Book excerpt: ‘Recognizing the shared nature of my thoughts, I am determined to see. I would look upon the witnesses that show me the thinking of the world has been changed. I would behold the proof that what has been done through me has enabled love to replace fear, laughter to replace tears, and abundance to replace loss.’ (A Course in Miracles, Foundation for Inner Peace, 2007 ACIM, W-54.5:2-4) After two decades in the financial services industry, Wayne Renroc, worked his way up through the ranks into a leadership position at Pigeon Financial until he walked away from it all! Wayne had grown tired of the toxicity in the workplace. A self-serving, inept, and mindless leadership team at Pigeon Financial destroyed employee morale and fostered a growing dysfunction among peers which fueled his desire to move on. Managing with an iron fist in a self-serving, egotistical, and mindless approach to the workplace their toxic ways spread like a cancer. Like the disease, these tyrants are so stupid and self-centered, they will not only destroy the morale of their teams (healthy cells) but will ultimately destroy themselves and the entire organization (the host/body). This is a compelling glimpse into the corporate world bringing to the surface growing disconnects and dysfunction in the workplace. Assholes to Angels calls out the tyrants who remain in positions of leadership. The many parallels between behaviors on the playground during our childhood and behaviors in the boardroom during our adult years are brought to the surface. Readers will learn a new definition of success based on the words of Albert Einstein from a century ago. Finally, readers will discover a way to see the angel deep within each of us. Assholes to Angles was written to honor and celebrate the true leaders who have left the working world a better place. Instead of stepping on and over people to get ahead, true leaders show people how to stand on the shoulders of giants to succeed. www.tomcorner.net www.assholestoangels.com

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspiring and insightful, Our Better Angels: Seven Simple Virtues That Will Change Your Life and the World celebrates the shared principles that unite and enable us to overcome life’s challenges together. “When the waters rise, so do our better angels.”—President Jimmy Carter Jonathan Reckford, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity, has seen time and again the powerful benefits that arise when people from all walks of life work together to help one another. In this uplifting book, he shares true stories of people involved with Habitat as volunteers and future homeowners who embody seven timeless virtues—kindness, community, empowerment, joy, respect, generosity, and service—and shows how we can all practice these to improve the quality of our own lives as well as those around us. A Vietnam veteran finds peace where he was once engaged in war. An impoverished single mother offers her family’s time and energy to enrich their neighbors’ lives. A Zambian family of nine living in a makeshift tent makes room to shelter even more. A teenager grieving for his mother honors her love and memory by ensuring other people have a place to call home. A former president of the United States leads by example with a determined work ethic that motivates everyone around him to be the best version of themselves. These stories, and many others, illustrate how virtues become values, how cooperation becomes connection, and how even the smallest act of compassion can encourage actions that transform the world around us. Here are tales that will make readers laugh and cry and embrace with passion the calling of our better angels to change the way we take care of ourselves, our families, our communities, and the world.

Book From Angel to Office Worker

Download or read book From Angel to Office Worker written by Susie S. Porter and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2018-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In late nineteenth-century Mexico a woman's presence in the home was a marker of middle-class identity. However, as economic conditions declined during the Mexican Revolution and jobs traditionally held by women disappeared, a growing number of women began to look for work outside the domestic sphere. As these "angels of the home" began to take office jobs, middle-class identity became more porous. To understand how office workers shaped middle-class identities in Mexico, From Angel to Office Worker examines the material conditions of women's work and analyzes how women themselves reconfigured public debates over their employment. At the heart of the women's movement was a labor movement led by secretaries and office workers whose demands included respect for seniority, equal pay for equal work, and resources to support working mothers, both married and unmarried. Office workers also developed a critique of gender inequality and sexual exploitation both within and outside the workplace. From Angel to Office Worker is a major contribution to modern Mexican history as historians begin to ask new questions about the relationships between labor, politics, and the cultural and public spheres.

Book The Other 90

Download or read book The Other 90 written by Robert K. Cooper and published by Crown Currency. This book was released on 2010-02-10 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, it has been assumed that there are vast limits to human capacity. Now, although a host of scientific discoveries prove this wrong, a mindset of limits persists, blocking us from our greatest possibilities and leaving us feeling bombarded by stress, change, and uncertainty. No matter how hard we work, no matter how much we give, we're still not getting what we hoped for. There is another way. Dr. Robert Cooper, a neuroscience pioneer and leadership advisor, urges us to take a radically different view of human capacity. We are mostly unused potential, he says, employing less than 10 percent of our brilliance or hidden talents. In easy-to-follow steps, he explains how to develop and apply the art and science of your hidden capacity. The art is the motivation and inspiration coming from the wonderful stories that are the heart of The Other 90%. Dr. Cooper draws on his wide-ranging insights and experiences to show how it's possible to make a difference in yourself and others. However, inspiration without a way to turn vision into reality is an empty vessel. Combining art with science, Dr. Cooper provides extraordinary help in the form of specific, little-known practical ways to use the latest research in neuroscience, performance psychology, and work physiology for excelling in a pressure-filled world. He shows you how to: * Increase energy at work -- and have more energy for personal and family life. * Activate the brain's "alertness switches" to defeat pressure and stress. * Use not only the brain in your head but the ones in your heart and gut. * Motivate exceptional ingenuity and performance in yourself and others. The most exciting breakthroughs will not come from advances in technology but from a deeper realization of what it means to be most human and alive. Many of the choices that can dramatically change our lives are simple and practical -- yet few people know what these choices are or how to apply them in work and life. The Other 90% is your guide to new territory and new challenges.

This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WARNING! Don't read Weapon's Training for Spiritual Warfare and Frontline Ministry if you want to maintain the status quo! It may turn your world upside down by challenging the way you have always seen things! Spiritual Warfare is a very vague and nebulous term in many circles of Christendom. Many believers talk about it but don't really know what it is or how to successfully engage in it. Some are even afraid of, or at the least, uncomfortable with the subject. My purpose for Weapons Training for Spiritual Warfare and Frontline Ministry is to arm Christians with a working knowledge of how to engage our enemy in battle successfully, taking ground away from the demonic and bringing light into places previously occupied by darkness. God wants more than anything to see His church (His bride) walk in purity and victory, so I give the believer in Christ a working knowledge of the various spiritual weapons made available to them. I will teach you how to effectively employ these weapons. I will train you for war, so that you might gain the victory in your walk with God; win the lost out of darkness, and effectively destroy the works of the devil! In this way, you will begin to truly experience kingdom reality and dominion over the demonic. Moreover, you will start to be the change agent in your sphere of influence, as God uses you to advance His kingdom. This will bring a breakthrough in your life and in the lives of others, as you learn Weapons Training for Spiritual Warfare and Frontline Ministry.

Book excerpt: By the time you finish this book, the term "inanimate object" will no longer have a place in your vocabulary, for Shaun McNiff will awaken you to the wondrous energies streaming out of familiar things and bringing a sense of magic into everyday life. Join the author as he discovers the autonomous spirits of a silver Mercedes convertible, a mysterious cigarette burn on the dining room table, and the scary shadow of a tree outside a child's room. Contemplate with him the bleakness of a hotel conference room and the crucifix that hung over his childhood bed. Let him lead you on a field trip to the "unholy lands" of the shopping mall and faculty meeting, to the familiar spirits of his seaside New England homes, to the realm of dream, reverie, and memory, as he demonstrates how to connect with the life-giving energies of images and things, places and people. These are the earth angels—spirits of everyday life that call for the return of our lost soul to the world. Unlike the images of winged beings that now pervade popular culture, the earth angels also include the soul's unattractive messengers, whose mission may require offense, pain, or fear as a preparation for change and renewal. Does a Styrofoam cup have soul? McNiff says yes, for the most debased things show us that the presence of the divine depends upon the quality of attention that we bring to our experiences.
