Download or read book Angler in India Or the Mighty Mahseer written by Skene Dhu and published by . This book was released on 2003-09-01 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author, in his preface, calls this book a charming treatise on Indian fishing and its object he says is to tell the newcomer to angling about some of the fish that he is likely to meet with. It is written "not for fame not for profit -- it was simply written for the pleasure of writing about angling...". It will remain an all-time favourite with anglers long after the twenty odd varieties of game fish so vividly described by Skene Dhu disappear from the threatened rivers of India.

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1903 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER I. ON SPORT GENERALLY AND FISHING IN PARTICULAR. QUT of all the young men who come to India for the first time how many bring out a rod? Almost all bring out guns or rifles with keen ideas of the sport to be their's when first they get leave, but for every twenty that bring out a gun, perhaps only one brings out a rod. And yet many of these men were keen enough fishermen at home. With some, it is the idea that having tasted the joys of salmon or trout fishing at home, there can be nothing here worthy of their skill. With others it is mere ignorance. No one has told them of the fine fish to be caught, while many have told them varied and exciting tales of tigers, bison and deer, and of the joys of pig-sticking. Personally I have been lucky enough to have had experience of most of the above sports, and--well comparisons are odious. There is a wild joy in being on a good horse, with a game old boar in front, and one lives a lifetime during that stern chase, and then that glorious moment when after many jinks and escapes, yours, the first spear goes well home, in a foe who is truly worthy of your steel. Then again is the moment of pure and holy joy that steals over one, when after following the tracks of a bison through dense jungle for the better part of the day, suddenly the old solitary bull appears before one, head in air sniffing the breeze and suspicious of danger, but not knowing where to look for it. Then your rifle rings out, he falls, rises again, and once more goes down to your second barrel, and a minute after you are admiring the massive frame, and splendid proportions, of perhaps the finest animal India has to offer in the way of "big game." But there is a joy of another sort, not to be beaten in pleasure and excitement...

Book Subhan and I My Adventures with Angling Legend of India

Download or read book Subhan and I My Adventures with Angling Legend of India written by Saad Bin Jung and published by Roli Books Private Limited. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set in the heart of Indian bush, Subhan and I is about angling for the hump-backed mahseer, the greatest fresh water fighting fish in the world, under the most harrowing circumstances, in a swim which many experts believe cannot hold big fish whilst others state that even if they were there landing them would be impossible. It is against this challenging backdrop, two men— Subhan and the author—from socially different backgrounds battle hard to outwit and land the elusive mahseer in the turbulent waters of River Cauvery. The book is not just a treasure trove of information on angling and life in the bush, it is also about the life and trials faced by the two men, lost in the madness of trying to save the mahseer against all odds. Of special interest to the readers will be the tips on angling. The many anecdotes related to the author’s family and life experiences lend the book its heart and soul. It also traces the position of the fish in history as it flirts with the Gods of our world. The book is a must-read for not only anglers but also wildlife enthusiasts.

Book Kabini And The Jungle Stories

Download or read book Kabini And The Jungle Stories written by AK SINGH and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2022-08-02 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the turn of the 19th century in India, more than a million wild animals were trounced under the barrel of the gun, bringing them almost to the brink of extinction. There began one of the most inspirational stories of the crusade from Karapore village at the Kabini river of Mysore in South India. An innovative style of protecting nature gives immense importance to the preservation of wilderness, changing the lives of the aborigines through an instrument of eco-tourism. The book charts the key moments in the fight to conserve the natural wealth of India, which has been the centre of admiration for maharajas, the cynosure of the eyes of all royal princes, eminent military officials and those who set on foot to India during the medieval period, embarking on a journey of incredible stories of wildlife sports such as hunting and shooting. The chronicle gives a fascinating picture of the success story of eco-tourism in Karnataka. It offers an atmospheric and entertaining account of the lives of Indian princes, early lifestyles of viceroys, kings, czars and sovereign monarchs with joyful hunting expeditions of emperors, maharajas and enjoyable sports of diplomats and bloodhound hunters, the British civil servants. In a most vivid and gripping style, the saga records the life of men who lived in the wilderness amidst tribes and aborigines and made them friends, which spread the message of the benevolence of human relationships, love and a deep affection for nature and natural resources. It is a captivating book packed with splendid quotes, entertaining anecdotes, chronicles of pre-independent, innovative, triumphant trials of Khedda operations in the princely states of Mysore and Hyderabad, absorbing tales of the wildlife of India and her natural splendours across the cultural diversity of various tribes, ethnicities and their virtues, beliefs and ethos.
