Book Analysis of Type 316 Stainless Steel Behavior Under Fatigue

Download or read book Analysis of Type 316 Stainless Steel Behavior Under Fatigue written by R. Gomuc and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A phenomenological approach, already used for other materials, is applied for the prediction of the behavior of 316 stainless steel under fatigue, creep, or combined fatigue-creep loadings. The approach is based on the reduction of either the fatigue limit or the creep strength due to damage accumulation. For multilevel loading, an interaction parameter is introduced to account for the interaction effect between two different loading levels. Some particular aspects concerning the application of the procedure are discussed and the life predictions are compared wit those obtained by other techniques. The essential characteristic of the proposed approach is to provide a reasonably good prediction of life for the material subjected to the prescribed loadings using material constants which are determined through minimal experimental data.

Book High cycle Fatigue Behavior of Type 316 Stainless Steel at 593 C

Download or read book High cycle Fatigue Behavior of Type 316 Stainless Steel at 593 C written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The available low- and high-cycle fatigue data on Type 316 stainless steel at 593 to 600°C have been combined and analyzed to provide a preliminary strain-life correlation. This correlation was then reduced by the appropriate safety factors to a design curve and compared with the ASME T-1420-1B curve. The comparison indicates that significant increases in allowable fatigue cycles should be realized when the present study is concluded.

Book Introduction to Computational Plasticity

Download or read book Introduction to Computational Plasticity written by Fionn Dunne and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-06-09 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an introduction to computational plasticity and includes the kinematics of large deformations, together with relevant continuum mechanics. Central to the book is its focus on computational plasticity, and we cover an introduction to the finite element method which includes both quasi-static and dynamic problems. We then go on to describe explicit and implicit implementations of plasticity models in to finite element software. Throughout the book, we describe thegeneral, multiaxial form of the theory but uniquely, wherever possible, reduce the equations to their simplest, uniaxial form to develop understanding of the general theory and, we hope, physical insight. We provide several examples of implicit and explicit implementations of von Mises time-independentand visco-plasticity in to the commercial code ABAQUS (including the fortran coding), which should prove invaluable to research students and practising engineers developing ABAQUS 'UMATs'. The book bridges the gap between undergraduate material on plasticity and existing advanced texts on nonlinear computational mechanics, which makes it ideal for students and practising engineers alike. It introduces a range of engineering applications, including superplasticity, porous plasticity, cyclicplasticity and thermo-mechanical fatigue, to emphasize the subject's relevance and importance.

Book Creep and Ageing Interactions in Biaxial Fatigue of Type 316 Stainless Steel

Download or read book Creep and Ageing Interactions in Biaxial Fatigue of Type 316 Stainless Steel written by FA. Kandil and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high-strain, biaxial (tension/torsion) fatigue study has been conducted on Type 316 stainless steel at 550°C. The tests were under strain control, some with dwell periods up to 10 min at the positive strain peaks. The deformation and fracture behavior under these conditions revealed a strengthening effect due to the fast carbide precipitation which extended life in some cases. Also it is shown that the form of the multiaxial fatigue failure criterion, modes, and directions of cracking were functions of hold time. The multiaxial cyclic stress-strain curve is best described in terms of shear stress and strain components on the maximum shear plane for a given hold time.

Book Mapping of Low Cycle Fatigue Mechanisms at Elevated Temperatures for an Austenitic Stainless Steel

Download or read book Mapping of Low Cycle Fatigue Mechanisms at Elevated Temperatures for an Austenitic Stainless Steel written by K. Kanazawa and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping of low cycle fatigue mechanisms at elevated temperatures is attempted for a better understanding of the elevated temperature, low cycle fatigue behavior of an austenitic stainless steel. Results of strain-controlled, uniaxial low cycle fatigue tests on a solution-treated Type 310 stainless steel were used in the analysis. The experiments were performed at 15 temperatures that ranged from room temperature to 800°C and under four strain rate conditions that ranged from 6.7 x 10-3 s-1 to 6.7 x 10-6 s-1. Modes of variation, both in stress amplitude and in fatigue life, are classified and plotted against temperature-strain rate coordinates. By superposing the two maps, one can easily find the principal factors that govern the fatigue life for any given conditions of temperature and strain rate. The proposed idea of mapping is believed to have wide applicability (e.g., for selecting materials and predicting fatigue behavior under service conditions).

Book Fatigue and Durability of Metals at High Temperatures

Download or read book Fatigue and Durability of Metals at High Temperatures written by S. S. Manson and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2009 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From concept to application, this book describes the method of strain-range partitioning for analyzing time-dependent fatigue. Creep (time-dependent) deformation is first introduced for monotonic and cyclic loading. Multiple chapters then discuss strain-range partitioning in details for multi-axial loading conditions and how different loading permutations can lead to different micro-mechanistic effects. Notably, the total-strain method of strain-range partitioning (SRP) is described, which is a methodology that sees use in several industries. Examples from aerospace illustrate applications, and methods for predicting time-dependent metal fatigue are critiqued.

Book Behavior of Materials Under Conditions of Thermal Stress

Download or read book Behavior of Materials Under Conditions of Thermal Stress written by S. S. Manson and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review is presented of available information on the behavior of brittle and ductile materials under conditions of thermal stress and thermal shock. For brittle materials, a simple formula relating physical properties to thermal-shock resistance are derived and used to determine the relative significance of two indices currently in use for rating materials. The importance of simulating operating conditions in thermal-shock testing is deduced from the formula and is experimentally illustrated by showing that BeO could be both inferior or superior to Al2O3 in thermal shock depending on the testing conditions. For ductile materials, thermal-shock resistance depends upon the complex interrelation among several metallurgical variables which seriously affect strength and ductility. These variables are briefly discussed and illustrated from literature sources. The importance of simulating operating conditions in tests for rating ductile materials is especially to be emphasized because of the importance of testing conditions in metallurgy. A number of practical methods that have been used to minimize the deleterious effects of thermal stress and thermal shock are outlined.
