Book Combustion Processes in Propulsion

Download or read book Combustion Processes in Propulsion written by Gabriel Roy and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2006 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical propulsion comprises the science and technology of using chemical reactions of any kind to create thrust and thereby propel a vehicle or object to a desired acceleration and speed. Cumbustion Processes in Propulsion focuses on recent advances in the design of very highly efficient, low-pollution-emitting propulsion systems, as well as advances in testing, diagnostics and analysis. It offers unique coverage of Pulse Detonation Engines, which add tremendous power to jet thrust by combining high pressure with ignition of the air/fuel mixture. Readers will learn about the advances in the reduction of jet noise and toxic fuel emissions-something that is being heavily regulated by relevant government agencies. Lead editor is one of the world's foremost combustion researchers, with contributions from some of the world's leading researchers in combustion engineering Covers all major areas of chemical propulsion-from combustion measurement, analysis and simulation, to advanced control of combustion processes, to noise and emission control Includes important information on advanced technologies for reducing jet engine noise and hazardous fuel combustion emissions

Book Combustion of Liquid Fuel Sprays

Download or read book Combustion of Liquid Fuel Sprays written by Alan Williams and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion of Liquid Fuel Sprays outlines the fundamentals of the combustion of sprays in a unified way which may be applied to any technological application. The book begins with a discussion of the general nature of spray combustion, the sources of liquid fuels used in spray combustion, biomass sources of liquid fuels, and the nature and properties of fuel oils. Subsequent chapters focus on the properties of sprays, the atomization of liquid fuels, and the theoretical modeling of the behavior of a spray flame in a combustion chamber. The nature and control of pollutants from spray combustion, the formation of deposits in oil-fired systems, and the combustion of sprays in furnaces and engines are elucidated as well. The text is intended for students undertaking courses or research in fuel, combustion, and energy studies.

Book Turbulence in Porous Media

Download or read book Turbulence in Porous Media written by Marcelo J.S. de Lemos and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-06-25 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulence in Porous Media introduces the reader to the characterisation of turbulent flow, heat and mass transfer in permeable media, including analytical data and a review of available experimental data. Such transport processes occurring a relatively high velocity in permeable media are present in a number of engineering and natural flows. This new edition features a completely updated text including two new chapters exploring Turbulent Combustion and Moving Porous Media. De Lemos has expertly brought together a text that compiles, details, compares and evaluates available methodologies for modelling and simulating flow, providing an essential tour for engineering students working within the field as well as those working in chemistry, physics, applied mathematics, and geological and environmental sciences. Brings together groundbreaking and complex research on turbulence in porous media Extends the original model to situations including reactive systems Now discusses movement of the porous matrix

Book Kinetics of Crude oil Combustion in Porous Media Interpreted Using Isoconversional Methods

Download or read book Kinetics of Crude oil Combustion in Porous Media Interpreted Using Isoconversional Methods written by Murat Cinar and published by Stanford University. This book was released on 2011 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One method to access unconventional, heavy-oil and natural bitumen resources as well as waterflood residual oil is to apply in situ combustion (ISC) to oxidize in place a small fraction of the hydrocarbon thereby providing heat to reduce oil viscosity and pressure that enhances recovery. ISC is also attractive because it provides the opportunity to upgrade oil in-situ by increasing the API gravity and decreasing, for instance, sulfur content. Experimental analysis of crude-oil oxidation kinetics provides parameters, such as activation energy, for modeling and optimization of ISC processes. The complex nature of petroleum as a multi-component mixture and multi-step character of oxidation reactions complicates substantially the kinetic analysis of crude-oil. Isoconversional techniques provide model-free methods for estimating activation energy and naturally deconvolve multi-step reactions. In addition, isoconversional methods are also useful as a screening tool to recognize the burning characteristics of different oils. By using experimentally determined combustion kinetics of different oil samples along with combustion tube results, we show that isoconversional analysis of ramped temperature oxidation data is useful to predict combustion-front propagation. It also provides new insight into the nature of the reactions occurring during ISC. Ramped temperature oxidation (RTO) tests with effluent gas analysis are conducted to probe ISC reaction kinetics along with isothermal coke formation experiments. The role of oxygen during coke formation reactions (i.e., fuel formation for ISC) is investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of intermediate reaction products. The XPS data is analyzed along with companion RTO experiments to obtain a simplified multi-step reaction scheme. Synthetic cases illustrate the connection between a proposed reaction scheme for oil/matrix pairs and one-dimensional combustion front propagation. Analysis of experimental results illustrate that the reaction scheme is capable of reproducing experimental results including the basic trends in oxygen consumption and carbon oxides production for RTO experiments as a function of heating rate for both good and poor ISC candidates. The combination of XPS and RTO studies indicates that the quality (or reactivity) of coke formed during the process is a function of oxygen presence/absence.
