Book Andante Cantabile for String Orchestra

Download or read book Andante Cantabile for String Orchestra written by John M Laverty and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-19 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This arrangement for string orchestra of Andante Cantabile is taken from Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No. 1 in D, movement 2 (1871). An elegant and moving work, when performed at a concert to celebrate Russian author Leo Tolstoy, it was noted by Tchaikovsky that Tolstoy wept at the end of the movement. In addition to the original string quartet version, Andante Cantabile is often performed as a stand alone string orchestra work or for solo cello and string orchestra. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the string quartet was a rarely used form in 19th-century Russia, Tchaikovsky and Borodin both produced superb, inventive compositions in the genre. Tchaikovsky's "String Quartet No. 1" in D, Op. 11, is notable for its imaginative freshness and world-famous "Andante cantabile" movement. His "Quartet No. 2" in F, Op. 22, displays remarkable fluency and skilled craftsmanship, while "Quartet No. 3" in F-flat Minor, Op. 30, combines austerity with deeply felt intensity and vigor. Borodin's two string quartets are characterized by his impeccable craftsmanship and expert understanding and use of his instruments. The popular "String Quartet" No. 2 is especially known for the luxuriant richness of its third movement "Nocturne." Now all five works are available in this handsome, inexpensive edition. Reprinted from authoritative scores.

Book None But the Lonely Heart for Cello Ensemble 8 Cellos Score and Parts

Download or read book None But the Lonely Heart for Cello Ensemble 8 Cellos Score and Parts written by and published by . This book was released on 2019-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Peermusic Classical). Program Notes: "None But The Lonely Heart" is a song from Tchaikovsky's Six Romances, Op. 6 for voice and piano. The song is a setting in Russian translation of Goethe's poem "Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt," which has attracted many composers, most famously Franz Schubert. This is my second orchestration of music by Tchaikovsky, the first being Andante Cantabile from his String Quartet No. 1. I tried to make these transcriptions sound as if they had been orchestrated by the composer himself - as is also the case with my transcriptions of music by Rachmaninoff, Janacek, Bizet, and Revueltas. This is my natural tendency, following the spirit ofthe music. Jose Serebrier Comments: Orchestrated from Tchaikovsky's Six Romances, Op. 6, No. 6

Book Tchaikovsky

Download or read book Tchaikovsky written by Roland John Wiley and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2009-09-10 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A giant in the pantheon of 19th century composers, Tchaikovsky continues to enthrall audiences today. From the Nutcracker--arguably the most popular ballet currently on the boards--Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty, to Eugene Onegin and Pique Dame, to the Symphony Pathetique and the always rousing, canon-blasting 1812 Overture--this prolific and beloved composer's works are perennial favorites. Now, John Wiley, a renowned Tchaikovsky scholar, provides a fresh biography aimed in classic Master Musicians style at the student and music lover. Wiley deftly draws on documents from imperial, Soviet, and post-Soviet era sources, providing a more balanced look at recent controversies surrounding the marriage, death, and sexuality of the composer. The author dovetails the biographical material with separate chapters that treat the music thoroughly and fully, work-by-work, with more substantial explorations of Tchaikovsky's most familiar compositions. These analyses present new, even iconoclastic perspectives on the music and the composer's intent and expression. Several informative appendices, in the Master Musicians format, include an exhaustive list of works and bibliography.
