The progenitor of this Lewis family, Andrew E. Lewis, was born 1801 in North Carolina according to 1850 and 1860 U.S. Census of Washington County, Virginia. He married in 1822/23 Elizabeth Kaylor (1804-1846), the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Weeks Kaylor of German descent. Elizabeth Kaylor died in Washington Co., Ill. He married (2) ca. 1849/50 Sarah Smiley (1820-1881). He died between 1860/1870. He had thirteen children.
