Book Anisotropy Effects in Superconductors

Download or read book Anisotropy Effects in Superconductors written by Harald Weber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considering the enormous progress achieved in some special areas of superconductivity during the last few years, it seemed worthwhile to discuss thoroughly a subject, which has encountered severe pro blems on the theoretical and the experimental side, namely the effects of the anisotropic electron and phonon properties of (single crystalline) materials on the characteristic features of the super conducting state. The fact that the majority of scientists actively engaged in this research field at present were brought together at the meeting, has led to an almost complete coverage of the pertinent topics in this volume. Six review papers discuss the development and the present state of theory and experiment concerning the anisotropies of the upper critical field and the magnetization as well as the flux line lattice and the superconducting energy gap. Furthermore, 18 papers present the most recent research on these properties and additional anisotropy effects associated with the intermediate state patterns or the specific heat. Concerning the magnetic properties, remarkable agreement between theory and experiment has been achieved; on the other hand, controversial views regarding the existence of anisotropy in the superconducting energy gap are presented. In both cases, how ever, theorists and experimentalists are still confronted with a number of open questions. It is the purpose of this book to draw the attention of scientists to these fascinating problems. Harald W.

Book Unconventional Superconductors

Download or read book Unconventional Superconductors written by Iman Askerzade and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-13 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the anisotropy and multiband effects in newly discovered unconventional superconductors: cuprate superconductors, borocarbides, magnezium-diboride and oxypnictides. The physical properties of these unconventional superconductors and the application of the two-band Ginzburg-Landau theory to these superconducting compounds are explained. Temperature dependencies of fundamental superconducting parameters are calculated using the GL theory taking into account multiband-and anisotropy effects. A comparision of theoretical results and experimental data is conducted. Additionally, the analytical solution of the microscopical Eliashberg theory and of the BCS theory is developed for two-band and anisotropic superconductors. Fluctuation effects in newly discovered superconductors are also discussed.

Book Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity

Download or read book Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity written by V.P. Mineev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-09-21 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unconventional superconductivity (or superconductivity with a nontrivial Cooper pairing) is believed to exist in many heavy-fermion materials as well as in high temperature superconductors, and is a subject of great theoretical and experimental interest. The remarkable progress achieved in this field has not been reflected in published monographs and textbooks, and there is a gap between current research and the standard education of solid state physicists in the theory of superconductivity. This book is intended to meet this information need and includes the authors' original results.

Book Manipulating Anisotropic Transport and Superconductivity by Focused Ion Beam Microstructuring

Download or read book Manipulating Anisotropic Transport and Superconductivity by Focused Ion Beam Microstructuring written by Maja D. Bachmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-28 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents pioneering work in the relatively new field of focused ion beam (FIB) sculpting of single crystals to produce bespoke devices and enable the investigation of physics that cannot be studied in bulk samples. It begins with a comprehensive and didactic account of how to achieve this sculpting, revealing the ‘tricks of the trade’ of state-of-the-art FIB microstructuring. In subsequent chapters, the author presents ground-breaking results obtained from microstructures of the delafossite oxide metal PdCoO2 and the heavy fermion superconductor CeIrIn5. In these elegant, forefront experiments, a new form of directional ballistic transport in the ultra-pure delafossites is described and explained. Furthermore, a new way to spatially modulate superconductivity induced by strain is demonstrated with electrical transport measurements that agree well with predictions based on thermoelastic finite element simulations.

Book Flux Pinning in Superconductors

Download or read book Flux Pinning in Superconductors written by Teruo Matsushita and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-04 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with the flux pinning mechanisms and properties and the electromagnetic phenomena caused by the flux pinning common for metallic, high-temperature and MgB2 superconductors. The loss originates from the ohmic dissipation of normal electrons in the normal core driven by the electric field induced by the flux motion. Readers will learn why the resultant loss is of hysteresis type in spite of such mechanism.

Book Electron phonon Interaction And Lattice Dynamics In High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Electron phonon Interaction And Lattice Dynamics In High Tc Superconductors written by Han Zhang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanism of the high-temperature superconductors has been a very important topic in condensed matter physics. Researchers have been trying to explain the role of electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in cuprates. Some important properties of the cuprates could not be explained by conventional BCS theory. This book contains the experimental and theoretical studies on the EPI. The experimental part covers the results of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), isotopic effect, elastic neutron scattering study of electron-phonon, lattice role and so on. The theoretical part covers the electron-phonon, polaron and bipolaron, effect of lattice, fine structure in the tunnelling spectra of electron-doped cuprates, identification of the bulk pairing symmetry in high-temperature superconductors.Students and researchers interested in high-temperature superconductors, especially the EPI in cuprates will find this title very useful.

Book High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book High Tc Superconductors written by Harald W. Weber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past two years conferences on superconductivity have been characterized by the attendance of hundreds of scientists. Consequently, the organizers were forced to schedule numerous parallel sessions and poster presentations with an almost unsurveyable amount of information. It was, therefore, felt that a more informal get-together, providing ample time for a thourough discussion of some topics of current interest in high-temperature superconductivity, was timely and benefitial for leading scientists as well as for newcomers in the field. The present volume contains the majority of papers presented at the International Discussion Meeting on High-Tc Superconductors held at the Mauterndorf Castle in the Austrian Alps from February 7 to 11, 1988. Each subject was introduced in review form by a few invited speakers and then discussed together with the contributed poster presentations. These discussion sessions chaired by selected scientists turned out to be the highlights of the meeting, not only because all the participants truly appreciated the possibility of an information exchange, but mainly because of the magnificent job done by the discussion chairmen, John A. Mydosh (Leiden), Martin Peter (Geneva) and Ken E. Gray (Argonne). First results on the just discovered Bi-superconductors and the clarification of electron resonance experiments on (123)-compounds should be mentioned in particular. The relaxed atomosphere favoring free discussions was certainly promoted by the surroundings offered in the Mauterndorf Castle, which dates back to 1253. Poster presentations and a conference banquet in historic knight's halls are certainly not found everyday in conference routines.

Book Physics and Materials Science of Vortex States Flux Pinning and Dynamics

Download or read book Physics and Materials Science of Vortex States Flux Pinning and Dynamics written by R. Kossowsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-04-30 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A discussion by an assembly of expert physicists and materials scientists, embracing the specific features of vortex-pin interactions, the modes of different kinds of vortex motion under the action of Lorenz force, and the mechanisms of dissipation. The effects of transport and screening currents, superimposed AC magnetic fields and the microwave electromagnetic irradiation on vortex behaviour define the electromagnetic properties of a high-Tc superconducting material. The mechanisms driving the depinning of vortices and the dynamics of their motion determine the critical current density and its file dependence, the mechanisms of energy dissipation, and linear and nonlinear resistivity, AC losses, and noise in electronic circuitry. The book therefore has direct implications for the development of new devices and components in electrical engineering, modern electronics, computer technology, and microwave communication.
