Book On the Gender Performance Gap in Economics Education

Download or read book On the Gender Performance Gap in Economics Education written by Jens K. Perret and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broad ranges of studies have discussed the difference in performance be-tween men and women in relation to their economics education. The German perspective with its particular tertiary education system and decade long his-tory of gender equality movements, however, remain under researched. By implementing two data sets, a German public university and a German pri-vate university of applied sciences, this study aims to provide to the existing literature in this regard. The datasets have been used to test, in a nationwide sample, potential gender differences in the outcome of exams in basic eco-nomics. By consisting of a total of more than 9,000 observations over nine years or 18 semesters and seven locations across Germany, the study con-structs a comprehensive view of the German academic landscape. The results as well as robustness checks show that gender effects are marginal at best. Additionally, it has been shown that no significant differences exist across the difference forms of universities. The results of this broadband sam-ple lead to the conjecture that in Germany, independent of the type of uni-versity, over the last decades gender equality in economics education has been consolidated and any observed effects are due to external factors alone.

Book Explanation Within the Bounds of Religion

Download or read book Explanation Within the Bounds of Religion written by Wilko van Holten and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2003 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the question of whether religious worldviews fulfil an explanatory function in the lives of believers. After rebutting some common objections to this claim, the author proposes to understand the explanatory nature of religious belief along the lines of inference to the best explanation. This proposal is qualified in view of the peculiar nature of religious belief: It is stressed that the type of explanation concerned occurs within the bounds of religion alone, and loses its sense apart from the religious form of life. In unfolding his argument, the author draws heavily on ideas of explanation developed in the philosophy of science, pointing to differences and comparisons between religious and scientific explanations. The author concludes by considering some specific things that theism explains.

Book Behavioral Finance

Download or read book Behavioral Finance written by Rolf J. Daxhammer and published by UVK Verlag. This book was released on 2023-01-30 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last 50 years, neoclassical financial theory has been dominating our perception of what is happening in financial markets. It has spurred numerous valuable theories and concepts all based on the concept of Homo Economicus, the strictly rational economic man. However, humans do not always act in a strictly rational manner. For students and practitioners alike, our book aims at opening the door to another perspective on financial markets: a behavioral perspective based on a Homo Oeconomicus Humanus. This agent acts with limited rationality when making decisions. He/she uses heuristics and shortcuts and is prone to the influence of emotions. This sounds familiar in real life and can be transferred to what happens in financial markets, too.

Book The Nutri Score in the German Perception

Download or read book The Nutri Score in the German Perception written by Yvette Skretkowicz and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-06-17 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nutri-Score is currently used in 7 countries in the EU and is part of the German re-duction and innovation strategy to combat non-communicable diseases related to un-healthy eating. The Nutri-Score is intended to inform consumers and serves as a guide when buying packaged food. The aim of this study is to investigate the significance, benefits, function and credibility of the Nutri-Score in Germany from the perspective of nutrition experts, business representatives from food companies, packaging experts and general consumers. A qualitative method was selected for the evaluation and a survey was conducted with the help of expert interviews with 23 industry experts on their personal opinion of the Nutri-Score. The qualitative method allowed the research questions to be considered from the per-spective of different experts and two-sided responses showed that the answers varied depending on the professional background of the experts. In summary, it can be said that the Nutri-Score can be used as a guide for the average consumer, but there are still some suggestions for improvement, such as the consideration of additional ingre-dients, the controlling of the label and a fundamental holistic nutritional education.

Book Capital Market Anomalies Explained by Human s Irrationality

Download or read book Capital Market Anomalies Explained by Human s Irrationality written by Irini Varvouzou and published by Anchor Academic Publishing (aap_verlag). This book was released on 2013-05-21 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do small caps achieve higher risk-adjusted yields than large caps? Why do stock prices increase or decrease upon an index entry respectively deletion? Why does January records higher yields than the remaining months of the year? These as well as other observed capital market anomalies or phenomena could be insufficiently explained by the classical capital market theory, which proceeds on the assumptions that all correspondent information are reflected in the stock prices, all negative effects are directly balanced on the market level and that efficiency of arbitrage principle exists as well as that all market participants act rationally (i.e. optimizing their benefits in the sense of the homo economicus). This motivated some economists and psychologists to include behavioural scientific findings in their research of the influences on the formation of prices on the capital market. In the 1980s the theory of Behavioural Finance was developed, which challenges the homo economicus. Researchers came to the conclusion that humans are not only acting rational, but that they are also influenced by emotions, knowledge and experiences. This new scientific behavioural oriented theory, which is today a separate branch of research, contradicts the classical capital market theory and supplies explanations for the observed phenomena on the capital market. The aim of this book is to demonstrate how human behaviour influences the development on the capital market and how Behavioural Finance serves as an explanation for the empirically observed capital market anomalies. This book begins with the introduction of the theoretical basis of Behavioural Finance and its emergence; tasks as well as aims will be explained in detail. Subsequently, human's heuristics as well as anomalies and irrationalities in their decision making process will be demonstrated. In the third chapter, the capital market anomalies or phenomena as well as the irrational and behavioural reasons for their existen

Book Measuring and Restoring customer trust

Download or read book Measuring and Restoring customer trust written by Simon Stotz and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-02-09 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written about trust. Despite the fact that there is a general understand-ing of how important trust is in interpersonal and business relations it becomes obvi-ous that this construct remains somewhat indistinct when it comes to pinning down how trust is build or destroyed, how levels of trust can be measured precisely and how trust can be restored if it has deteriorated. Therefor this research makes use of an earlier model by Kreikenberg (2013) which pro-vides one of the most comprehensive models for measuring trust via seven trust-build-ing factors in five trust-dimensions. This model, due to its complexity, has been adapted and simplified. Moreover, the model was enhanced to include an empirical approach to detect trust building measures to restore trust. The adapted model was put to an empirical test on the Volkswagen Diesel Exhaust Scandal of 2015 with VW-customers. Findings show that the adapted model could pro-vide results on which dimensions and factors show a deterioration of trust and simul-taneously how trust gaps detected could be filled via measures proposed by custom-ers. Although this research must be called explorative, results give some indication that the new model appears to work satisfactory and should be put to further empirical tests in other companies and industry to find further proof for a general applicability.
