Book Analysis and Testing of High Entrainment Single Nozzle Jet Pumps with Variable Mixing Tubes

Download or read book Analysis and Testing of High Entrainment Single Nozzle Jet Pumps with Variable Mixing Tubes written by Kenneth E. Hickman and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical model was developed to predict the performance characteristics of axisymmetric single-nozzle jet pumps with variable area mixing tubes. The primary flow may be subsonic or supersonic. The computer program uses integral techniques to calculate the velocity profiles and the wall static pressures that result from the mixing of the supersonic primary jet and the subsonic secondary flow. An experimental program was conducted to measure mixing tube wall static pressure variations, velocity profiles, and temperature profiles in a variable area mixing tube with a supersonic primary jet. Static pressure variations were measured at four different secondary flow rates. These test results were used to evaluate the analytical model. The analytical results compared well to the experimental data. Therefore, the analysis is believed to be ready for use to relate jet pump performance characteristics to mixing tube design.

Book Pipe Flow

Download or read book Pipe Flow written by Donald C. Rennels and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pipe Flow Provides detailed coverage of hydraulic analysis of piping systems, revised and updated throughout Pipe Flow: A Practical and Comprehensive Guide provides the information required to design and analyze piping systems for distribution systems, power plants, and other industrial operations. Divided into three parts, this authoritative resource describes the methodology for solving pipe flow problems, presents loss coefficient data for a wide range of piping components, and examines pressure drop, cavitation, flow-induced vibration, and other flow phenomena that affect the performance of piping systems. Throughout the book, sample problems and worked solutions illustrate the application of core concepts and techniques. The second edition features revised and expanded information throughout, including an entirely new chapter that presents a mixing section flow model for accurately predicting jet pump performance. This edition includes additional examples, supplemental problems, and a new appendix of the speed of sound in water. With clear explanations, expert guidance, and precise hydraulic computations, this classic reference text remains required reading for anyone working to increase the quality and efficiency of modern piping systems. Discusses the fundamental physical properties of fluids and the nature of fluid flow Demonstrates the accurate prediction and management of pressure loss for a variety of piping components and piping systems Reviews theoretical research on fluid flow in piping and its components Presents important loss coefficient data with straightforward tables, diagrams, and equations Includes full references, further reading sections, and numerous example problems with solution Pipe Flow: A Practical and Comprehensive Guide, Second Edition is an excellent textbook for engineering students, and an invaluable reference for professional engineers engaged in the design, operation, and troubleshooting of piping systems.

Book Analytical and Experimental Investigation of an Efficient Viscous Pump

Download or read book Analytical and Experimental Investigation of an Efficient Viscous Pump written by Marlene Elise Mainland and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A viscous pump design is developed and investigated which is more efficient than a viscous pump previously introduced (Etsion and Yaier, 1988). The key to the new design is straight lobes (V-lobes) as opposed to the semicircular lobes of the previous design. The straight lobe analysis, unlike the semicircular lobe analysis, does not produce a closed form solution. Approximations are made that are verified using shape factors and finite element models. Based on the analyses, the lobe geometry for each lobe design is optimized to produce maximum pumping capacity. The results of the analyses and optimizations, which are based on ideal boundary conditions, show that the straight lobe pump is theoretically superior to the semicircular lobe pump. A test rig was devised to test the semicircular lobe and the V-lobe design using a real time data acquisition system. The results of the experiments prove that the V-lobe is superior to the semicircular lobe. The experimental results showed good agreement with the analytical predictions, though some deviations were experienced at relatively low flow rates and high pressures. The deviations were attributed to the fact that the test pump did not have the ideal boundary conditions on which the analysis and optimization were based. Alternate boundary conditions were investigated using finite element models which better described the boundary conditions in the test pump. The analysis based on the new boundary conditions more appropriate to the test pump show excellent agreement with the experimental results.
