Download or read book Summary of Hugh L Mills Jr Robert A Anderson s Low Level Hell written by Everest Media, and published by Everest Media LLC. This book was released on 2022-06-04T22:59:00Z with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The scout and gun team would check the highway up to An Loc, and the scout would check the area near the highway. One night, I saw two dark brown eyes staring up at me from a hole dug into the ground. I flew over the area and saw footprints leading to a drainage ditch that stretched for nearly a mile. #2 The head of the convoy was just seconds away from an ambush when the Loach pilot flew right into it. The enemy opened fire on the convoy, and Parker and the helicopter pilot flew right through it. #3 The battle between Charlie and the convoy continued with ferocity. The enemy’s RPGs did the most damage. Once a vehicle was disabled with rocket fire, the automatic weapons would open fire. The key was to break free of the killing zone and accelerate out of the ambush area. #4 I made my first pass from south to north right down on the deck ten to fifteen yards out from the highway. I keyed Sinor with a report that the enemy force had been severely damaged. I saw forty to fifty bodies strewn around, many body parts, and numerous blood trails and drag marks.

Book excerpt: The Bristish artist duo Anderson & Low has created a highly original art project based on the brilliant artifice of the spectacular sets from the latest James Bond movie, Spectre. Shooting entirely at Pinewood Studios, UK, the artist duo highlights a head-on collision of fantasy and reality by photographing the sets' massive scale and extraordinary detail. Allowing the bare soundstage to intrude on the images would normally shatter the illusion of the sets. In this case, however, it has the reverse effect and enhances the sense of illusion, artifice and wonder. Through a poetic and painterly eye, the beautifully designed and magnificently photographed images bring to life these detailed and massive tableaux, creating a poetry and narrative fantasy that mirrors the movie. This book represents a unique study in movie-making and constructed narratives in photography. Exhibition: Camera Work, Berlin 24.6.-27.8.2016

Book 50 Years of Anderson Localization

Download or read book 50 Years of Anderson Localization written by Elihu Abrahams and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-06-25 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his groundbreaking paper ?Absence of diffusion in certain random lattices (1958)?, Philip W Anderson originated, described and developed the physical principles underlying the phenomenon of the localization of quantum objects due to disorder. Anderson's 1977 Nobel Prize citation featured that paper, which was fundamental for many subsequent developments in condensed matter physics and technical applications. After more than a half century, the subject continues to be of fundamental importance. In particular, in the last 25 years, the phenomenon of localization has proved to be crucial for the understanding of the quantum Hall effect, mesoscopic fluctuations in small conductors, some aspects of quantum chaotic behavior, and the localization and collective modes of electromagnetic and matter waves. This unique and invaluable volume celebrates the five decades of the impact of Anderson localization on modern physics. In addition to the historical perspective on its origin, the volume provides a comprehensive description of the experimental and theoretical aspects of Anderson localization, together with its application in various areas, which include disordered metals and the metal?insulator transition, mesoscopic physics, classical systems and light, strongly-correlated systems, and mathematical models. The volume is edited by E Abrahams, who has been a contributor in the field of localization. A distinguished group of experts, each of whom has left his mark on the developments of this fascinating theory, contribute their personal insights in this volume. They are: A Amir (Weizmann Institute of Science), P W Anderson (Princeton University), G Bergmann (University of Southern California), M Bttiker (University of Geneva), K Byczuk (University of Warsaw & University of Augsburg), J Cardy (University of Oxford), S Chakravarty (University of California, Los Angeles), V Dobrosavljevi? Book Anderson Low

Book excerpt: Victor, Colorado - the City of Mines - boomed when a prospector found gold. People flocked to the town to find their fortunes and its population skyrocketed. An area which had once been isolated ranching country was totally transformed. The gold is now long gone but Victor, with its current population of only 450, still echoes this history. Anderson & Low discovered it 15 years ago and its sense of being outside of time has drawn them back repeatedly. Their photographs make for a disarmingly intimate and moving study of a small American town.

Book excerpt: The aeroscouts of the 1st Infantry Division had three words emblazoned on their unit patch: Low Level Hell. It was then and continues today as the perfect concise definition of what these intrepid aviators experienced as they ranged the skies of Vietnam from the Cambodian border to the Iron Triangle. The Outcasts, as they were known, flew low and slow, aerial eyes of the division in search of the enemy. Too often for longevity’s sake they found the Viet Cong and the fight was on. These young pilots (19-22 years old) “invented” the book as they went along. Praise for Low Level Hell “An absolutely splendid and engrossing book. The most compelling part is the accounts of his many air-to-ground engagements. There were moments when I literally held my breath.”—Dr. Charles H. Cureton, Chief Historian, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine (TRADOC) Command “Low Level Hell is the best ‘bird’s eye view’ of the helicopter war in Vietnam in print today. No volume better describes the feelings from the cockpit. Mills has captured the realities of a select group of aviators who shot craps with death on every mission.”—R.S. Maxham, Director, U.S. Army Aviation Museum
