Book Neoliberalism 2 0 Regulating and Financing Globalizing Markets

Download or read book Neoliberalism 2 0 Regulating and Financing Globalizing Markets written by L. Nijs and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's increasingly globalized environment, many economic fundamentals need to be reconsidered in order to regain stability in the global marketplace. One such consideration is the failing dynamics of the international tax infrastructure. Neoliberalism 2.0 brings a 21st century assessment of the Pigovian taxes, considering a completely new calibration of the international tax systems, inspired by the historically developed Pigovian tax model. The book considers the impact neoliberalism had and will have on regulatory infrastructure, democracy in an era of globalization and reduced legitimation of the national state. The Pigovian model brings home the often forgotten relationship between taxation (as a part of the regulatory sphere), macro-economics, and the political-philosophical context in which law and economics emerge. The model also takes into account the phenomena of globalization and financialization and is tested using the financial sector as an example. This book addresses the many challenges a Pigovian shift would imply for the sovereign and its national economies. Neoliberalism 2.0 demonstrates the ability to design a paradigm-changing alternative to the current tax infrastructure, while taking into account a low economic growth environment of the future, the implications of globalization and the changing relationship between citizens and their state.

Book Determinants of Enterprise Performance

Download or read book Determinants of Enterprise Performance written by Derek L. Bosworth and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on our understanding of the management of enterprise, and explores the strategies that can be adopted to improve enterprise performance. It considers the importance of the quality of management in providing leadership and being willing to take risks. It also debates the effectiveness of adopting high performance management practices such as human resource management and market promotional activities. In focusing on management best practice and its link with performance under conditions of risk and uncertainty, the study addresses two key questions: what is the current evidence about the factors that make some enterprises perform better than others? and what are the lessons for company and public policy? This comprehensive study will appeal to students and researchers of economics and economic management.

Book Women Philosophers Volume II

Download or read book Women Philosophers Volume II written by Dorothy G. Rogers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tackling the intellectual histories of the first twenty women to earn a PhD in philosophy in the United States, this book traces their career development and influence on American intellectual life. The case studies include Eliza Ritchie, Marietta Kies, Julia Gulliver, Anna Alice Cutler, Eliza Sunderland, and many more. Author Dorothy Rogers looks at the factors that led these women to pursue careers in academic philosophy, examines the ideas they developed, and evaluates the impact they had on the academic and social worlds they inhabited. Many of these women were active in professional academic circles, published in academic journals, and contributed to important philosophical discussions of the day: the question of free will, the nature of God in relation to self, and how to establish a just society. The most successful women earned their degrees at women-friendly institutions, yet a handful of them achieved professional distinction at institutions that refused to recognize their achievements at the time; John Hopkins and Harvard are notable examples. The women who did not develop careers in academic philosophy often moved to careers in social welfare or education. Thus, whilst looking at the academic success of some, this book also examines the policies and practices that made it difficult or impossible for others to succeed.
