Book Anguished Echoes

Download or read book Anguished Echoes written by Christopher N. Nwachukwu and published by Author House. This book was released on 2009-03-12 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing poetry- especially this collection- ANGUISHED ECHOES -I am influenced by the perception that man is caught in a struggle with his own fear, pain, losses, mischievous surprises of Fate combined with the inhuman machinations of his kind to undo his Freewill. As man is cast on this solitary journey that must ultimately lead him to ash, dust or grave his compassion and his sense of sacrifice become even more profound. His storied redemption, that object of struggle between good and evil, produces conflicts that he must deal with or bear as he journeys on. These varied conflicts are hardly complete without their weird yet rich trappings. The nuances of physical and psychological conflicts are certainly delicate to capture by all seasoned and unseasoned poets alike. ANGUISHED ECHOES attempts this task boldly. Each poem -from beginning to the end-is part of that unwitting journey that has a shifting yet exciting aeshtetic destination. Each attempt at meaning- whatever that means- is both illusory and fulfilling. Some poems may dubiously yield to logical interpretation or explanation. Others serve to dig deeper into that ethreal journey, marking it as yet a way to denote meaning- if you will.I am enthralled to read again and again some poems like "Self,""The street is Empty,""We followed the Street," " When I behold ( a thing of Beauty) " among many other poems in this collection .Dont ask me why. Find out. .

Book excerpt: It wasn’t meant to be this way—she shouldn’t have fallen for my brother and left me for him. But she did. And now I’m left to pick up the pieces of my shattered, broken heart. And to top it off, they want me to come to their wedding. Do they think I’m a pushover? Do they think of me as a joke? The old saying stands true, ‘Why have enemies when you can have family.’ I understand it now, better than I ever have in my life. There’s one unexpected surprise though: Storm. She blew in just like one and makes the pain diminish. She’s exactly as her name describes her—she is a storm. A beautiful and powerful one. But not all things are meant to last. Like a storm that wreaks havoc, some things cause anguish, and in my life she may very well be one of them. *Can be read as a standalone*

Book excerpt: Twelve-year-old Bone uses her Gift, which allows her to see the stories in everyday objects, to try to figure out why her best friend, Will Kincaid, suddenly lost his voice at age five. This supernatural historical mystery is the second title in the acclaimed and emotionally resonant Ghosts of Ordinary Objects series. In a southern Virginia coal-mining town in October 1942, Bone Phillips is learning to control her Gift: Bone can see the history of a significant object when she touches it. When her best friend, Will Kincaid, asks Bone to "read" the history of his daddy's jelly jar--the jelly jar that was buried alongside his father during the mine cave-in that killed him--Bone is afraid. Even before Bone touches it, she can feel that the jar has its own strange power. With her mother dead, her father gone to war, and Aunt Mattie's assault looming over Bone, she can't bear the idea of losing Will too. As Will's obsession with the jelly jar becomes dangerous, Bone struggles to understand the truth behind the jar and save him Featuring a beautiful, compelling voice, this novel weaves a story of mystery, family, and ultimately, love.

Book The Anguished and the Enchanted

Download or read book The Anguished and the Enchanted written by Matthew H. Bowker and published by punctum books. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In The Anguished and the Enchanted, M.H. Bowker offers a lengthy critical essay and richly annotated English translation of a lost Finnish translation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince. Featuring a substantial Translator's Preface, M.H. Bowker develops a psychoanalytic lens through which to regard Saint-Exupéry's classic work, offering a more nuanced and less ""fable-esque"" text than any translation and interpretation to date. On Bowker's reading, dark and primitive unconscious forces -- including neglect and abuse at home, the hatred of maturation and development, the projection of feelings of worthlessness onto others, the creation of an absurd and futile world, and more -- infest the story, not unlike the Baobab trees dreaded by the little prince. Those already familiar with The Little Prince will find in The Anguished and the Enchanted a new way of regarding what has perhaps become a favorite or even a beloved book. Those unfamiliar with the original work will discover a sometimes tragic, sometimes sympathetic, sometimes harrowing account of the lengths to which persons will go in their struggle to find -- or to escape from -- meaningful places for themselves in the world of adults."

Download or read book Echoes of a Whisper written by Mwangwegho, Lughano and published by Langaa RPCIG. This book was released on 2017-04-11 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lugano Mwangwegho's Echoes of a Whisper is an imaginative array of poetic verse steeped in Africa and tackling the fraught space of being betwixt and between, within and without, memory and the present. Love runs avidly as a theme throughout and imagery thereof is at once beautiful and absurd, adding further to a sense of suspension, a sense of unease. Mwangwegho's poetry is edgy: its colour is that of tension. Yet, in such a way it speaks to both mind and soul - in places it provokes both physical and emotional reaction from the reader and the empowerment it transfers is uncanny. As his second collection of poetry, Malawian poet and short story writer Lughano Mwangwegho once again offers here writing rich in anguish and loveliness.

Book excerpt: Speaking from their respective disciplines in the humanities, theology, and education, thirteen Holocaust scholars -- both Jewish and Christian -- candidly address the challenges, risks, and possibilities embedded in the discouraging, long-lasting Palestinian-Israeli conflict. They also sharply critique the use of Holocaust terminology or imagery by the modern-day combatants -- on either side -- as trivialization of a unique and devastating event. Anguished Hope casts a powerful vision for a more peaceful future in the Middle East.Contributors: Rachel N. Baum David Blumenthal Margaret Brearley Britta Frede-Wenger Myrna Goldenberg Peter J. Dismissive. I wonder if he has any feelings at all. And when his lips touch mine, everything goes black. He takes me into his world, and it’s the most magical thing I’ve ever experienced. And I’m sucked in time and time again. Like a moth to the flame, I am ready to be set alight. Elicea ‘F*cks With My Head’ Beckham Elicea is a firecracker. She has piqued my interest, and no one piques my interest anymore. Beautiful women are what I do—it’s my work. Not one of them has managed to get their claws into me the way she does. It’s as if she’s seeing my icy heart and trying to melt it, set it alight with each touch of her sinful lips. But that can’t work, it won’t work. Not in my world. BOOK 2 (ANGUISHED) It wasn’t meant to be this way—she shouldn’t have fallen for my brother and left me for him. But she did. And now I’m left to pick up the pieces of my shattered, broken heart. And to top it off, they want me to come to their wedding. Do they think I’m a pushover? Do they think of me as a joke?
