Book Analysis of Unsteady Thermal Boundary Layers

Download or read book Analysis of Unsteady Thermal Boundary Layers written by Roy W. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The velocity and temperature distribution in an unsteady thermal boundary layer is analyzed by an approximate integral method. The case of a flat plate in a free stream having small harmonic velocity oscillations about a steady mean value is treated in detail. The resulting velocity profiles agree with the available experimental data. These profiles are used to predict the thermal convection when the plate and the stream are at constant but different temperature levels. The flow oscillations cause harmonic temperature oscillations plus a small steady feedback effect which reduces the mean heat transfer to the plate. The amount of decrease is represented by a single coefficient, which is presented graphically.

Book Elementary Heat Transfer Analysis

Download or read book Elementary Heat Transfer Analysis written by Stephen Whitaker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Heat Transfer Analysis provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the nature of transient heat conduction. This book presents a thorough understanding of the thermal energy equation and its application to boundary layer flows and confined and unconfined turbulent flows. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of the use of heat transfer coefficients in formulating the flux condition at phase interface. This text then explains the specification as well as application of flux boundary conditions. Other chapters consider a derivation of the transient heat conduction equation. This book discusses as well the convective energy transport based on the understanding and application of the thermal energy equation. The final chapter deals with the study of the processes of heat transfer during boiling and condensation. This book is a valuable resource for Junior or Senior engineering students who are in an introductory course in heat transfer.

Book The Effects of Unsteady Potential Flow on Heated Laminar Boundary Layers in Water

Download or read book The Effects of Unsteady Potential Flow on Heated Laminar Boundary Layers in Water written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of unsteadiness and the stability of boundary-layer flows as governed by the Orr-Sommerfeld equation are discussed. The condition required for validity of the quasisteady approximation of governing flow equations is that the ratio of diffusion time to flow time should be small. It is also shown that criteria for validity of the quasi- steady approximation of the Orr-Sommerfeld equation are based on modifications of this ratio, and are not nearly as stringent. Examples of heated wedge flows in water that are presented and discussed show the profound effect of even slowly varying unsteadiness on both laminar boundary-layer flow and its stability. (Author).

Book Study of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book Study of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Angel Nicolas Menendez and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A turbulent boundary layer, subjected to a free-stream velocity which changes sinusiodally in time under a zero time mean pressure gradient, is studied both experimentally and analytically. Using a two-component Laser Doppler Anemometer and a Heat Flux Gage, detailed and high quality information is obtained on the instantaneous velocity distribution and wall shear stress, respectively, at various stations. An asymptotic theory, for large Reynolds numbers, is developed for the oscillatory motion. It is valid for both boundary layers at arbitrary time-mean pressure gradients and fully developed pipe and channel flow, and is successfully applied to the present and previous available experimental information. The theory identifies two frequency parameters, in terms of which four different frequency regimes are defined. Similarity laws are identified for each one of these frequency regimes. All the experimental data have been archived on magnetic tape. (Author).

Book Approximate Analysis of Heat Transfer in Transpired Boundary Layers at Limiting Prandtl Numbers

Download or read book Approximate Analysis of Heat Transfer in Transpired Boundary Layers at Limiting Prandtl Numbers written by Tse-Fou Zien and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple procedure is developed for approximate calculations of wall heat-transfer rates in transpired boundary layers. Applications of this procedure are illustrated by various examples of incompressible, laminar flows in the limits of large and small Prandtl numbers. A distinguished limit of large Prandtl number and small mass-transfer rate is easily identified, and some limiting solutions are presented for the porous-plate configuration. Calculations for the cases with small Prandtl numbers explicitly demonstrate the usefulness of the method in studying transient heat-conduction problems. The remarkable combination of accuracy and simplicity represents the principal merit of the method. (Author).

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.
