Book Angler Classic Reprint

Download or read book Angler Classic Reprint written by Izaak Walton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-05 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Izaak Walton's The Complete Angler is primarily a guide to fly fishing, however it is much more than just a fishing book. Within the pages of this text, the art of fishing is beautifully accompanied by poems, folklore and interesting anecdotes. Walton paints the picture of what it truly is to enjoy fishing - never claiming to be a master on the subject but encouraging the reader to embrace the sport wholeheartedly. Since its first publication in 1653, the book has been continually in print and is admired for inspiring the fisherman to love fishing for the sake of fishing. The Complete Angler is not only a definitive work on the subject of fishing but also an archaic example of the popular pastime. A brilliant read not only for the avid angler but also for those looking to glimpse through a window into a bygone era. It is still a highly relevant book but also a lovely piece of work. Book The Complete Angler Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Complete Angler Classic Reprint written by Izaac Walton and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-26 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Complete Angler Notes at the foot of the page are a horrible nuisance, distracting the attention of the reader to the greatest degree. It therefore seemed better to lump them together at the end of each chapter in the shape of an appendix, and the reader can please himself whether he refers to them or not. If he only desires to read the prose-poetry of the text, he can skip the chapters in smaller type and if he turns to the book for practical directions, he can look at the appendices only. The arrangement, therefore, is this: A chapter of the text, and then an appendix containing, first, Historical Notes, chie y from Hawkins, and referred to by the smaller letters in the text; secondly, General Nola by the Editor, referred to by numerals and third, a Praclz'cal Essay by the Editor. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practical Angler Another of our tasks was the preparation of ingredients for ren dering the baits more enticing to the fish, though I believe, after reading several receipts, and trying to prepare some of the pre scriptions, a small piece of camphor put into the moss with the worms was all that was ever actually carried into e 'ect. Then we were to have a small box with gimblet holes bored in it, in which a quantity of worms were to be placed, and when this box was sunk (a stone being put in it for the purpose) the worms, as a for lorn hope to escape drowning, it was supposed would crawl out through the holes, and so entice all the fish in the neighbourhood to the spot; to our certain benefit, as to their just as certain de struction. The worms also had to be dug (for we did not then even presume to think of y fishing) and kept in moss, which was to be managed to the very letter according to the directions laid down in Walton. Book Fishing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fishing Classic Reprint written by H. Cholmondeley-Pennell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fishing Probably few persons who visited the late International Fisheries Exhibition in South Kensington could fail to have been struck by the multiplicity, and, to the un initiated, complexity of the engines and appliances used in the capture of fish. The Observation applies even more to the 'angler' - a generic term that I have a special objection to, by the way, but let us say to the fisherman who uses a rod - than to the 'fisherman' proper, whose weapons are net and hand-line, and who 'occupies his business in great waters.' Book Notes and Reminiscences of My Life as an Angler Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes and Reminiscences of My Life as an Angler Classic Reprint written by William Henderson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes and Reminiscences of My Life as an Angler The following pages were written merely for the perusal of my children, in order to bring before them, as clearly and faithfully as possible, a picture of their father's life as an angler. When I became aware that many of my personal friends were also desirous to possess a record in which so many of their deeds with rod and line were inscribed together with my own, I yielded to a wish so flattering to myself, and the little work was printed for private circulation among them. The reception which it has met with from the many distin guished anglers whom I am proud to call my friends has been most gratifying, and I am accordingly emboldened to take a further step, and send it forth into the wide field of angling literature, there to abide the criticisms of the general public. During four years I steadily refused to take such a course, feeling persuaded that an autobiography of this character which detailed so many particulars relating to other persons, was more fitly restricted to a limited circle of readers. After however I had received eighty letters begging for its publi cation, together with a vast number of verbal requests, I yielded, in the hope that no one whose name is mentioned in its pages will be in the smallest degree wounded, and that the general reader will deal gently with the numerous deficiencies to which no one can be so keenly alive as the author.
