Book Anish Kapoor

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anish Kapoor
  • Publisher : Guggenheim Museum
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 136 pages

Download or read book Anish Kapoor written by Anish Kapoor and published by Guggenheim Museum. This book was released on 2008 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1980s, Anish Kapoor's investigations into objecthood, materiality and gravity have explored the concept of the void, or what he describes as "objects becoming space". His sculptures, installations and public art have been characterized by intensely tactile or reflective materials, including coloured pigments, wax, fibreglass, polished stainless steel and PVC, that resist any narrative reading. Deutsche Guggenheim's ambitious commission opens to the public in October 2008 and travels to New York in 2009. It is conceived as an intervention in the galleries that prevents any one complete viewing or experience of the work. Fabricated of Cor-Ten steel, with industrial hinges and flanges exposed, the work tests the boundaries between sculpture and painting, as one opening brings viewers into a cavernous, expansive paint field. This accompanying catalogue offers four points of entry into the work: through philosophy, postcolonial and architectural theory, and structural analysis, and is accompanied by preparatory sketches and architectural renderings.

Book Anish Kapoor my red homeland

Download or read book Anish Kapoor my red homeland written by Anish Kapoor and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anish Kapoor is one of the most influential sculptors of his generation. Kapoor sees his work as being engaged with deep-rooted metaphysical polarities: presence and absence, being and non-being, place and non-place, the solid and the intangible. Throughout Kapoor's sculptures his fascination with darkness and light is apparent; the translucent quality of the resin works, the absorbent nature of the pigment, the radiant glow of alabaster, and the fluid reflections of stainless steel and water. Through this interplay between form and light, Kapoor aspires to evoke sublime experiences, which address primal physical and psychological states. My Red Homeland presents a welcome retrospective view of Kapoor's work since the early 90s.

Book Anish Kapoor

Download or read book Anish Kapoor written by Rainer Crone and published by Prestel Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In a distinguished career spanning thirty years, Anish Kapoor has created an ambitious vocabulary of form manifested in sculptural installation and site-specific works. Using materials as wide-ranging as stone, steel, raw pigment, wax and resin, Kapoor confronts his viewer with both the depths of imagined space and the play of surface illusion. This volume surveys the totality of Kapoor's work, with specific focus on his recent installation Svayambh ('self-creation' in Sanskrit), in which a huge block of red wax travels slowly through the museum space, leaving traces of its passage on walls and doorways. The authors provide in-depth analyses of many of Kapoor's major works, placing them in historical and philosophical context, and offering new insights both into Kapoor's work and the wider context of contemporary sculpture." --Book Jacket.

Book Symphony for a Beloved Sun

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anish Kapoor's sculptures represent an important position in contemporary art. Born in Bombay in 1954 and living in London since the early 1970s, he combines Western and Eastern influences to create special work. He became famous with large-scale sculptures in public spaces, most recently on the occasion of the Olympic games in London in 2012. His multi awardwinning work (1991 Turner prize) has been exhibited worldwide since his first solo exhibition in 1980. The monograph gives a concentrated overview of his diverse oeuvre of the last 40 years, from the pigment works to the mirror works and large polished sculptures. In the main section, the temporary, site-related works in the Martin-Gropius-Bau, such as the "....." in the spectacular, central hall, are documented in sketches, models and installation photos. These new works, which impressively frame the architecture of the Martin-Gropius-Bau, are elaborately illustrated and elucidated.

The northern powerhouse is home to two rival gangs: 'The Maine Men' and 'The Devils'. When a drug deal goes wrong and Thoroughgood fails to stop it, a full-scale turf war is ready to take over Manchester - a city split into red and blue halves. Seconded into an undercover Greater Manchester Police unit led by the legendary DCI Marty Ferguson, an exiled Glasgow cop with a messianic presence, Thoroughgood soon finds that the drugs war is not the only battle being fought in the city. 'The Hammer' takes Thoroughgood out of the character's typical Scottish stomping grounds, with 1990s Manchester and a nightmare at the Theatre of Dreams forming the perfect backdrop for Mitchell's brand of gritty, high-octane crime writing.

Book Turning the World Upside Down

Book excerpt: The major outdoor sculptures by acclaimed London-based artist Anish Kapoor are currently on show in the beautiful settings of Kensington Gardens, sited to contrast and reflect the changing colours, foliage and weather. Despite their monumental scale, the works appear as pure reflection of their surroundings: the sky, trees, water, wildlife and changing seasons. The distortions in the works mirror-like surfaces call into question the viewers relationship to both the work itself and the surrounding environment. This catalogue of Kapoors installation is brilliantly illustrated with photographs of the works in situ. Book Art as Jewellery

Download or read book Art as Jewellery written by Louisa Guinness and published by Antique Collector's Club. This book was released on 2018 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The women in Man Ray's life, as well as his reverence for the female form more broadly, were reflected in his jewellery. He kept the wearer in mind with each piece; never impractical or obtrusive, his jewels played with illusion, language and form as he employed the medium to further explore the artistic preoccupations of his career." Art as Jewellery is a visually stunning introduction to jewellery made by the titans of twentieth and twenty-first century art. From Salvador Dali, Man Ray, Alexander Calder and Pablo Picasso, through to Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst and Grayson Perry, the great figures of modern art have all turned both thought and talent to jewellery. Often, they have eschewed the traditional jeweller's preoccupation with material value and provenance, more concerned with the conceptual or aesthetic significance of their work. As is fitting for a book that covers a range of artists, every image is as striking as it is unique. By using contemporary pictures, Art as Jewellery develops a chronological timeline of jewellery presentation. Its pages are home to a stunning variety of design sketches and photographs. Some were shot by renowned 20th century photographers, such as Ugo Mulas and Antonia Mulas, while others have been buried in archives for decades, unseen since the '60s. In contrast, modern works have been given model treatment by top photographer Alexander English, making this book a glamorous blend of new and classic jewellery art. AUTHOR: Author Louisa Guinness, collector and gallery owner, provides insightful commentary on each artist and their work. Her input can be felt on a personal level; having worked alongside many of these artists as they developed their jewellery, she is in the perfect position to reveal the personal stories behind these pieces creation. Full-page colour photographs and sketches, some showing the artist at work in the studio, or with their muse, accompany each profile. Louisa also explores each artist in the context of the genre's evolution, looking at the key exhibitions that have shaped the interest of artists and collectors. This book will be of interest to jewellery and art lovers alike. SELLING POINTS: * Includes an introduction by Vivienne Becker, an award-winning jewellery writer, and a contribution from Julia Peyton Jones, previous director of the Serpentine Gallery, London * A marvellous array of images, from archived photographs and sketches that have not been seen since the '60s, and the work of 20th-century photographers such as Ugo Mulas and Antonia Mulas, to modern shoots by Alexander English 200 colour images

Download or read book Empire and After written by Graham MacPhee and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing debate over British national identity, and the place of "Englishness" within it, raises crucial questions about multiculturalism, postimperial culture and identity, and the past and future histories of globalization. However, discussions of Englishness have too often been limited by insular conceptions of national literature, culture, and history, which serve to erase or marginalize the colonial and postcolonial locations in which British national identity has been articulated. This volume breaks new ground by drawing together a range of disciplinary approaches in order to resituate the relationship between British national identity and Englishness within a global framework. Ranging from the literature and history of empire to analyses of contemporary culture, postcolonial writing, political rhetoric, and postimperial memory after 9/11, this collection demonstrates that far from being parochial or self-involved, the question of Englishness offers an important avenue for thinking about the politics of national identity in our postcolonial and globalized world.

Book Narendra Modi

Download or read book Narendra Modi written by Andy Marino and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-04-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, is powerful, popular and controversial. With the general elections due to conclude in May 2014, Modi's campaign rallies have drawn unprecedented crowds. Yet, the man remains an enigma. His supporters regard him as the visionary, decisive leader India needs today. His detractors see him as a polarizing fi gure. Is Modi authoritative or authoritarian? Decisive or divisive? A team player or a loner? Andy Marino recorded interviews with Narendra Modi during more than half-a-dozen exclusive meetings - unprecedented access to a very private man. What emerged is this riveting, objective biography of a man who could be India's prime minister. Not shying away from the controversies that have dogged Narendra Modi, including the Gujarat riots and questions about the Gujarat model of governance and development, this political biography provides an unbiased account of possibly the most important figure in Indian politics today. Marino records hour-by-hour details of the 2002 Gujarat riots, presenting a balanced analysis of that raw wound on India's polity. It also reveals hitherto unpublished, authenticated documents, which makes this one of the most important books of 2014. The author analyses Narendra Modi's values, the people who shaped his thinking and the sort of national leader he will make. Personal details of Modi's early life, his wanderings in the Himalayas between the ages of seventeen and nineteen, his rise through the political ranks, his vision for India and his personal philosophy on religion and politics are revealed in a book that is lucid, fast-paced and readable. Narendra Modi: A Political Biography is an insightful, exhaustive and impeccably researched account of the ascent of a political leader.

Book Cities on the Move

Download or read book Cities on the Move written by Hanru Hou and published by Hatje Cantz. This book was released on 1997 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, the Asian megapolis is a reality that is reconfiguring both East and West, old world and new, and is as much a cultural phenomena as a demographic or architectural one. It is currently predicted that in the year 2000 there will be 15 cities in Asia with more than 15 million people each, and that more than 50 million will be living in the Tokyo-Osaka corridor. Cities on the Move is the first publication to confront this rapidly changing social, urban, and suburban landscape primarily from the point of view of those Asian artists, architects, and intellectuals who are currently already part of this emerging world. The result is a massive, kaleidoscopic volume which presents a multitude and variety of projects, plans, ideas, artworks, and observations which are not easily summarized. Like a documenta of the East, this book attempts nothing less than an expansive, inclusive forum and interchange -- an avant-garde symposium -- for those figures whose work by its very nature requires the contemplation of urban Asia.
