The protagonist Anita, a 14-year-old girl, is one of the more than 100,000 young people who volunteer. Many, including Anita, endure primitive conditions, great challenges, and even dangers while on their assignments. Although thousands of adults were also literacy volunteers, young people were the core and heart of the campaign.On December 22, 1961 Cuba raised a flag in Havana's gigantic civic square proclaiming Cuba: Territory Free From Illiteracy. Due to the dedication and enthusiasm of those youth, illiteracy was almost abolished. The country was transformed. Anita's Revolution honours the potential of youth, and champions the importance of education and knowledge.

The health benefits of plant-based eating can prevent, treat, and often reverse these deadly diseases. I share my personal journey, tell you how you can take charge of your health with this lifestyle, and encourage all physicians to learn about plant-based eating so they can offer it to their patients as the primary avenue to prevent, treat, and even cure their diseases. Book excerpt: At the start of the Industrial Revolution, it appeared that most scientific instruments were made and sold in London, but by the time of the Great Exhibition in 1851, a number of provincial firms had the self-confidence to exhibit their products in London to an international audience. How had this change come about, and why? This book looks at the four main, and two lesser, English centres known for instrument production outside the capital: Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield, along with the older population centres in Bristol and York. Making wide use of new sources, Dr Morrison-Low, curator of history of science at the National Museums of Scotland, charts the growth of these centres and provides a characterisation of their products. New information is provided on aspects of the trade, especially marketing techniques, sources of materials, tools and customer relationships. Philis M. Barragán Goetz argues that the history of escuelitas is not only a story of resistance in the face of Anglo hegemony but also a complex and nuanced chronicle of ethnic Mexican cultural negotiation.
