Book Animal Production Based on Crop Residues

Download or read book Animal Production Based on Crop Residues written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's population accounts for about 22 per cent of the world's total population, but the country has only seven per cent of global farmland. In order to ensure a sufficient food supply to feed its population, the Chinese government has explored the use of non-traditional feed resources. This publication looks at China's national programme (APCR) to establish an animal production system based on the use of crop residues such as wheat and rice straw, abundant and widely spread fodder resources, rather than using the grain supply. Over the last decade, this programme has been expanded to cover the rearing of beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats and buffalo; and has been regarded as the turning point to resolve the nation's feed problem.

Book excerpt: China is one of the world's largest developing agricultural countries and dominates the international livestock revolution in terms of its aggregate size and growth rate. While the sheep meat industry is still in the early stages of development, it is an excellent example of the upheaval taking place in Chinese agriculture. This book focuses on the growing sheep meat industry while drawing on associated research from other areas of the Chinese livestock section. Using this research, the authors use the sheep meat industry case study to illustrate the broader trends that apply more generally to the Chinese livestock sector, especially in the case of ruminant livestock.

Book Rural Development in China

Download or read book Rural Development in China written by Scott A. Waldron and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003. The greatest challenge facing China today is to curb the growing economic divide between urban and rural people. Achieving this requires that the rural economy in general, and rural industries in particular, transform rapid growth into sustained development. However, policy makers are struggling to modernise rural industries, such as the cattle and beef industry, especially in a way that contributes to rural incomes. This book provides a systematic, detailed and up-to-date analysis of how institutional and policy reforms impact on rural and industry development in China. Academics, policy-makers and others will find that this case study offers new insights into China’s rural economy, institutional change and transition process. It will also be of interest to those concerned with ways to develop livestock industries in a way that benefits rural communities.

Book Food Production in the People s Republic of China

Download or read book Food Production in the People s Republic of China written by Anthony M. Tang and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 1980 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A population of one billion people has the potential for enormous impact on the world food supply, but demographic and food production data for the People's Republic of China have been difficult to obtain. In an effort to fill this gap, two papers are presented which attempt ot synthesize and analyze as much information as is available and make predictions of probable trends in agriculture and related fields in the year 2000 and for the 1985 grain program. Records from 1952-77 are used to estimate cultivated land, animals, energy consumption, farm machinery, fertilizer, and output of grains, soybeans and cotton. The effects of industrailization and resources are considered. Trends are toward population control, although total demand will continue to grow; emphasis on agriculture seems to indicate that production will be capable of keeping up with demand, may result in some dietary improvement, but will not provide for emergency supplies.
