Book Ancient Hindu Science

Download or read book Ancient Hindu Science written by Alok Kumar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To understand modern science as a coherent story, it is essential to recognize the accomplishments of the ancient Hindus. They invented our base-ten number system and zero that are now used globally, carefully mapped the sky and assigned motion to the Earth in their astronomy, developed a sophisticated system of medicine with its mind-body approach known as Ayurveda, mastered metallurgical methods of extraction and purification of metals, including the so-called Damascus blade and the Iron Pillar of New Delhi, and developed the science of self-improvement that is popularly known as yoga. Their scientific contributions made impact on noted scholars globally: Aristotle, Megasthenes, and Apollonius of Tyana among the Greeks; Al-Biruni, Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Labban, and Al-Uqlidisi, Al-Ja?iz among the Islamic scholars; Fa-Hien, Hiuen Tsang, and I-tsing among the Chinese; and Leonardo Fibbonacci, Pope Sylvester II, Roger Bacon, Voltaire and Copernicus from Europe. In the modern era, thinkers and scientists as diverse as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Gottfried Herder, Carl Jung, Max Müller, Robert Oppenheimer, Erwin Schrödinger, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Henry David Thoreau have acknowledged their debt to ancient Hindu achievements in science, technology, and philosophy. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the largest scientific organizations in the world, in 2000, published a timeline of 100 most important scientific finding in history to celebrate the new millennium. There were only two mentions from the non-Western world: (1) invention of zero and (2) the Hindu and Mayan skywatchers astronomical observations for agricultural and religious purposes. Both findings involved the works of the ancient Hindus. The Ancient Hindu Science is well documented with remarkable objectivity, proper citations, and a substantial bibliography. It highlights the achievements of this remarkable civilization through painstaking research of historical and scientific sources. The style of writing is lucid and elegant, making the book easy to read. This book is the perfect text for all students and others interested in the developments of science throughout history and among the ancient Hindus, in particular.

Book Echoes of Ancient Indian Wisdom

Download or read book Echoes of Ancient Indian Wisdom written by Shantha N. Nair and published by Pustak Mahal. This book was released on 2008 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The echoes of ancient Indian wisdom can be heard from the oldest of scriptures that existed many years ago. Even thousands of years before they were written down on palm leaves, the teachings were passed on from generations to generations, from the teachers to the disciples in their oral form. These works are amongst the oldest of humanity. They laid the foundation of one of the most tolerant and diverse religions in the world, the Sanatan Dharma or Hinduism, which is marked by a wide range of ethos and philosophical approaches. Covering the vastness and immensity of the ancient Indian scriptures is akin to capturing a gigantic ocean in a small pitcher. Thus, in this book, the author has tried to catch a few 'echoes' resonating with age-old wisdom and has presented them to the readers. the book unravels the knowledge hidden inside the Samhitas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads of the Shruti that form the Vedas, and in the Smriti like Agamas, Dharma Shastras and so on. In short, it provides a glimpse, or rather a macro view of the ancient treasure of India.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this pathbreaking book, the authors show that the ancient Indians were no primitives but possessed a high spiritual culture, which not only influenced the evolution of the Western world in decisive ways but which still hs much to teach us today. India's archaic spirituality is codified in the rich symbols, metaphors and myths of the magnificent Rig-Veda, which is shown to be much older than has been widely assumed by scholars. The present book also unravels the astonishing mathematical and astronomical code hidden in the Vedic hymns. Anyone interested in ancient cultural history, India, archaeo-astronomy or spirituality will find this well researched and cross-cultural work spellbinding and enriching.

Book Gravity s Forgotten Pioneer The Untold Story of Brahmagupta

Download or read book Gravity s Forgotten Pioneer The Untold Story of Brahmagupta written by ASHISH KUMAR and published by ASHISH KUMAR. This book was released on 2023-09-06 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the annals of scientific history, certain names loom large—Galileo, Kepler, and Newton—pioneers whose contributions to our understanding of the universe are celebrated and revered. But there is a forgotten genius, an ancient Indian astronomer whose name has been consigned to the shadows of time—Brahmagupta. "Brahmagupta: The Ancient Indian Astronomer Who Discovered Gravity" is a journey through time, a rediscovery of a thinker whose insights into the mysteries of the cosmos remain woefully underappreciated. In this meticulously researched book, we unveil the untold story of Brahmagupta and his profound contributions to our understanding of gravity. Brahmagupta lived in a world where the heavens held profound significance, where mathematics and astronomy were deeply intertwined with philosophy and spirituality. It was in this context that he dared to grapple with one of the universe's greatest enigmas—gravity. His work predated that of Isaac Newton by over a millennium, yet his insights into this fundamental force were nothing short of revolutionary. "Unveiling Ancient Wisdom, Redefining Modern Science" is not just a historical account but an exploration of the enduring relevance of Brahmagupta's work. We delve into the heart of his mathematical genius, his meticulous astronomical observations, and the profound philosophical underpinnings that guided his inquiries. But this book is more than a biography; it is a celebration of the timeless human quest for knowledge. It's an invitation to journey through the corridors of scientific history, to embrace the interconnectedness of human thought across cultures and eras, and to recognize the significance of each piece in the grand mosaic of knowledge. As we traverse the landscapes of ancient India and modern science, we rediscover the forgotten genius who discovered gravity, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western perspectives. We honor Brahmagupta's legacy and acknowledge the universal nature of human curiosity. Through this book, we illuminate the pathways of discovery, seeking clarity and understanding in a world filled with cosmic mysteries. Join us on this intellectual odyssey, where we celebrate Brahmagupta, an ancient luminary whose brilliance continues to shine through the ages, and where we rekindle our own innate curiosity, seeking truth and wisdom in the timeless pursuit of knowledge.
