Book Analysis of the Three dimensional Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer on a Sharp Cone at Incidence in Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book Analysis of the Three dimensional Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer on a Sharp Cone at Incidence in Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow written by John C. Adams and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical approach toward numerical calculation of the three-dimensional turbulent boundary layer on a sharp cone at incidence under supersonic and hypersonic flow conditions is presented. The theoretical model is based on implicit finite-difference integration of the governing three-dimensional turbulent boundary-layer equations in conjunction with a three-dimensional scalar eddy-viscosity model of turbulence. Comparison is made of present theory with detailed experimental measurements of the three-dimensional turbulent boundary-layer structure (velocity and temperature profiles), the surface streamline direction (obtained via an oil-flow technique) and surface heat-transfer rate.

Book Analysis of Post support and Wind tunnel Wall Interference on Flow Field about Subsonic High lift High speed Research Configuration

Download or read book Analysis of Post support and Wind tunnel Wall Interference on Flow Field about Subsonic High lift High speed Research Configuration written by Wendy B. Lessard and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study was performed to determine how significant the interference effects of the wind-tunnel model support system and tunnel walls can be for a high-speed configuration during takeoff and landing conditions. A 5-percent scale model of the Technology Concept Airplane was recently tested in the Langley 14- by 22-Foot Subsonic Tunnel. The model was numerically modeled with and without the support and tunnel walls and compared with experimental data. Detailed analysis of the flow provided additional insight concerning what effects the postsupport and tunnel walls had on the flow field. This study revealed that although the overall forces and moments could be experimentally accounted for, the detailed flow features, such as the surface pressure distributions, could not be accurately simulated without including the post in the computations.

Book Investigation of Flow Fields Within Large scale Hypersonic Inlet Models

Download or read book Investigation of Flow Fields Within Large scale Hypersonic Inlet Models written by A. Vernon Gnos and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical and experimental investigations were conducted to determine the internal flow characteristics in model passages representative of hypersonic inlets for use at Mach numbers to about 12. The passages were large enough to permit measurements to be made in both the core flow and boundary layers. The analytical techniques for designing the internal contours and predicting the internal flow-field development accounted for coupling between the boundary layers and inviscid flow fields by means of a displacement-thickness correction. Three large-scale inlet models, each having a different internal compression ratio, were designed to provide high internal performance with an approximately uniform static-pressure distribution at the throat station. The models were tested in the Ames 3.5-Foot Hypersonic Wind Tunnel at a nominal free-stream Mach number of 7.4 and a unit free-stream Reynolds number of 8.86 X one million per meter.
