Book And You Thought Accounting Was Boring

Download or read book And You Thought Accounting Was Boring written by Edward Gotbetter CPA and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08-16 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was a labor of love to create my memoirs of my experiences as a Certified Public Accountant. I wanted my children, grandchildren and hopefully future great grandchildren to have a record of my life and the trials, tribulations and joys that I have had during my lifetime. They already have a record of my experiences during the Second World War and this memoir should fill in any of the gaps in my life. Included in my memoir are a number of my clients experiences and my relationship with them. I have genuinely enjoyed my chosen profession, including the few bumps along the road that I have included in this memoir. I feel proud that I had the guts to quit ajob and branch out on my own with my wife and family by my side.

Download or read book Tetralogue written by Timothy Williamson and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2015-02-12 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four people with radically different outlooks on the world meet on a train and start talking about what they believe. Their conversation varies from cool logical reasoning to heated personal confrontation. Each starts off convinced that he or she is right, but then doubts creep in. In a tradition going back to Plato, Timothy Williamson uses a fictional conversation to explore questions about truth and falsity, and knowledge and belief. Is truth always relative to a point of view? Is every opinion fallible? Such ideas have been used to combat dogmatism and intolerance, but are they compatible with taking each opposing point of view seriously? This book presupposes no prior acquaintance with philosophy, and introduces its concerns in an accessible and light-hearted way. Is one point of view really right and the other really wrong? That is for the reader to decide.

Book excerpt: All accountants, whether in commerce, industry, government, the not-for-profit sector or the accounting profession, must change significantly to remain relevant by becoming commercial, value adding business partners. This book shows how. Accountants' worlds are changing fast, so much so that in a few years' time accountants as we know them today may not even exist, for two reasons. Firstly, accountancy often tops the list of professions facing automation; it is likely that computers rather than accountants will count the beans in the near future. Secondly and fortuitously, to help them thrive businesses need their accountants to work closely with business managers to improve commercial outcomes, to transform into valued business partners. But to be valued business partners, accountants must change and upskill. They must build on their accounting and financial expertise to thoroughly understand their business and industry, develop and use their commercial acumen to identify and implement business initiatives, learn how to analyse and communicate proactively and quickly and know how to partner with business managers at all levels competently. For those accountants who make this transformation the future is bright with fulfilling and stimulating carers awaiting them, but the future for those who don't is bleak. This book is a practical guide for accountants to transform themselves into valued business partners. It is essential reading for all accountants.
