Download or read book Data Sharing and Data Partnerships for Highways written by Kevin E. Heanue and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2000 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to DOT administrators, supervisors, and staff, as well as to the consultants that work with them. Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) regional and local agency staffs might also find it informative. The synthesis was initiated in response to a recommendation made during the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) Reassessment, which was undertaken by the FHWA in 1997/1998 to expand data sharing and partnering more widely among states, MPOs, and local governments. It documents current arrangements among state DOTs, MPOs, and other local and regional agencies to partner in the collection and share in the use of HPMS data. Key elements examined include institutional arrangements, the use of data and data sharing, cost and resource requirements, technical capabilities/barriers, implementation processes, and data quality and capability, as well as successes, failures, and difficulties. Case studies of successful state and MPO partnerships are included.

Transportation Research Board and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2000 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two conferences on Refocusing Transportation Planning for the 21st Century were held in 1999 following passage of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21). The first conference focused on the identification of key trends, issues, and general areas of research. The results of Conference I, which produced stand-alone products, were used as input for Conference II. The second conference had the specific objective of producing research problem statements. Its mission was to review the results of the first conference by developing these statements. Conference II produced a number of detailed research statements that form the basis for the National Agenda for Transportation Planning Research. The proceedings of both conferences are presented in this report.
Download or read book Performance Based Planning and Programming Guidebook written by Michael Michael Grant and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-06-06 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ICF International and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Federal Transit Administration (FTA), along with experts from the transportation industry, collaborated to produce the Performance-Based Planning and Programming Guidebook. Over the past two decades, transportation agencies have increasingly applied performance management-a strategic approach that uses performance data to support decisions to help achieve desired performance outcomes. Performance-based planning and programming (PBPP) refers to the application of performance management within planning and programming processes of transportation agencies to achieve desired performance outcomes for the multimodal transportation system. This guidebook describes the PBPP process and provides examples of effective practices to help practitioners advance these approaches in their own planning and programming activities.
Download or read book Performance based Measures in Transit Fund Allocation written by Robert G. Stanley and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to transit practitioners and transportation professionals, including technical and research staff, as well as those working with them, with regard to the use of performance measures for the allocation of financial assistance to local transit agencies. The synthesis explores current perspectives, practices, and experiences. It focuses primarily on the extent to which traditional measures of transit performance such as internal measures of economic efficiency, service effectiveness, and productivity are used in allocating funds to transit. The report summarizes the experiences of a variety of transit agencies. In addition, it sought to capture key perspectives of transit and transportation professionals on the relationship between system performance and funding decisions and to identify barriers to more extensive use of performance measures in the allocation of funds for public transportation.
