Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth of an economy depends upon a multiplicity of factors such as the rate of capital formation, rate of growth of population, efficiency of the money and capital markets, availability of the required quantum and type of labour force, availability of natural resources, economic and political stability, administrative efficiency, role of social and cultural values, development of means of transport and communications, rise in standard of health and education etc., of all the factors which are affecting the rate of growth of an economy in developing countries is the capital accumulation. Further it is accepted by all the economists who are concerned with this problem that the capital accumulation plays a predominant role for economic growth of any country. Hence, economic growth is a direct function of the rate of capital formation and the experiences of advanced countries reveal that they could achieve economic growth through well developed capital markets.
Download or read book Public Enterprise at the Crossroads written by John Heath and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many parts of the world public enterprise is in crisis. Privatisation programmes are being widely touted as the solution to many of the problems of inefficiency and slow rates of growth associated with public enterprise. This book discusses the underlying causes of those problems, and critically examines some of the solutions that have been adopted. Its geographical coverage is wide and it cuts across the political spectrum. The experiences of countries in four continents are analysed in an attempt to shed light on current dilemmas. Recurrent patterns are found; problems are frequently seen to be political as much as economic, and bureaucracy and administrative confusion is often found to be at the heart of poor financial performance.Yet since political aims, economic environment, and administrative and managerial capabilities vary so widely, universal solutions remain more difficult to define than universal problems.

Download or read book State Business Relations and Economic Development in Africa and India written by Kunal Sen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the state and business interact effectively they can promote a more efficient allocation of scarce resources, appropriate industrial policy and a more effective and prioritised removal of key obstacles to growth, than when the two sides fail to co-operate or engage in harmful collusion. This book, based on original empirical research undertaken in Africa and India, addresses what constitutes the effectiveness of state-business relations, what explains their formation and evolution over time and whether effective state-business relations matter for economic performance. Analysing the effects of state-business relations on economic performance at both the macro and micro levels, the book concludes that where effective state-business relations are established – either through formal or informal institutional patterns and relationships – the growth effects are generally positive. Establishing, sustaining and renewing effective state-business relations are political processes. The better organized the business community and the government are for purposes of such relations, the more effective state-business relations will be in negotiating growth enhancing policies. The book is of interest to researchers in the fields of development studies, management, economics and political science.
