Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intracranial aneurysm result from complex interactions between cerebrovascular anatomy, vascular injury, and adaptive remodeling of the arterial wall and represent a cerebrovascular disorder with the potential for substantial morbidity and mortality. Most intracranial aneurysms occur in the larger arteries near the skull base, in or around the circle of Willis, but variants may appear virtually anywhere in the cerebral vasculature. The aneurysm can leak or rupture, causing life-threatening bleeding, and is the most common cause of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage, the third most common form of stroke. Intracranial aneurysms affect about 1 in 10,000 people per year in the United States (approximately 27,000). Intracranial Aneurysms will address the natural history, biology, and basic management principles and treatment of aneurysms. The chapters also explore the unique features of each type or location of aneurysm while considering the medical, surgical, and endovascular options. Contributions are by members of the Endovascular Neurosurgery Research Group, a group of recognized expert neurosurgeons who specialize in cerebrovascular and endovascular management of aneurysms.

Book Giant Intracranial Aneurysms

Download or read book Giant Intracranial Aneurysms written by Naci Kocer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas focuses on the imaging and treatment options available for giant intracranial aneurysms since 1990s in the beginning of the so-called modern endovascular era. During this period, there were significant advances made in the therapy of small intracranial aneurysms though the treatment of giant aneurysms continued to pose an insurmountable challenge. At the turn of this century, this grim scenario gradually improved with better understanding of the pathophysiology of giant intracranial aneurysms. This changed scenario in giant intracranial aneurysm therapy has been illustrated with the aid of informative clinical case studies. The clinical presentation of giant aneurysms in adults and children is described as are the merits of different imaging modalities explained and illustrated. Extensive consideration has been given to modern fusion imaging that has improved our insight into the nature of the disease. Endovascular treatment approaches (including illustrative open surgical approaches) and reconstructive and deconstructive strategies are fully documented, with careful attention given to factors that influence management strategies, treatment choice and complications. The atlas will be a valuable reference and practical aid for neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, fellowship trainees, postgraduate & graduate students.

Book Atlas of Sellar and Parasellar Lesions

Download or read book Atlas of Sellar and Parasellar Lesions written by Gabriel Zada and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents, in a stepwise and interactive fashion, approximately 75 cases that reflect the wide spectrum of pathology encountered in this region. Each case description commences with a concise clinical scenario. High-quality radiologic, laboratory, and histopathologic images depicting the differentiating features of the lesion subtype in question are then presented, and key operative and clinical management pearls are briefly reviewed. The interdisciplinary nature of this easy-to-use color atlas and textbook reflects the fact that the management of patients with sellar and parasellar lesions is itself often interdisciplinary. The format is unique in that no similar interdisciplinary book is available on lesions of this region of the brain. Atlas of Sellar and Parasellar Lesions: Clinical, Imaging, and Pathologic Correlations is of great value for practitioners and trainees in a range of medical specialties, including radiology, neurology, endocriniology, pathology, oncology, radiation oncology, and neurosurgery.

Book Consults in Obstetric Anesthesiology

Download or read book Consults in Obstetric Anesthesiology written by Suzanne K. W. Mankowitz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text addresses the need for a book specifically aimed at obstetric anesthesia and covers topics such as pulmonary, cardiac renal, hepatic, hematologic, neurologic, endocrine and other diseases. The real anesthetic challenge arises when patients present to Labor and Delivery with unusual or complicated medical problems and, in recent years, a few of the larger institutions have developed an Obstetric Anesthesiology Consultation Service to prepare for the management of these patients. While most pregnant women who present to Labor and Delivery require anesthetic intervention, they typically meet the anesthesiologist for the first time in labor. Since the majority of laboring women are healthy without significant comorbidities, this does not present much of a challenge to the anesthesiologist and the anesthetic management tends to be straight-forward with favorable outcomes. However, using this new model, the anesthesiologist has the opportunity to discuss the various treatment modalities and potentially suggest diagnostic testing to be performed prior to delivery, similar to the pre-operative testing that is done in other surgical environments.
