Book Social Accounting Systems

Download or read book Social Accounting Systems written by Louis Filler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social accounting grew up as a result of the desire to bring together in a meaningful and comprehensive manner all the available observed facts on the economic and financial activity of a nation. Three social accounting systems of flow have been developed during the last three decades. Each of these systems has been constructed separately and independently. The framework of each system is constructed to tackle specific aspects of the national economy. It is also designed in a manner, which helps in framing policies for future activity. The aim of this book is mainly to describe the anatomy of these three social accounting systems and compare their structures. Some attention is also given to a comparison of the systems in actual use by some industrially developed countries, including the centralized economies. The problem of integrating the three systems is also cursorily treated. The student of economics, and the economist in the service of industry, private or public, will obtain from this book a picture of the concepts and: definitions used in social accounting; the book also describes how each system is constructed, and which economic study or analysis it can best serve. Another valuable feature is the comparison the author makes of the national accounts system with the Russian "Natsional'ny Dokhod." In this far-reaching and complex work, the author has brought together the fruits of his very extensive studies into the social accounting methods of many nations, and he goes beyond the analysis of existing systems to suggest ways of tackling the problems of integrating the three main systems into one. Dr. Yanovsky is at present senior economist in the State Comptroller's Office in Israel. He studied economics in the Universities of Chicago and Manchester (where he obtained his doctorate at the Department of Economics and Social Studies in 1963). It was from a thesis he wrote while in Manchester that he drew the inspiration, and much of the material, for

Book Social Accounting Systems

Download or read book Social Accounting Systems written by F. Thomas Juster and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Accounting Systems: Essays on the State of the Art contains essays prepared during a workshop aimed at the development and promulgation of objectives for future work on social accounting, and the making of recommendations to achieve them by evaluating existing demographic and time-based accounting models. The essays describe and evaluate the state of the art of extant empirically based approaches to social accounting. The book opens with an overview chapter that describes the organizations of the Workshop on Social Accounting Systems at which the essays were presented and discussed, the nature of the tasks assigned to authors, and the major themes of workshop discussions. This is followed by separate chapters on time-based social accounting systems and demographic accounting; how subjective social indicators can be related to social accounting systems; and general evaluations of the systems described in the previous chapters. This book will be primarily of interest to social scientists and statisticians concerned with the development and integration of national data systems and with social indicator analyses. They also will be germane to the interests of students of contemporary social change and the quality of life.

Book excerpt: Non-Invasive Imaging of Atherosclerosis is a primer, reference and review of some of the key features of current activities in the field of atherosclerosis. The Editors' goal is to provide material and stimulating ideas to basic scientists and clinical researchers in order to extend the application of vascular imaging and to further develop methods suitable for investigation of the arterial wall. The first section presents current knowledge about pathology, vascular mechanics and compensatory mechanisms active during atherogenesis. It explores the early lesion, complications of plaques and early detection of plaques. Section II reviews several key methodological issues of B-mode ultrasound imaging and some of the most current data. Quantitative B-mode ultrasound is an established non-invasive tool widely used in large epidemiologic studies and interventional clinical trials of atherosclerosis. The last section addresses the most promising areas of development in vascular imaging. This involves new techniques to evaluate the atherosclerotic bed, to follow atheroma progression/regression and to evaluate vascular mechanics in atherosclerotic arteries. The last chapter places the application of non-invasive imaging in perspective.

Book Understanding and Interpreting Economic Structure

Download or read book Understanding and Interpreting Economic Structure written by Geoffrey J.D. Hewings and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1976, volume 116 of the Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems appeared in the library of the University of Illinois. The title of the book, Input-Output Analysis and the Structure of Income Distribution was sufficiently intriguing to one of the present editors (Hewings) to command attention. Some years later, during the First World Congress of the Regional Science Association in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1980, Madden and Batey presented some of their work using their now familiar demographic-economic modeling system. Discussion ensued about the relationship between this system, Miyazawa's formulation and the social accounting matrices most closely associated with the work of Stone. During a year's residence at the University of Illinois, Batey was able to produce a valuable typology of multipliers that began the process of integrating these several modeling systems into a coherent package. Thereafter, a number of regional scientists have exploited the ideas and insights proposed by Miyazawa, especially the notion of the interrelational income multiplier and the ideas of internal and external multipliers.

Book Social Structure and Behavior

Download or read book Social Structure and Behavior written by Robert M. Hauser and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Structure and Behavior: Essays in Honor of William Hamilton Sewell is a collection of 16 essays dealing with the social psychological aspects of schooling and achievement, social stratification and mobility, measurements and methods, and social structures and wellbeing. The collection discusses the political dimension of stratification, the results of observation of first-graders in their reading group assignments against their social background, and stereotyping practices held by dominant groups of society. Anther papers use a causal model to analyze occupational status and earnings of Cuban exiles in the U.S.; other authors discuss the effects of institutionalization of formal employment in Brazil, and propose a revision of the Duncan Scale by a more comprehensive set of occupational prestige scale. The book also analyzes measurements of ranked preferences using a single latent factor behind the ranked items. One authors points that some sociological terms can be misleading in propounding a sound theory when these terms themselves confound what they are supposed to correlate. The text also addresses the fundamental problems concerning welfare that include order, collective action, and consensus. This collection of essays can interest social workers, sociologists, psychologists, and researchers involved in community development.
