Book Singularities of Mappings

Download or read book Singularities of Mappings written by David Mond and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first monograph on singularities of mappings for many years, this book provides an introduction to the subject and an account of recent developments concerning the local structure of complex analytic mappings. Part I of the book develops the now classical real C∞ and complex analytic theories jointly. Standard topics such as stability, deformation theory and finite determinacy, are covered in this part. In Part II of the book, the authors focus on the complex case. The treatment is centred around the idea of the "nearby stable object" associated to an unstable map-germ, which includes in particular the images and discriminants of stable perturbations of unstable singularities. This part includes recent research results, bringing the reader up to date on the topic. By focusing on singularities of mappings, rather than spaces, this book provides a necessary addition to the literature. Many examples and exercises, as well as appendices on background material, make it an invaluable guide for graduate students and a key reference for researchers. A number of graduate level courses on singularities of mappings could be based on the material it contains.

Book Lectures on Complex Analytic Varieties MN 14 Volume 14

Download or read book Lectures on Complex Analytic Varieties MN 14 Volume 14 written by Robert C. Gunning and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a sequel to Lectures on Complex Analytic Varieties: The Local Paranwtrization Theorem (Mathematical Notes 10, 1970). Its unifying theme is the study of local properties of finite analytic mappings between complex analytic varieties; these mappings are those in several dimensions that most closely resemble general complex analytic mappings in one complex dimension. The purpose of this volume is rather to clarify some algebraic aspects of the local study of complex analytic varieties than merely to examine finite analytic mappings for their own sake. Originally published in 1970. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the decade and a half that has elapsed since the intro duction of principal functions (Sario [8 J), they have become impor tant tools in an increasing number of branches of modern mathe matics. The purpose of the present research monograph is to systematically develop the theory of these functions and their ap plications on Riemann surfaces and Riemannian spaces. Apart from brief background information (see below), nothing contained in this monograph has previously appeared in any other book. The basic idea of principal functions is simple: Given a Riemann surface or a Riemannian space R, a neighborhood A of its ideal boundary, and a harmonic function s on A, the principal function problem consists in constructing a harmonic function p on all of R which imitates the behavior of s in A. Here A need not be connected, but may include neighborhoods of isolated points deleted from R. Thus we are dealing with the general problem of constructing harmonic functions with given singularities and a prescribed behavior near the ideal boundary. The function p is called the principal function corresponding to the given A, s, and the mode of imitation of s by p. The significance of principal functions is in their versatility.

Book The Kernel Function and Conformal Mapping

Download or read book The Kernel Function and Conformal Mapping written by Stefan Bergman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1950-03 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kernel Function and Conformal Mapping by Stefan Bergman is a revised edition of ""The Kernel Function"". The author has made extensive changes in the original volume. The present book will be of interest not only to mathematicians, but also to engineers, physicists, and computer scientists. The applications of orthogonal functions in solving boundary value problems and conformal mappings onto canonical domains are discussed; and publications are indicated where programs for carrying out numerical work using high-speed computers can be found. The unification of methods in the theory of functions of one and several complex variables is one of the purposes of introducing the kernel function and the domains with a distinguished boundary. This approach has been extensively developed during the last two decades. This second edition of Professor Bergman's book reviews this branch of the theory including recent developments not dealt with in the first edition. The presentation of the topics is simple and presupposes only knowledge of an elementary course in the theory of analytic functions of one variable.

Book Jordan Triple Systems in Complex and Functional Analysis

Download or read book Jordan Triple Systems in Complex and Functional Analysis written by José M. Isidro and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a systematic account of the impressive developments in the theory of symmetric manifolds achieved over the past 50 years. It contains detailed and friendly, but rigorous, proofs of the key results in the theory. Milestones are the study of the group of holomomorphic automorphisms of bounded domains in a complex Banach space (Vigué and Upmeier in the late 1970s), Kaup's theorem on the equivalence of the categories of symmetric Banach manifolds and that of hermitian Jordan triple systems, and the culminating point in the process: the Riemann mapping theorem for complex Banach spaces (Kaup, 1982). This led to the introduction of wide classes of Banach spaces known as JB∗-triples and JBW∗-triples whose geometry has been thoroughly studied by several outstanding mathematicians in the late 1980s. The book presents a good example of fruitful interaction between different branches of mathematics, making it attractive for mathematicians interested in various fields such as algebra, differential geometry and, of course, complex and functional analysis.

Download or read book Symplectic Geometry written by Carl Ludwig Siegel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symplectic Geometry focuses on the processes, methodologies, and numerical approaches involved in symplectic geometry. The book first offers information on the symplectic and discontinuous groups, symplectic metric, and hermitian forms. Numerical calculations are presented to show the values and transformations of these groups. The text then examines the fundamental domain of the modular group and the volume of the fundamental domain of the modular group. Equations and matrices are provided to show the fundamental domain and volume of the fundamental domain of the modular group. The publication ponders on commensurable groups and unit groups of quinary quadratic forms. Numerical analyses are also offered to show the values and characteristics of commensurable and unit groups. The text is a helpful reference for researchers interested in symplectic geometry.

Book Hyperbolic Manifolds And Holomorphic Mappings An Introduction Second Edition

Download or read book Hyperbolic Manifolds And Holomorphic Mappings An Introduction Second Edition written by Shoshichi Kobayashi and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2005-11-02 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this influential book, published in 1970, opened up a completely new field of invariant metrics and hyperbolic manifolds. The large number of papers on the topics covered by the book written since its appearance led Mathematical Reviews to create two new subsections “invariant metrics and pseudo-distances” and “hyperbolic complex manifolds” within the section “holomorphic mappings”. The invariant distance introduced in the first edition is now called the “Kobayashi distance”, and the hyperbolicity in the sense of this book is called the “Kobayashi hyperbolicity” to distinguish it from other hyperbolicities. This book continues to serve as the best introduction to hyperbolic complex analysis and geometry and is easily accessible to students since very little is assumed. The new edition adds comments on the most recent developments in the field.

  • Pages : 402 pages

Download or read book Function Spaces written by Krzysztof Jarosz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of contributions by the participants of the Fifth Conference on Function Spaces, held at Southern Illinois University in May of 2006. The papers cover a broad range of topics, including spaces and algebras of analytic functions of one and of many variables (and operators on such spaces), $L{p $-spaces, spaces of Banach-valued functions, isometries of function spaces, geometry of Banach spaces, and other related subjects. The goal of the conference was to bring together mathematicians interested in various problems related to function spaces and to facilitate the exchange of ideas between people working on similar problems. Hence, the majority of papers in this book are accessible to non-experts. Some articles contain expositions of known results and discuss open problems, others contain new results.

Book Physical Applications of Homogeneous Balls

Download or read book Physical Applications of Homogeneous Balls written by Yaakov Friedman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the mathematical challenges of modern physics lies in the development of new tools to efficiently describe different branches of physics within one mathematical framework. This text introduces precisely such a broad mathematical model, one that gives a clear geometric expression of the symmetry of physical laws and is entirely determined by that symmetry. The first three chapters discuss the occurrence of bounded symmetric domains (BSDs) or homogeneous balls and their algebraic structure in physics. The book further provides a discussion of how to obtain a triple algebraic structure associated to an arbitrary BSD; the relation between the geometry of the domain and the algebraic structure is explored as well. The last chapter contains a classification of BSDs revealing the connection between the classical and the exceptional domains. With its unifying approach to mathematics and physics, this work will be useful for researchers and graduate students interested in the many physical applications of bounded symmetric domains. It will also benefit a wider audience of mathematicians, physicists, and graduate students working in relativity, geometry, and Lie theory.
