Book Analytical Investigation of the Burning Mechanism of Solid Rocket Propellants

Download or read book Analytical Investigation of the Burning Mechanism of Solid Rocket Propellants written by T. P. Torda and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ultimate goal of the investigation is the evolution of a time-dependent theory for the erosive burning of solid rocket propellants. The approach taken involves the use of a fluid dynamic model for the combustion zone. Attention is confined to a laminar-flow, steady-state model with simplified reaction kinetics. However, the analysis is formulated so that subsequent inclusion of time variable phenomena and more sophisticated chemistry will present no essential difficulty, other than increased complexity.

Book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research

Download or read book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research written by M. Summerfield and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The annual report highlights the progress being made on several concurrent solid propellant combustion mechanism researches. Studies of nitrocellulose-base propellants have produced a broad range of experimental results for platonized and unplatonized propellants. The corresponding mathematical models consider the flame zone processes controlling temperature sensitivity, extinguishment limits, and burning rate. The analytical studies of ignition and burning of porous propellants are producing good agreement with data, new insights into the combustion processes, and establishing regimes where steady-state burning rates are achievable. The work of nonsteady burning has progressed to the point that rocket motor transients can be predicted and dynamic burning rates in a variable throat area, low L* motor can be measured; this work has progressed from the research phase to the development stage. Sub- micron pyrophoric aluminum is being investigated as a means of increasing propellant burning rate.

Book Initiation Mechanisms of Solid Rocket Propellant Detonation

Download or read book Initiation Mechanisms of Solid Rocket Propellant Detonation written by Hyla S. Napadensky and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanisms which may lead to detonation initiation in solid rocket propellants due to accidentally applied low amplitude stimuli are studied. In particular, the effects of low speed impact are studied. A two- dimensional Lagrangian computer code is used to study the detailed hydrodynamic (or elastic-plastic) and thermodynamic behavior of propellant materials under impact conditions. It was found that only moderate temperature increases are generated in unconfined impact of a cylindrical material billet upon a rigid surface. When a second boundary is introduced, i.e., the material is at rest on a rigid base and is impacted by a rigid plate, the temperatures developed under certain conditions exceed the values achieved in unconfined impact by more than a factor of two.

Book Theory of Solid Propellant Nonsteady Combustion

Download or read book Theory of Solid Propellant Nonsteady Combustion written by Vasily B. Novozhilov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite significant developments and widespread theoretical and practical interest in the area of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion for the last fifty years, a comprehensive and authoritative text on the subject has not been available. Theory of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion fills this gap by summarizing theoretical approaches to the problem within the framework of the Zeldovich-Novozhilov (ZN-) theory. This book contains equations governing unsteady combustion and applies them systematically to a wide range of problems of practical interest. Theory conclusions are validated, as much as possible, against available experimental data. Theory of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion provides an accurate up-to-date account and perspectives on the subject and is also accompanied by a website hosting solutions to problems in the book.

Book Propulsion Re Entry Physics

Download or read book Propulsion Re Entry Physics written by Michał Lunc and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propulsion Re-Entry Physics deals with the physics of propulsion re-entry and covers topics ranging from inductive magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) propulsion systems to launch systems and orbiting maneuvering systems. Problems of re-entry aerodynamics are considered, along with interaction problems in hypersonic fluid dynamics. Comprised of 31 chapters, this volume begins with a detailed account of the quasi-steady adiabatic vaporization and subsequent exothermic decomposition of a pure monopropellant spherical droplet in the absence of free and forced convection. The discussion then turns to results of calculations on MPD machines working in the intermittent and in the continuous mode; inductive plasma accelerators with electromagnetic standing waves; and spherical rocket motors for space and upper stage propulsion. Subsequent chapters focus on pulsed plasma satellite control systems; drag and stability of various Mars entry configurations; hypersonic laminar boundary layers around slender bodies; and effects of an entry probe gas envelope on experiments concerning planetary atmospheres. This book will appeal to students, practitioners, and research workers interested in propulsion re-entry and the accompanying physics.

Book The Dynamics of Solid Propellant Combustion

Download or read book The Dynamics of Solid Propellant Combustion written by Luigi De Luca and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonlinear stability analysis of solid rocket propellant burning was carried out, within the framework of a thermal theory for thin (quasi-steady gas phase) heterogeneous flames. This required an integral method in reducing the partial differential equation for the condensed phase heat conduction to an approximate ordinary differential equation. A nonlinear algebraic function, called static restoring function, was found that contains all basic properties of equilibrium and stability of burning solid propellants. This function depends on the nature of the solid propellant (including its flame) and the operating conditions. Analysis of the static restoring function reveals the existence of lower and upper burning stabilities. Nonlinear static and dynamic burning stability boundaries were determined and stability properties of several unsteady flame models were compared. Domains of stationary reacting solutions, damped oscillatory burning, self-sustained oscillatory burning, non sustained burning were singled out. Pressure deflagration limit was evaluated. Validity and plausible extensions of this theory are discussed. Most of the analytical predictions were verified by computer simulated burning tests. Experimental results obtained in shock tube apparatus, depressurization strand burner, laser doppler velocimetry rig are presented. (Author).

Book Combustion Mechanisms of Solids

Download or read book Combustion Mechanisms of Solids written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made of combustion mechanisms of composite solid rocket propellants, using the sandwich burning method to minimize the statistical aspects of experimentation and interpretation of results inherent in propellant studies. The results provide a more clear picture of the complex combustion process than has been possible previously. Because of the importance of knowledge of the decomposition mechanisms of individual propellant ingredients at combustion zone temperatures, a combination of facilities was planned for studies of this subject. The primary effort under the contact was development of a new thermal analysis instrument that can measure weight change as a function of time while heating a sample at 100C/sec. Heating may be done by laser, furnace, or radio frequency induction. The test sample is deposited on the free end of a rod that vibrates during a test, and mass change is determined by recording the change in vibration frequency of the rod. Results are reported comparing the decomposition behavior of two propellant binders as measured by this high rate thermogravimetric analyzer and a conventional TGA.
