Download or read book Analysis And Synthesis Of Computer Systems 2nd Edition written by Erol Gelenbe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-04-14 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis and Synthesis of Computer Systems presents a broad overview of methods that are used to evaluate the performance of computer systems and networks, manufacturing systems, and interconnected services systems. Aside from a highly readable style that rigorously addresses all subjects, this second edition includes new chapters on numerical methods for queueing models and on G-networks, the latter being a new area of queuing theory that one of the authors has pioneered. This book will have a broad appeal to students, practitioners and researchers in several different areas, including practicing computer engineers as well as computer science and engineering students./a

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Automated Technology for Veri?cation and Analysis (ATVA) international symposium series was initiated in 2003, responding to a growing interest in formal veri?cation spurred by the booming IT industry, particularly hardware design and manufacturing in East Asia. Its purpose is to promote research on automated veri?cation and analysis in the region by providing a forum for int- action between the regional and the international research/industrial commu- ties of the ?eld. ATVA 2005, the third of the ATVA series, was held in Taipei, Taiwan, October 4–7, 2005. The main theme of the symposium encompasses - sign, complexities, tools, and applications of automated methods for veri?cation and analysis. The symposium was co-located and had a two-day overlap with FORTE 2005, which was held October 2–5, 2005. We received a total of 95 submissions from 17 countries. Each submission was assigned to three Program Committee members, who were helped by their subreviewers, for rigorous and fair evaluation. The ?nal deliberation by the P- gram Committee was conducted over email for a duration of about 10 days after nearly all review reports had been collected. In the end, 33 papers were - lectedforinclusionintheprogram.ATVA2005hadthreekeynotespeechesgiven respectively by Amir Pnueli (joint with FORTE 2005), Zohar Manna, and Wo- gang Thomas. The main symposium was preceded by a tutorial day, consisting of three two-hour lectures given also by the keynote speakers.
Download or read book An analysis of central processor scheduling in multiprogrammed computer systems digest edition written by Stanford University. Computer Science Department and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple finite source model is used to gain insight into the effect of central processor scheduling in multiprogrammed computer systems. CPU utilization is chosen as the measure of performance and this decision is discussed. A relation between CPU utilization and flow time is developed. It is shown that the shortest-remaining-processing-time discipline maximizes both CPU utilization and I/O utilization for the queueing model M/G/1/n. An exact analysis of processor utilization using shortest-remaining-processing-time scheduling for systems with two jobs is given and it is observed that the processor utilization is independent of the form of the processing time distribution. The effect of the CPU processing time distribution on performance is discussed. The results are used to compare several scheduling disciplines of practical interest. An approximate expression for CPU utilization using shortest-remaining-processing-time scheduling in systems with N jobs is given. (Modified author abstract).

Book excerpt: This book presents revised versions of tutorial lectures given at the IEEE/CS Symposium on modeling, analysis, and simulation of computer and telecommunication systems held in Orlando, FL, USA in October 2003. The lectures are grouped into three parts on performance and QoS of modern wired and wireless networks, current advances in performance modeling and simulation, and other specific applications of these methodologies. This tutorial book is targeted to both practitioners and researchers. The practitioner will benefit from numerous pointers to performance and QoS issues; the pedagogical style and plenty of references will be of great use in solving practical problems. The researcher and advanced student are offered a representative set of topics not only for their research value but also for their novelty and use in identifying areas of active research.
