This book was released on 1967 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, we construct the irreducible unitary representations of G with realizations somewhat different from those in Pukánszky (1964). We then obtain analytic continuations of these representations into certain domains of the complex plane. In one case (the principal series), our representations are uniformly bounded. In another case (the discrete series), they are uniformly bounded on bounded subsets of G.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal aim of this book is to give an introduction to harmonic analysis and the theory of unitary representations of Lie groups. The second edition has been brought up to date with a number of textual changes in each of the five chapters, a new appendix on Fatou's theorem has been added in connection with the limits of discrete series, and the bibliography has been tripled in length.

Book L p Harmonic Analysis on SL 2 mathbb R

Download or read book L p Harmonic Analysis on SL 2 mathbb R written by William H. Barker and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central result of this paper is a characterization of the image of [script]C[superscript italic]p([italic]G) under the operator-valued Fourier transform. The main thread through the paper is a careful analysis of the matrix coefficients for the discrete series and principal series of representations of [bold]SL (2, [bold]R). The paper is long, very technical and is not for the faint-hearted.

Book Representation Theory and Automorphic Forms

Download or read book Representation Theory and Automorphic Forms written by T. N. Bailey and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures from a course in the representation theory of semi- simple groups, automorphic forms, and the relations between them. The purpose is to help analysts make systematic use of Lie groups in work on harmonic analysis, differential equations, and mathematical physics; and to provide number theorists with the representation-theoretic input to Wiles's proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. Begins with an introductory treatment of structure theory and ends with the current status of functionality. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Representation Theory of Semisimple Groups

Download or read book Representation Theory of Semisimple Groups written by Anthony W. Knapp and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this classic work, Anthony W. Knapp offers a survey of representation theory of semisimple Lie groups in a way that reflects the spirit of the subject and corresponds to the natural learning process. This book is a model of exposition and an invaluable resource for both graduate students and researchers. Although theorems are always stated precisely, many illustrative examples or classes of examples are given. To support this unique approach, the author includes for the reader a useful 300-item bibliography and an extensive section of notes.

Book Cohomological Induction and Unitary Representations PMS 45 Volume 45

Download or read book Cohomological Induction and Unitary Representations PMS 45 Volume 45 written by Anthony W. Knapp and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 968 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a systematic treatment--the first in book form--of the development and use of cohomological induction to construct unitary representations. George Mackey introduced induction in 1950 as a real analysis construction for passing from a unitary representation of a closed subgroup of a locally compact group to a unitary representation of the whole group. Later a parallel construction using complex analysis and its associated co-homology theories grew up as a result of work by Borel, Weil, Harish-Chandra, Bott, Langlands, Kostant, and Schmid. Cohomological induction, introduced by Zuckerman, is an algebraic analog that is technically more manageable than the complex-analysis construction and leads to a large repertory of irreducible unitary representations of reductive Lie groups. The book, which is accessible to students beyond the first year of graduate school, will interest mathematicians and physicists who want to learn about and take advantage of the algebraic side of the representation theory of Lie groups. Cohomological Induction and Unitary Representations develops the necessary background in representation theory and includes an introductory chapter of motivation, a thorough treatment of the "translation principle," and four appendices on algebra and analysis.

Book Non Abelian Harmonic Analysis

Download or read book Non Abelian Harmonic Analysis written by Roger E. Howe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book mainly discusses the representation theory of the special linear group 8L(2, 1R), and some applications of this theory. In fact the emphasis is on the applications; the working title of the book while it was being writ ten was "Some Things You Can Do with 8L(2). " Some of the applications are outside representation theory, and some are to representation theory it self. The topics outside representation theory are mostly ones of substantial classical importance (Fourier analysis, Laplace equation, Huyghens' prin ciple, Ergodic theory), while the ones inside representation theory mostly concern themes that have been central to Harish-Chandra's development of harmonic analysis on semisimple groups (his restriction theorem, regularity theorem, character formulas, and asymptotic decay of matrix coefficients and temperedness). We hope this mix of topics appeals to nonspecialists in representation theory by illustrating (without an interminable prolegom ena) how representation theory can offer new perspectives on familiar topics and by offering some insight into some important themes in representation theory itself. Especially, we hope this book popularizes Harish-Chandra's restriction formula, which, besides being basic to his work, is simply a beautiful example of Fourier analysis on Euclidean space. We also hope representation theorists will enjoy seeing examples of how their subject can be used and will be stimulated by some of the viewpoints offered on representation-theoretic issues.

Book Categories and Representation Theory

Download or read book Categories and Representation Theory written by Hideto Asashiba and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a self-contained account of applications of category theory to the theory of representations of algebras. Its main focus is on 2-categorical techniques, including 2-categorical covering theory. The book has few prerequisites beyond linear algebra and elementary ring theory, but familiarity with the basics of representations of quivers and of category theory will be helpful. In addition to providing an introduction to category theory, the book develops useful tools such as quivers, adjoints, string diagrams, and tensor products over a small category; gives an exposition of new advances such as a 2-categorical generalization of Cohen-Montgomery duality in pseudo-actions of a group; and develops the moderation level of categories, first proposed by Levy, to avoid the set theoretic paradox in category theory. The book is accessible to advanced undergraduate and graduate students who would like to study the representation theory of algebras, and it contains many exercises. It can be used as the textbook for an introductory course on the category theoretic approach with an emphasis on 2-categories, and as a reference for researchers in algebra interested in derived equivalences and covering theory.
