Book Electron Photon Shower Distribution Function

Download or read book Electron Photon Shower Distribution Function written by H. Messel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron-Photon Shower Distribution Function: Tables for Lead, Copper and Air Absorbers presents numerical results of the electron-photon shower distribution function for lead, copper, and air absorbers. Electron or photon interactions, including Compton scattering, elastic Coulomb scattering, and the photo-electric effect, are taken into account in the calculations. This book consists of four chapters and begins with a review of both theoretical and experimental work aimed at deducing the characteristics of the cascade produced from the propagation of high energy electrons and photons through matter. The next two chapters discuss in some detail the method of simulating the electron-photon cascade on a digital computer and present the cross-sections for all processes that are simulated in the program written for the English-Electric-Leo KDF9. The manner in which each process is subjected to computer simulations is described. The results come from two computer programs: the first was written for SILLIAC and the second for KDF9. This monograph will be a valuable resource for computer scientists, mathematicians, and physicists.

Book Yield and Angular Distribution of Cerenkov Radiation from Extensive Air Showers

Download or read book Yield and Angular Distribution of Cerenkov Radiation from Extensive Air Showers written by HENRY. KASHA and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relative yield of Cerenkov radiation from extensive air showers and its angular distribution were measured as a function of the shower size in the range 40,000 to 2,000,000 particles. It was found that the larger showers are not as efficient in producing Cerenkov light signals as the smaller ones. The effect can be understood in light of the results on the angular distribution of Cerenkov radiation near the shower axis which was found to be more peaked fowards in larger showers. This result also leads to the conclusion that the angular distribution of electrons with energy> 21 mev near the axis of extensive air showers is dependent on the shower size. (Author).

Book Direct Photon Center of Mass Angular Distributions in p bar p Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Direct Photon Center of Mass Angular Distributions in p bar p Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The center-of-mass angular distribution of direct photon events, resulting from proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV, as measured by the Collider Detector at Fermi lab (CDF) during the 1988-1089 experimental run, is presented. The direct photon events are identified primarily through the direct photon's characteristic isolation from other particles. The main source of background is from rare fragmentation of QCD partons into single isolated neutral mesons, which decay into two or more photons. The background is removed statistically by exploitation of tile expected difference in the resulting shower profiles. The resulting angular distribution for direct photons, in the transverse momentum range from 22 to 45 Ge V is found to agree favorably with the predictions of Quantum Cbromodynamics (QCD) for an interaction with a fermion (spin 1/2) propagator.

Book The Center of mass Angular Distribution of Direct Photons at S 1 2

Download or read book The Center of mass Angular Distribution of Direct Photons at S 1 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of center-of-mass angular distribution of direct photons produced in p$\bar{p}$ collisions at √s = 1.8TeV with the D0 detector is described. The photons are detected and identified using a liquid argon calorimeter, with charged particle rejection provided by tracking chambers. The photons are restricted to the central region (n ≤ 0.75), but center-of-mass system for the hard scattering is reconstructed using the information from reconstructed jets. A method for avoiding possible bias due to edges of the calorimeter is presented. The background, due mainly to rare fragmentations of a jet into a leading neutral meson, are subtracted statistically using the expected variation in the longitudinal profile of the electromagnetic shower. The angular distribution in the range of [eta]* from 0 to 1.5 (cos [theta]* from 0 to 0.9) is compared to next-to-leading order QCD predictions, and found to be in good agreement.
