Book excerpt: Static and oscillatory wind tunnel data are presented for a 10-percent-scale model of an F-16XL aircraft. Static data include the effect of angle of attack, sideslip angle, and control surface deflections on aerodynamic coefficients. Dynamic data from small-amplitude oscillatory tests are presented at nominal values of angle of attack between 20 and 60 degrees. Model oscillations were performed at five frequencies from 0.6 to 2.9 Hz and one amplitude of 5 degrees. A simple harmonic analysis of the oscillatory data provided Fourier coefficients associated with the in-phase and out-of-phase components of the aerodynamic coefficients. A strong dependence of the oscillatory data on frequency led to the development of models with unsteady terms in the form of indicial functions. Two models expressing the variation of the in-phase and out-of-phase components with angle of attack and frequency were proposed and their parameters estimated from measured data. Book Analysis of Wind Tunnel Lateral Oscillatory Data of the F 16xl Aircraft

Download or read book Analysis of Wind Tunnel Lateral Oscillatory Data of the F 16xl Aircraft written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Static and dynamic wind tunnel tests were performed on an 18% scale model of the F-16XL aircraft. These tests were performed over a wide range of angles of attack and sideslip with oscillation amplitudes from 5 deg. to 30 deg. and reduced frequencies from 0.073 to 0.269. Harmonic analysis was used to estimate Fourier coefficients and in-phase and out-of-phase components. For frequency dependent data from rolling oscillations, a two-step regression method was used to obtain unsteady models (indicial functions), and derivatives due to sideslip angle, roll rate and yaw rate from in-phase and out-of-phase components. Frequency dependence was found for angles of attack between 20 deg. and 50 deg. Reduced values of coefficient of determination and increased values of fit error were found for angles of attack between 35 deg. and 45 deg. An attempt to estimate model parameters from yaw oscillations failed, probably due to the low number of test cases at different frequencies. Book Recent Developments in Sliding Mode Control

Download or read book Recent Developments in Sliding Mode Control written by Andrzej Bartoszewicz and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-06-28 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of control engineering is to steer the regulated plant in such a way that it operates in a required manner. The desirable performance of the plant should be obtained despite the unpredictable influence of the environment on the control system and no matter if the plant parameters are precisely known. Even though the parameters may change with time and load, still the system should preserve its nominal properties and ensure the required behavior of the plant. In other words, the principal objective of control engineering is to design systems that are robust with respect to external disturbances and modeling uncertainty. This objective may be very well achieved using the sliding mode technique, which is the subject of this book.

Book Analysis of Wind Tunnel Oscillatory Data of the X 31a Aircraft

Download or read book Analysis of Wind Tunnel Oscillatory Data of the X 31a Aircraft written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-17 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnel oscillatory tests in pitch, roll, and yaw were performed on a 19%-scale model of the X-31A aircraft. These tests were used to study the aerodynamic characteristics of the X-31A in response to harmonic oscillations at six frequencies. In-phase and out-of-phase components of the aerodynamic coefficients were obtained over a range of angles of attack from 0 to 90 deg. To account for the effect of frequency on the data, mathematical models with unsteady terms were formulated by use of two different indicial functions. Data from a reduced set of frequencies were used to estimate model parameters, including steady-state static and dynamic stability derivatives. Both models showed good prediction capability and the ability to accurately fit the measured data. Estimated static stability derivatives compared well with those obtained from static wind tunnel tests. The roll and yaw rate derivative estimates were compared with rotary-balanced wind tunnel data and theoretical predictions. The estimates and theoretical predictions were in agreement at small angles of attack. The rotary-balance data showed, in general, acceptable agreement with the steady-state derivative estimates. Book Wind Tunnel flight Data Correlation u

Download or read book Wind Tunnel flight Data Correlation u written by James A. Behal and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A program was conducted to obtain data, both steady state and dynamic, from wind tunnel models and full scale flight tests of the RA-5C aircraft. Data were acquired on 0.228 and 0. 125 scale RA-5C inlet models and on a fully instrumented flight test RA-5C aircraft. Interim data reports presenting the data acquired during each test have been published. These data were utilized in this report to develop scaling techniques for correlating small scale model wind tunnel data with full scale flight data. Data presented include duct steady state operating characteristics and pressure distributions in the inlet and at the engine face. Dynamic data are presented in the form of engine face turbulence contour plots, radial turbulence distributions and selected spectral data functions. Data are presented for variations of angle of attack, angle of yaw, Reynolds number, ramp angle, secondary flow rates and inlet diverter width. Brief descriptions of the model and test methods are also presented.
