Book Multi Stage Simultaneous Lot Sizing and Scheduling

Download or read book Multi Stage Simultaneous Lot Sizing and Scheduling written by Florian Seeanner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to a varying product demand (changing product mix) and different production speeds, bottlenecks may shift between the stages. In that case, a simultaneous lot-sizing and scheduling of these stages is recommendable. Hence, an improved version of the General Lot-Sizing and Scheduling Problem for Multiple production Stages (GLSPMS) was developed. Moreover, several reformulation techniques were applied to this model to solve it exactly. Besides, a new meta-heuristic which combines the principles of Variable Neighborhood Decomposition Search (VNDS) and Exchange was implemented to find good solutions, even for a real-world problem case. Finally, further model extensions, e.g., for scarce setup resources, were proposed.

Book Traveling Salesman Problem

Download or read book Traveling Salesman Problem written by Federico Greco and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea behind TSP was conceived by Austrian mathematician Karl Menger in mid 1930s who invited the research community to consider a problem from the everyday life from a mathematical point of view. A traveling salesman has to visit exactly once each one of a list of m cities and then return to the home city. He knows the cost of traveling from any city i to any other city j. Thus, which is the tour of least possible cost the salesman can take? In this book the problem of finding algorithmic technique leading to good/optimal solutions for TSP (or for some other strictly related problems) is considered. TSP is a very attractive problem for the research community because it arises as a natural subproblem in many applications concerning the every day life. Indeed, each application, in which an optimal ordering of a number of items has to be chosen in a way that the total cost of a solution is determined by adding up the costs arising from two successively items, can be modelled as a TSP instance. Thus, studying TSP can never be considered as an abstract research with no real importance.

Book Metaheuristics for Production Scheduling

Download or read book Metaheuristics for Production Scheduling written by Bassem Jarboui and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the potentialities of metaheuristics for solving production scheduling problems and the relationship between these two fields. For the past several years, there has been an increasing interest in using metaheuristic methods to solve scheduling problems. The main reasons for this are that such problems are generally hard to solve to optimality, as well as the fact that metaheuristics provide very good solutions in a reasonable time. The first part of the book presents eight applications of metaheuristics for solving various mono-objective scheduling problems. The second part is itself split into two, the first section being devoted to five multi-objective problems to which metaheuristics are adapted, while the second tackles various transportation problems related to the organization of production systems. Many real-world applications are presented by the authors, making this an invaluable resource for researchers and students in engineering, economics, mathematics and computer science. Contents 1. This book is meant for both scientists and practitioners. For practitioners, it presents existing solutions that are categorized according to various missions: surveillance and reconnaissance, 3D mapping, urban monitoring, precision agriculture, forestry, disaster assessment and monitoring, security, industrial plant inspection, etc. For scientists, it provides an overview of generic robotic problems such as coverage and orienteering; deployment, patrolling and foraging; search, tracking, and surveillance. The design and analysis of algorithms raise a unique combination of questions from many fields, including robotics, operational research, control theory, and computer science.

Book The Economics of Sustainable Transformation

Download or read book The Economics of Sustainable Transformation written by Anna Szelągowska and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the ways in which three key issues of the modern world – transformation, digitalisation and sustainability – may be combined for the greater good and highlights which activities may be designed to integrate these three directly linked paths. It is an experience-derived and evidence-based analysis of how sustainable development impacts the transformation of the economy and how the business environment influences economic transformation in the light of the sustainable development principles. The book addresses the current challenges and shows how the economy can be transformed further in an organic way that meets the needs of society and the environment, through the use of digital technologies. The multidisciplinary approach to sustainability transformation is one of the core strengths of the book, as it emphasises the need for a holistic approach to the functioning of sustainable development ideas at the micro- and macro-levels. The authors present a fresh perspective, particularly around the regulations stimulating the sustainable development of enterprises, tax systems, and the allocation of capital. Moreover, the book brings together and makes available the results of the latest research on the subject, using a vast amount of primary evidence and both quantitative and qualitative methodology. The authors’ insights go beyond the obvious effects of economic transformation and call attention to ways in which smart technology and digitalisation may help to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The book is directed first and foremost towards academics, researchers and students, but also professionals, who would like to expand their knowledge of sustainable development from a scientific perspective. Chapter 1 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at http://www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4.0 license.

Book excerpt: The sixth edition provides expanded Discussion and Comments and References sections at the end of each chapter, creating a spotlight on practical applications of the theory presented in that chapter. New topics include rules for stochastic parallel machine scheduling and for stochastic online scheduling, models of flow shops with reentry, fixed parameter tractability, and new designs and implementations of scheduling systems. The main structure of the book as per previous edition consists of three parts. The first part focuses on deterministic scheduling and the related combinatorial problems. The second part covers probabilistic scheduling models; in this part it is assumed that processing times and other problem data are random and not known in advance. The third part deals with scheduling in practice; it covers heuristics that are popular with practitioners and discusses system design and implementation issues. All three parts of this new edition have been revamped and streamlined and the references have been made up-to-date. Theoreticians and practitioners alike will find this book of interest. Graduate students in operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, and computer science will find the book an accessible and invaluable resource. Scheduling - Theory, Algorithms, and Systems will serve as an essential reference for professionals working on scheduling problems in manufacturing, services, and other environments. Michael L.
