Approximately 7000 events were obtained in the center of mass angular range .95 greater than cos theta asterisk greater than -.97. The data show an approximately ex ponential diffraction peak which when extrapo lated to cos theta asterisk 1.0 is con sistent with the optical theorem prediction. A second peak, with a maximum of 23 mb/sr is seen at cos theta asterisk .2. The backward s ering is not isotropic, but drops smoothly from .12 mb/sr at cos theta asterisk 0 to about .01 mb/sr at the most backward angles. An analysis in terms of a simple diffraction model and a fit in powers of cos theta asterisk are given. (Author).

A search for the predicted large asymmetries at momentum transfers near the second minimum of the differential cross sections was also performed at several energies across the resonance. Most of the data have been analyzed. One, for T{sub {pi}} = 162 MeV, is currently in progress.
