Book Techniques in Neuroanatomical Research

Download or read book Techniques in Neuroanatomical Research written by C. Heym and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Anatomy is the mother of physiology" - this statement was used to characterize the evolution of physiology from anato my as an independent science in the late nineteenth century. It had particular truth for neurophysiology, which started as functional neuroanatomy based on the observation of changes in behaviour after lesions of the nervous system both in ex perimental animals and in human patients. Today, anatomy may again be considered the mother of physiology; however, the meaning of this statement is rather different from that 100 years ago: The modem mother provides a dwelling for an increasing number of children endowed with new functional capabilities. This book provides a good illustration of such se mantic metamorphosis in the case of neuroanatomy. After a long period of little progress in either macroscopic neuroanatomy or neurohistology, during which the heritage of Cajal, Golgi, and others was developed and refined to yield a functional concept of the nervous system, the past two de cades have seen tremendous progress in methods applicable to the analysis of the nervous system. The new era was heralded by the introduction of the electron microscope to investigate the nervous system. This book is an impressive witness to the more recent developments.

Book Neuroanatomical Research Techniques

Download or read book Neuroanatomical Research Techniques written by Richard T. Robertson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuroanatomical Research Techniques discusses developments in major neuroanatomical research techniques. The book is organized into four parts. Part I deals generally with the preparation and study of brain tissue. It includes a chapter on the microscope, discussing optical magnification, limitations of microscopy, and optical contrasting methods. Other chapters summarize basic techniques for tissue preparation and sectioning; present guidelines for a number of standard, but essential, staining procedures; and present sophisticated and contemporary computer techniques that are proving to be invaluable as neuroanatomy evolves from a qualitative to a quantitative discipline. Part II deals with techniques often used for the study of normal tissue. These include the Golgi method, fluorescence histochemistry, techniques for staining single neurons, and the use of the electron microscope. Part III presents techniques for studying intrinsic connections of the nervous system. These include techniques for silver impregnation of degenerating fibers; autoradiographic technique for studying axonal projections; and somatopetal movement of horseradish peroxidase as a tool for studying connections and neuron morphology. Part IV discusses the interpretation of results from neuroanatomical research techniques and presents examples of the applications of neuroanatomical methods to major problems in physiological psychology.

Experimental and Clinical Reconstructive Microsurgery draws on the experience of a large number of experts in the areas of experimental microsurgery, limb and digit replantation, and composite tissue transplantation. The result is an extensive monograph covering the history and future prospects of microsurgery, essential microsurgical techniques for laboratory research, and the fundamental methods of harvesting tissues and their grafting techniques. Because the field of microsurgery includes a broad range of clinical disciplines, this book is a valuable resource to all orthopedic, traumatic, and plastic surgeons with an interest in microsurgery.

Book Anatomical Imaging

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hideki Endo
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2009-02-05
  • ISBN : 4431769331
  • Pages : 150 pages

Download or read book Anatomical Imaging written by Hideki Endo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-05 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents selected works of contemporary evolutionary morphologists and includes such topics as broad scale reconstructions of the brain and ear of dinosaurs, inference of locomotor habits from cancellous bone architecture in fossil primates, and a comparison of the independently evolved manipulating apparatuses in the lesser and giant pandas. Insight is provided into the application of modern noninvasive technologies, including digital imaging techniques and virtual 3D reconstruction, to the investigation of complex anatomical features and coherences. In combination with traditional methods, this allows for the formulation of improved hypotheses on coordinated function and evolution. The creation of virtual translucent specimens makes it possible to realize the age-old dream of the classical anatomists: looking through the skin into the inner organization of an organism. On full display here is the dramatic and promising impact that modern imaging techniques have on scientific progress in evolutionary morphology.

Book Anatomy for Diagnostic Imaging E Book

Download or read book Anatomy for Diagnostic Imaging E Book written by Stephanie Ryan and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2011-12-02 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the normal anatomy of the human body as seen in the entire gamut of medical imaging. It does so by an initial traditional anatomical description of each organ or system followed by the radiological anatomy of that part of the body using all the relevant imaging modalities. The third edition addresses the anatomy of new imaging techniques including three-dimensional CT, cardiac CT, and CT and MR angiography as well as the anatomy of therapeutic interventional radiological techniques guided by fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT and MR. The text has been completely revised and over 140 new images, including some in colour, have been added. A series of ‘imaging pearls’ have been included with most sections to emphasise clinically and radiologically important points. The book is primarily aimed at those training in radiology and preparing for the FRCR examinations, but will be of use to all radiologists and radiographers both in training and in practice, and to medical students, physicians and surgeons and all who use imaging as a vital part of patient care. The third edition brings the basics of radiological anatomy to a new generation of radiologists in an ever-changing world of imaging.
