how emotions propagate power by exploring whose lives are grieved and what kinds of grief are valuable within and eroticized by medieval narratives. Megan Moore argues that grief is not only routinely eroticized in medieval literature but that it is a foundational emotion of medieval elite culture. Focusing on the concept of grief as desire, Moore builds on the history of the emotions and Georges Bataille's theory of the erotic as the conflict between desire and death, one that perversely builds a sense of community organized around a desire for death. The link between desire and death serves as an affirmation of living communities. Moore incorporates literary, visual, and codicological evidence in sources from across the Mediterranean—from Old French chansons de geste, such as the Song of Roland and La mort le roi Artu and romances such as Erec et Enide, Philomena, and Floire et Blancheflor; to Byzantine and ancient Greek novels; to Middle English travel narratives such as Mandeville's Travels. In her reading of the performance of grief as one of community and remembrance, Moore assesses why some lives are imagined as mattering more than others and explores how a language of grief becomes a common language of status among the medieval Mediterranean elite.
